FLACs would be interesting to listen to but definitely useful for editing purposes. I quite enjoy stringing songs together to form a coherent theme (just like how video games are in the first place only with visuals along with audio), and without initial OCR FLACs the final output would either be 1) even more compressed MP3 or 2) (needlessly large) FLACs from the already-available MP3s. Also, with keeping everything at such low quality it seems as if OCR is catering to options that bring in the widest variety of population, when the core of the site's submission process is to not be a popularity contest. Sure bandwidth problems exist, but as soon as they don't exist (just one example) there's no reason to hold back, because overall it would be an influential step to making people more aware of the medium.

I made a megamix of relaxing OCRemixes/VGMixes ---> Aural Pulchritude / (flac) .................................................................................[170MB.............../..448MB] ^tracklisting. I've gotten a compliment on it via PM for exactly the purpose the original poster wants. Personally I wouldn't be able to focus on studying with this type of music. (Energetic or even meaningless music like gangster rap actually does a better job of that.) But the guy via PM didn't seem to have a problem so try it out. Right now I'm enjoying djp's Chinatown(BadSushi), which appears to be a really underrated mix. I wouldn't mind listening to it forever from a relaxing standpoint. (If anyone is interested in sending me lossless audio files for their remixes, I'd be willing to have them for these editing purposes. [Which is at least one reason why having FLACs would be useful.]) Guess I'll make a list for individual song purposes below. I know someone who recently made the same switch for time reasons. http://www.onemanga.com/ Of course, like I've already mentioned, I can most recommend One Piece, the long-runningly most popular manga in Japan (for good reason, and not just because it's in Jump). I heard Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a classic in terms of ingenuity, too (comparatively with OP). Oh yeah, and I should probably start Hajime no Ippo (an already-mentioned popular boxing series) since the anime just stops (though it seems to initially spark people's interest in the manga). All three of these are pretty similar(ly interesting). I overall prefer anime 'cuz of music, but this site is refreshing to know about. Click on chapter pages' images to bring up subsequent pages.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=iFTwKC5Ernc 1:08's melody could soooo be expanded upon. And the rest of the song.

This soundtrack needs more love. It's one of the greatest game soundtracks because of how well the themes fit with the game's atmosphere. (I really recommend the game to those who liked Secret of Evermore and other games with naturally-fitting audio and video.) I'm quite fond of the other themes from this game, so I only don't really enjoy this because I like the game's other source tunes way more. Plus the genre is a little weird, though I do like the dulcimer beginning stuff. The opening synth stuff is very Reason-ish, which I'm not sure I can sit back and enjoy fully. The first time the melody comes in, it's quite good because of the nuances behind it. Overall I think the mix is too synthy for me. Maybe I need to listen on awesome speakers; but this would only enhance what I think would be better with more variety in instrumentation.

I liked some of the EQ in the first WIP compared to this one. I think it might have something to do with the EQ cutoffs you mentioned. With how limited the samples are, in sound depth, in both WIPs, I don't think any closure/smoothening/cutting-off of EQ fits the genre it's trying to be. As such, it's hard to tell which parts are better than the first WIP, because the entire EQ sounds like a downgrade. I'm sure comparison between the two WIPs would get much clearer if the EQ was more open/big instead of closed/cut off/muffled. One thing's for sure is the whistle thing by itself drones on with no real accompaniment, because it's so completely by itself, making for a separation of genres rather than a fusion of them, losing the main genre's momentum. Pitch bends near end are nice. Overall the closest this style gets to is Protricity's, but you probably know that.

Nice fast melodic rhythms. I'd probably screw up the pitches to sound too colorful harmonically, which isn't the case here, so it sounds good 'n' theory-like. People are mentioning countermelodies but I seem to like counter-rhythms, if that's even a proper term, and think more stuff rhythmically could be done to enhance the first 1/4 of this, like [0:22-0:30]-ish (which repeats near the end). 0:12-0:18's lead might be too plain, rhythmically; I can't tell. Though the backing rhythm is certainly appealing. Also some obvious 32nds/more rhythmic density would be cool around 1:29-1:30. 0:42-1:12 sounds smooth n groovy. (Not that other parts are particularly problematic). It's all a very fitting arrangement, but stylistically it needs better samples to fit into any real genre of sorts, really, rather than worrying about EQ too much. If better samples aren't possible, no matter; I, at least, can just use some imagination. Might help to have some effects in the background, created by a soundscape of more sophisticated samples, to fill in the gaps in people's listening ears, since this kind of action, when geared to be produced to the max (which may not be the case here), generally leaves many frequency ranges screaming to be fulfilled. A problem with doing so might be it could become too muddy unless you're a production master (hyperbole).

I loved the big computer with the mean face at the end of Crysis. Probably the funniest thing out of all of them, for some reason.

I was skeptical with the first few, simple tracks, but my psycho-crazy side (to exaggerate) has been fulfilled by the later tracks. Wow wtf the last track just came on.

So far I've seen one mention of Monster here, and only in a list. It doesn't have any of the anti-artistic features typically associated with anime, ever, at all. Zero. The story is very deep, making the series sort of drawn-out, spanning 60-some odd episodes. But that just adds to the irregularity of the show among other anime, in a good way. http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=1539 (amazing site, btw). As for music, One Piece has an amazing soundtrack. PM me if interested in a mixtape I made of it, with songs most impactful (outside of the show, even [many of them just sound really, really pleasant]). It's also my favorite show...until recently (~250-current [342]), where they made the art/animation really low-quality by comparison to the old days of even sometimes pristine beauty. (It helped that when viewing the first half of the series, I didn't even know about manga/filler, which was an incredibly awesome ignorance I wish I still had.) Some people just really can't stomach the art (love-it-or-hate-it) or a couple of other initially unpleasant premises*, which is a shame since it brings together complex strings of events, both emotionally and uniquely, and dare I say timelessly. Seriously, all of the main stories are amazingly fresh, if not solely in their detail, and the author has an amazing sense of humor and personality. I supremely recommend watching episodes 1-130. I watched them in 5 days, two of which days were 9 hour work days (6 hours of sleep lol). You can skip most of the filler by following this guide of episodes. I like the fusion of the show and its music so much that I singlehandedly started something wacky and crazy back when I was in baby college (community college aka waste of time if you're planning on a university). A list of all the music cues, up until episode 229. *Typically, I hate every anime I start watching, because of presentation, but I still watch past the first few episodes. For an artistic anime out of this world (in many senses), check out Gankutsuou. The story might appear amazing, but I didn't really care even if it was amazing; I was too busy chillin' and enjoying the expression of such an artform. Generally if I see praise from someone regarding an anime, who likes other shows I like, and then look on anidb to see that it has overall ratings of ~8.0 or higher, then I pretty much immediately bookmark the corresponding page. Thus, I shall provide a list of shows I enjoy the most!!! Samurai Champloo, Mushishi, Death Note, Cowboy Bebop (for old-time's sake), GTO. Gurren = overrated, and if not, then it takes an amazingly long time (read: the entire show) to reach a point where everything makes sense, along the way tricking the viewer into thinking that substance is being ignored in order to give cheap thrills. At least the animation is enjoyable. I thought basic inguinity was lacking, however, even after all the wild technicalities are grinded down. Thanks to i-n-j-i-n, I think it was, I have a decent amount of new bookmarks.

http://www.escaprism.org/audity/Polpota5.mp3 remix. need to flesh out/give bass or smth, and likely do some rhythm work with the percussion section, and extend it perhaps (or perhaps reiterate it later then extend it, audity style). there's something about it that makes me want to scrap the whole thing, though, or most of it. i think i need more of a catch. original. it inspired me by how it builds up to that high at 0:50 and then drops right back down the next second in an awesome fashion.

IGN Declares Blu-Ray Winner of The Format War

why not WHAT THE HELL WHERE DID THIS IMAGE COME FROM -
More substance would be killer. Even during something like when the lead comes in, there should be other effects going on. Filling up all the frequency ranges with powerful stuff is a must in songs like this.

OJI WROTE "(I'll never judge on anything but headphones.)" I hate Protricity's Battletoads remix on headphones. It's one of my favorite songs in the car, on an objective level, even. The percussion sounds completely different. I guess that still doesn't justify not using headphones to distinguish between equalization levels, unless you have a really good audio setup in some room. Actually, I thought listening like that with great monitors was the way to go, if you want to be professional about judging nonprofessional game remixes.

pixietricks - Dreaming Still (Nicole's Azure Strings Mix)
Audity replied to Nicole Adams's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
The whole song's a bit loud. I mistake the vinyl for clipping. Does it last throughout the whole song? Despite this and my opinion that this song is overdone, it still sounds enjoyable, possibly from how decently crisp it sounds, and actually even from how it doesn't focus too much on the melodies, and overall has a solid arrangement behind it. I liked the jazzy section. Reminded me of JJT's FF6 mix. I'm sure the singing won't be too bad, but I'm not really a fan of any singing when comparing it to an instrumental version. Having two versions would be cool for anyone with a similar opinion. -
I think it all sounds good, even still, but maybe because it's all only the beginning, and if I want to fulfill my idea of a megamix, I think a decent amount of buildup is necessary. (I can always submit shortened individual versions to OCR.) I remember looking at the judging forum yesterday (I rarely look), looking at only one NO thread and lo and behold, I saw Darkesword saying, "Don't use pads for a melody[/progression]". But I figured maybe it's alright to do it, because I have plans to eventually replace those pad sounds with more attack-oriented samples. Thanks for noticing, though! I tried adding more attack to the ones already there, but it didn't sound right. (Using them in the first place was an accident, actually: "*goes through sample sets from the wrong sample set due to boredom; pads appear* ...omg this sounds awesome".) Multiple times, I was thinking of adding a little bit of music-like substance to the opening, to make it more SoE-like at the very least (more interesting, musically, too). Also, I forgot to extend the ominous long-note that briefly appears. Ah, yeah, the opening loud sound effects aren't really supposed to act as a transition tool in the traditional sense, and perhaps I should even have more time between them, but I thought it sounded good anyway while not lasting too long. Dunno when I'll ever finish it. Could take a year if I spend my time learning more about remixing solely for this piece.

hey thanks for replying to my WIP thread. IN RETURN: HEY this has a harp and strings and stuff, too. It's pleasant. I am sort of familiar with the game's soundtrack due to my friend's semi-obsession with it, but I can't say I recall the original. It would be cool to hear it again. Anyway... I got some criticism from someone regarding the dissonant chords in my terranigma thing. I know it's really tempting to try to break the mold a little, but without style surrounding the dissonant notes, they just sound like wrong notes. After hearing them (near the beginning, and 0:53) a couple times, then going back to the song, I can sorta' see the note. ...But for first time listeners it might be awkward. (Basically, style is key.) Or perhaps I'm in too much of a critiquing mood. Definitely has a lot more texture than my WIP! (That ending song is a killer of ideas.)

http://www.escaprism.org/audity/sOe.mp3 For years at attempting to remix many songs, and create originals of my own, I finally plan on creating a long mix of all the best songs in Secret of Evermore. First segment - My take on the beginning events of the game. Sounds like a woman breathing, but it could also be a boy if you think hard enough. Unfortunately, I can't find ANY 'electricity' samples to mimic the dog chewing the wires; perhaps I don't need it. Maybe there's something more I could do here. Introduction/Credits - Not sure what I'll do with the rest. Maybe I'll break into a trance (or be Xenosphere-esque), but I tend to play by what instruments sound good, and currently I have a lot of great sounding stuff/ideas, IMO, and feel collected about this whole thing. I think this mix will be my life's purpose. Intro/Credits will transition into the 2nd half of Queen Bluegarden, aka RLY GOOD IDEA. Boss theme - Primal style Pyramid - Fucking awesome jammin' style. Fields of Gothica - Short but sweet piece I could probably fit in somewhere. Flying - Oh this would go well near Gothica!! Ebon Keep - Castle - This song is so mellow I must arrange it somehow. Final Boss - Invader Zim style. May not remix but are decent songs: Collosia Chamber 1 - People have already arranged this. Ivor Tower - The Town - Shnab have already begun to move.

http://www.escaprism.org/audity/End%20Enigma.mp3 It barely resembles the original, but if I add more to it, it might turn into something of a remix.

Bed of Knives - Ethnic/Prog. Breaks by Hy Bound
Audity replied to Hy Bound's topic in Post Your Original Music!
I've heard a decent amount of this kind of music in the not too distant past (artist: Ott), so I was a little skeptical. But it's grown on me a bit, and has a bit more innovation even, than Ott. Main thing I wish for is more 'new' material in the last quarter of the song, which would make this epic beyond all imagination. -
http://www.escaprism.org/audity/Audity_-_Wavetrance.mp3 Reason 4.0. Mini-song/WIP using just two samples, new to 4.0. (And a ton of reverb n equalization and compression and stereo imaging, which I've never implemented well until now, IMFO.)
