  1. Here's a Subtractor Lead: http://www.sonic-elements.com/Dogged%20Lead.zyp
  2. This is def no Oscillator Sync. The Triangle Osc on the MiniMoog has a bit more harmonics than a normal Triangle Osc. Listening to some Osc examples from the minimoog it is def the Triangle/Saw wave: The filter is def sweeping over and hitting the vocal formants. That is what gives it it's unique character. This can be done with any of the filter types. This is a simple lead. Keep it simple and don't over bake it.
  3. Cool, thanks for your comments. Out of those Anime listed I didn't like Code Geass that much. It's plot holes were MASSIVE and I agree with your premise on the characters. Nevertheless I did watch the whole thing bc it was entertaining despite its obvious short comings. In regards to some of the other anime maybe you just can't relate to certain aspects. I found Elfen Leid extremely thought provoking. I can relate to some of the more extreme things that happen in the show. As I or people I am close have experienced similar trauma. For example it is pretty reasonable why Spike in Cowboy Bebop could come off as "emotionless" given his personal history. Going through something traumatic and tragic will do that to a person. Like any movie, game, anime etc... if you can't relate to the characters or find them annoying then you'll have a hard time enjoying or garnering something memorable from the experience.
  4. My first impression of reading this -> OH GOOD GOD! (shakes head in shock and dissapointment) Second impression -> still the same Third impression -> your opinion must be derived from that you probably extremely dislike any entertainment that can be considered tragic or overly serious/sad (which is cool that is your opinion) Fourth impression -> still shocked someone could dislike all of those, or keep watching those types of anime without realizing they will never like anime like that
  5. Happy bday dude! Quick someone make a kick ass birthday celebration video.
  6. Ok Meteo, listened to the examples. Two big things jump out to me: 1. Transitions, or lack there of (in your tracks it just feels like, oh hey there is a new sound in here; and oh yeah this sound was just dropped. It makes the adding/subtracting of sounds and parts feel jarring) Some good tutorials w/ audio examples: http://audio.tutsplus.com/tutorials/arrangement/arrangement-tips-and-tricks-fills-and-transitions/ http://audio.tutsplus.com/tutorials/arrangement/arrangement-tips-and-tricks-part-2-automation/?search_index=10 2. The sounds themselves, mainly the realistic instruments sound a little too robotic. This makes them stick out in a bad way. (that added to the lack of transitions makes your example songs focus the listeners attention in an area that is strong) Some quick tutorials on improving the composition and feel of natural instruments: http://audio.tutsplus.com/tutorials/production/how-to-achieve-realistic-spatial-imaging-in-cubase-using-kontakt/?search_index=12 http://audio.tutsplus.com/tutorials/production/quick-tip-getting-realism-in-orchestral-music/?search_index=16 http://audio.tutsplus.com/tutorials/mixing-mastering/an-introduction-to-3d-mixing/ Also anything by this dude: http://audio.tutsplus.com/author/george-strezov/ I hope those help a little bit. There isn't just one trick to solve your problem. It is a multitude of smaller problems adding up to create a larger glaring one.
  7. Can you post a good and bad example of what you are referring to? Otherwise it can be a little difficult to "hear" where you are coming from. COMPOSITION: Velocity, Timing, ModWheel, Automation (all little varients) MIXING: Grouping (also correctly grouping elements to "glue" them together) That is what I have found works.
  8. Hot damn Alex! This is f'n sweet. Will be listening all day at work. Thanks.
  9. Hey kick sounds much better! A lot of the synths seem to be overly bright. Might just be my headphones at work. I think where the track needs the most work is the pacing. A lot of the ideas are good. The arrangement and changes in levels of energy need to be improved. This can be helped by choosing where to use certain sections. It's all about drawing in the listener and keeping them interested over the entire length of the track.
  10. Before you start whining about people not commenting on your thread, why don't you go and comment on others? I mean seriously... Regardless you do have a point about people commenting more on popular tunes. Cool intro. The hard panned bloopy chip-tune sound gets olds really quick. Try keeping the lead panned dead center and then pan the supporting elements left and right. While a lot of the sound individually are cool and match the feel of the source. There are just way too many distorted sounds. If you want one of the cool distorted sounds to stand out use less of them. Right now they are all just blending together into one audio collage. The wicked long fake outtro doesn't really work. Not a bad idea if done on a quicker scale: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01461/ Everything after the fake outtro doesn't really seem to add to the song any way. Just lots of crazy bleeps n bloops.
  11. Holy poop Brian! This sounds awesome. Love the intro harp.
  12. Hey dude been listening to these. Really like them! Love the playful character of some of the tracks.
  13. Quick question...did the idea for the kickstarter fundraising stem from trying to find a way to pay for the exuberant costs of printing and shipping physical copies of albums? In my experience on and leading albums this was a major PITA. It also posed a financial risk for those forking out the initial investment in making physical copies. If that's true then the kickstarter project then is an easy way to cover these costs up front without forcing anyone involved with the site or community to fork out their money and "hope" to be reimbursed later. _______ Glad to see the breakdown of the costs. Was hoping the majority wasn't going to studio time or session musicians. While I can understand the want for supreme quality on tracks; this part seemed to irk me a little bit. Mainly because there are several talented people on OCR who do actually have some mastering and studio session experience. Still digesting it personally. Best of luck with the project. Looks like the artist roster has a really nice blend of styles.
  14. Kick is still terrible. It is completely lost in the mix. EQ out with a parametric EQ everything around 800Hz on the kick. It will help the track breathe considerably. The Open Hat is way too loud and unpleasant in the high frequencies. No way a hat should ever over shadow a good sounding synth part. I believe a lot of the issues in the song relate to mixing. The levels are off all over the place. Try starting off with this basic 2 part tutorial: (should provide a nice reference point) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYzUkjKCTks&feature=plcp
  15. The intro is def the best part. The hi-ptiched has got to go. It is piercing through the soundscape in a bad way. The type of lead from this track would work: The main sections of the track feel a little helter skelter. There is too much going on and each part does not play off of each other. Nor do they really support each other to create the sense of a greater whole. The sum of parts is always greater than any individual part.
