lol, when I became the super mario 64 project leader, I had no remixes on ocr, and I wasn't a judge. I was just a project whore, I joined every project under the sun and so the kind of people who like to join projects knew who I was.

Your best bet is to find a well known remixer who loves the game you want to remix who'll be willing to co-run it with you. Really though, even very popular mixers have a hard time getting people together for a project on occasion. Never expect an easy or short task, it won't be.

OCR01861 - *YES* Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 'Sacred Flute'
Fishy replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
This arrangement is really quite nice everything fits together smoothly. Lots of different elements around, I don't think I heard a single instrument group not represented in some way. The introduction in particular worked really well. Production is obviously where the issues are. Some of the sounds were drastically worse then others in terms of quality. The flutes obviously being great, stuff like the bass was almost MIDI quality. As Vinnie noted, I know a lot of the samples aren't great, but that feels masked somehow, which confuses me. Everything feels dry, so nothing should be hiding it, it just gives the impression that it works together. Most of the production issues are small but permeate the whole mix, however they didn't make the mix less enjoyable to listen to particularly. I guess the only major issue I had was the very loud strings AnSo mentioned which hes already gone conditional on. I'm going to go boredline YES, and then fixing that for AnSo would seal the deal. I can't wait to hear more from you once your production is spotless. YES -
OCR01825 - *YES* Cave Story 'Polar Star Overdrive' *RESUB*
Fishy replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
This is some hard rockin' right here. Great arrangement, no complaints there. The mix is full, but at times its hard to tell whats going on. I'm also not too fond of the overly-square synth lead. The drums were generally okay, even if the snare was a bit high and hollow. Haha, some orchestral hits at 1:04, haven't heard those in ages. Nice. Whilst the mixing could obviously be a little cleaner whilst retaining the huge energy, obviously the lost project file kinda stops this, but its no deal breaker. Arrangement was a no-brainer even with the short length. I never heard the original sub but this is a comfortable pass imo. Nice to see more Cave Story. YES -
Uh... You can't just sell remixes, you're using someone else's compositions. Also if you're charging for an end product it is unreasonable to ask for help without paying the people who help you. You seem to have the impression that someone will be happy to do pretty much all the work for you to send your friend a present. Oh, and if I were them, I'd be a lot more impressed if you learnt to do it. A friend of mine spent a year secretly learning guitar so that he could play his gf's favourite song to her and propose. Thats the real deal. By the sound of it its not like you don't have time to learn.

OCRA-0011 - Doom II: Delta-Q-Delta
Fishy replied to The Orichalcon's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
This is pretty awesome. I loved how some of the tracks meld together so well. I was on track 5 before I realized I had been listening to more then one song, which is impressive. Everything sounds pretty groovy so far. The whole point of OCR is to honor VG composers and the work that they put into their craft, not metal bands. Its not BS at all. You don't see any Tony Hawks projects around here. -
If you wait to submit it, it'll just be further back in the queue. If its done, you may as well sub it now.

Core 2 Duo T5550 1.83GHz...passable?
Fishy replied to Vanzetti Was Framed's topic in Music Composition & Production
1.8s not bad, but it depends on how good the multi-core support of the DAW is as to whether or not it will make a difference aswell. I have a 2.4Ghz duel that has yet to fail me under relatively heavy conditions. 1.8 is probably fine as long as you're not using several instances of cpu heavy plugins. -
This blues is sweet, but its a little funny that people think OCR support makes you more likely to win the grand prize. Imo its that the ocr environment produces good musicians and encourages improvement lots. Maybe 20 people if that vote from ocr. Anywoo, I'd probably have voted your band over a lot of artists anyway, its not bad at all .

Its zircon and pixie, this was never going to be bad even if it was made in 48 hours. I'm sure blind was very happy to hear this . Also, the key changes in this are sick. I'm gonna have to check this source out myself.

I agree with this message, especially when you compare them to stuff released at the same time.

OCR01817 - *YES* Tales of Phantasia 'Just Go'
Fishy replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
http://nutritiousmultimedia.googlepages.com/NutritiousFishy-JustGo-Resub.mp3 Nut's been working on this for a few days now after I relayed some of the feedback. Sounding a lot better imo. -
Things started okay, but it becomes evident production is an issue early on. 1:04 was very empty and dry. Sounding like keyboard plonking. The beats that came in were jarring. They were swung too much and felt out of time with the track. The snare/clap thing was hitting too often, making the beat quite hard to follow. Again at 2:38, its just drum sounds being hit fast with a lot of swing, doesn't do the track any favours. The quality of the sounds is varied. Some of the keyboards are great, but stuff like the drums and strings sound really thin or cheap. I think you need to tone down the swing, and try and make everything a little tighter. 2:09 was supposed to be jazzy, but because it didn't fit the drums, it sounded really sloppy. Make sure all the intruments are in sync. You might want to experiment with some new drum sounds and patterns too. Like Larry said, the arrangement ideas themselves aren't bad, its the execution really letting it down. NO

OCR01818 - *YES* Final Fantasy 6 'This Hazy Place'
Fishy replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
The textures in this are beyond awesome. Very BT. zyko kindly summed up my thoughts: everything sounds intentional. No one with a poor sense of production could create something like this, everything had to be done with intent. Not once listening to this did I ever feel like anything was out of place. I disagree with a lot of the crits on this. This is easily comparable to Overcoat's Cave Story remix, which was passed despite repetition and weird production. This is imo stronger in both arrangement and production then that. I didn't have to think much about passing that, so I don't see this any differently. I think this is a great remix, extremely creative, and it worked like a charm for me. YES -
Guitar learning advice/remix tabs?
Fishy replied to Sinewav's topic in Music Composition & Production
This is how I learned to play. You just have to pick challenging songs and eventually you'll catch up to them. Powertab used to be an amazing resource, but the site got shutdown for copyright reasons. If you go to ultimate-guitar they have most of the old powertabs there. Thread with ocr music: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=3480 Not many tabs there though. -
Thats pretty much the jist. The guitar on the later section is laughably bad in spots though, i was just sketching it out. Don't be afraid returns just after where it ends here.
-
But I did update it the other day. Check the first post again. Also I'm very busy these days. Full time work + judging + audio engineering and composing for a UT3 mod + trying to do 20 remixes at once + attempt at social life. One man can only rawk so hard.

Mostly just setting it up for that tension. If you don't know what you're doing, pay the shop to set it up exactly how you want it. Once its set up properly, it'll stay like that. Google Jemsite for an in-depth setup guide. Generally speaking, the ibanez trems are brilliant. I've got a jackson dinky with a floyd copy, and the feel of the ibanez trem is so much better. They stay in tune well, feel really smooth for whammy stuff and you don't need to cut the balls off the strings on most models. Floyd rose's are a thing of the past these days, they've made few changes since the original concept, ibanez are setting the trend these days imo.

Congratulations, you're the first person ever to actually come here and apologise.

I think you mean lower right.

Yeah, some of them aren't so great, but if you get anything with prestige on it, you're damn safe far as i've heard.
