  1. I like the arrangement it's simply yet evocative. The sound quality is not crazy good. But really good solo piano performances either involve really expensive microphones or really expensive samples. Some feedback to maybe improve on the track. Focus on dynamics and subtle tempo changes. Use them to help enhance the emotional response of the track. Here's a perfect example: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01159/ or
  2. Nice article Brian! With the advent of technology it has drastically changed expectations. Expectations of composers and clients. Clients now expect something quicker and fully realized sooner. Composers now have different expectations of their music entirely as well. In my mind alot of music creation is about operating within limits. It can be a very restrictive process. (chords, melody, key signature, mixing/mastering) Learning how to creatively work within these restrictions is key to writing music. With modern day technology people aren't learning to operate within restrictions as much as they used too. Plus their are so many people getting in to making music that the perceived quality across has maybe dipped. Nothing wrong with that though, everyone has to start somewhere. Alot of avant garde (academic/modern) music is created in the complete opposite state of mind. Where they want to have no restrictions. Their results are VERY different than more structured music. Alot of this is using technology to "experiment" with sound.
  3. Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (on the unsatisfying front) Between the game and the new graphics card I spent about $400 in order to play this game. That initial entry cost along with reviews/expectations made it almost impossible to enjoy this game. Come to find out I personally just do not like the faceless/emotionless characters in some american RPG's. Also add just about any MMORPG to the list for me too. (looking at you FFXI !!!)
  4. Layering will probably be easier for you at this point than getting into too much EQ and Compression. Here's a good tutorial to start off with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC5Wev0OyJ4&feature=player_embedded Zircon is right about the sound choice. Try 2 basses, a high and low. Put some distortion on the high bass. It should help fill things out. (as Snappleman said slight distortion can do wonders for a bass)
  5. Some of what Rozo's complaints are could easily be eliminated. 1. Cut out the whole first minute. It's uber basic and repetitive and doesn't really add anything meaningful to the song. 2. Two versions of the main riff would go a long way to improving this track. Use the basic calmer/serene one you have now in breakdown or intro/outtro sections. Make an edgier version of the motif to use in the chorus or the more upbeat sections. This would help really boost the energy levels of the track. Don't mean to sound harsh but the calm/serene portion of the melody just does not go with the type of song that is trying to be produced at all. The juxtaposition of the two is a nice idea but doesn't come through right. You have some really stellar tracks on your sound cloud. Def sure you can beef this one up and get everything you want out of it.
  6. HOLY POOP! NICE WORK Are you the first OC ReMixer to publish a book?
  7. Bitwig is not the same company as Ableton. Howeverm Bitwig was started by a couple of people who use to work as developers for Ableton. Hence that is why there are so many similarities between the software. No one has been invited for the beta testing btw. (I;m another one who is anxiously waiting)
  8. I was one of the patch designers on that and most of the refills on NSL. Very good stuff. Jeremy is a great guy and very particular and dedicated to quality control!
  9. Hahaha nice one More Info: http://www.propellerheads.se/press/index.cfm?fuseaction=get_press_release&prID=121
  10. Pretty friggin awesome! U-he, Korg, Softube, Sonic Charge, Peff, etc... CAN'T WAIT! Using a device from Korg to send CV to a U-He device will be awesome.

  15. Just bc alot of people on 1 site use a particular program does not make it the best for a singular purpose. It sounds like you are not enjoying the process of bouncing between two programs. If that is the case you should def look for another solution. Maybe look at FXPansion Geist or a drum/looping based plugin. You are using Cubase SX and not one of the newer versions correct? Here are two things in Cubase that could massively improve your workflow: Drum Tracks: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/oct03/articles/cubasenotes.htm Folder Tracks: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may05/articles/cubasenotes.htm In Cubase I'll use Folder Tracks that contain tons of Audio tracks. I'll arrange and sequence my drums on the audio tracks themselves. This makes it SO EASY to apply reversing and pitch shifting right in the arrange view.
  16. I agree on all accounts with WillRock Some of the panning fixes: Leads panned almost dead center. Kick panned dead center. (have the kick in mono if you can) You should have a short reverb and a long reverb on Aux Sends. Feed your sounds to those sends. That will help you out tremendously for the stereo field. Production: Just get an entirely new kick sample Actually just get all new percussion samples (Go here and download the free samples in the "sticky" posts: http://www.thethrillseekers.co.uk/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=6) What DAW are you using? I'd be willing to do a quick rerouting of channels to help you with Aux Sends to give you something easier to work with production wise. Trust me once you get all of this it is pretty damn easy. EDIT: Looks like you use FL. I have it too. If you wanna take me up on the offer just PM or email me the source file. sonic.elements@gmail.com Great arrangement btw, good creative decisions!
  17. that sucks Nigel Simmons looks like a respectable dude from his website, so this outcome isn't unexpected. Like Bahamut I really enjoyed the "collection" of songs off of Aether.
