  1. And here I was thinking this thread would form a string of bad ideas.
  2. Depends how you use it I spose. The processing options are huge, its just most people (like me) love the sonor snare. Scaredsim has tricked me numerous times into thinking he hasn't used AD.
  3. I had to translate mine from "dude" into English already.
  4. I can hear minor changes in bitrate in "brickwall" dynamics, but apparently I can't hear a huge one in this sort of thing. There's got to be a reason for that, even if I can't explain it. Maybe my hearing is damaged and I just can't hear high frequencies. (Kinda related: I know a girl who can't hear a bass guitar when you play it.)
  5. I got it wrong after one listen of each, but I think its a terrible example. Bitrate is highly important in heavier/fuller soundscapes, not in something very quiet. I realised I can tell the difference between one of my rock remixes mixdowns that I made that were 160kbps and 192kbps while i was mastering it. For a quietly mastered opera, it won't make nearly as much difference as some loud techno or rock.
  6. I came twice too. OH YES and by yes i mean no.
  7. I've partitioned my hard drive, and you can't use one external HD for both OS's. They use different file systems, it will just ask you to reformat it. You can afaik copy stuff from said hard drive onto either system, you just can't write to it... I think. Flash drives are no problem though, either can write to it.
  8. This is now the funniest picture on ocr.
  9. Well, I would rather you didn't, but I can't really stop you, and I'm not gonna kick an awesome track from the project for it. I've had a track to be posted for the pokemon project since end of 2006 and surprisingly haven't complained, despite tweek jumping ship in the meantime.
  10. My ISP cut us off a few weeks back. Everything looked normal and online, but it wouldn't let us do anything either. Apparently we were sending spam emails or something. Whatever you say Sky.
  11. Screw nintento/japan in general for releasing games pointlessly late in the uk. On the plus side, I unlocked every single character in one sitting . So far my favourites are definately Pit and Ike. I know Ike gets a lot of bad press as a noob cannon but he really is a joy to play. Don't worry, I don't just sit there and forward smash repeatedly. I've got to say, I was hugely dissapointed with my melee main (captain falcon) being NERFED TO BALLS. What the hell were they thinking?
  12. Oh sorry yeah, it was that; was a long time ago. But anyway, I have a physical CD on my shelf for a reason, and it isn't criminal.
  13. I was offered a free CD for voting for Hajime in the finals, and I bought it anyway because I thought Jill deserved it. That is what a fan does, they support their favorite artists. Not a crime last time I checked.
  14. Every time I listen to a remix of yours, I'm amazed by how badly things turn once you stop using the source. Even back when I was reviewing on the wip forum, I said the same thing. You might still have that pm review that said you should try something simple and stick close to it. Its probably a year later and I'm still saying the same thing. Larry has said it on more then one occasion too I'm sure. I love dissonance, and I love strange orchestrations, but the feeling and the flow is lost on me for most of this. In parts you think okay this sounds good, but quickly some strange suspension of sudden volume drop totally ruins the moment. There needs to be more consistency otherwise it just meanders from note to note. I'm tearing my hair out listening to it when I hear some thing nice, and all it needs is a nice resolution, a proper cadence, but instead it just keeps going into something uninteresting. Sorry to keep going on about this but its a constant issue that is a major part of the constant stream of NOs you get. Please try and work on a proper structure for your next mix. If each section was easily discernible and resolved properly, things would be a lot less tiring. I don't mean to be harsh, but I've heard most of your stuff now from way before I've been judging, and I can tell I'll be making the same points for quite a while :/. NO
  15. Lo-fi rain samples with weird arpeggios confuse me. Enter castle theme. This sounds like the original with better samples plus an annoying buzzy synth and vocal slapped on top. Credit where its due, the orchestral elements blend together nicely. However, as mentioned above, you need to interpret and develop the source material to get a yes around here. Also, the rain and thunder samples could be a bit more subtle. They just sound crammed in as they are. Nice brass stuff by the way, that stuff is hard to get right. Clearly some potential here, just concentrate on re-arranging more to start with. NO
  16. 0:41 is probably the most awesomely cheesy thing ever. This sounds really good to me. Obvious attention to details and automation on the synths, and the drums sound great, especially the middle section. Those are some awesome beats right there. I can't think of any criticism for the production at all, so thats nice. On the arrangement side, we're pushing 6 minutes but the comparatively short source riff has been used creatively for most of the remix. Vinnie's breakdown is spot on. It sounds liberal, but the majority of the time there is some recognizable source tune right there, and its been expanded into new ideas. The original writing ties the other sections together really well; I especially enjoyed the part at 2:52, some lovely evil chords there that contrast the source nicely. I think this is a fairly easy pass despite the liberalism, and will probably be a classic. YES
  17. Stuff like smash bros I will be playing forever, but in terms of single player: FFVII - 10+ FFX - 5+ Diddy Kong Racing - 5+ Super Mario 64 - 5+ Pokemon red/blue - 5+ Toejam and Earl - 10+ Super Mario 6 Gold Coins - 5+ Call of Duty 4 - 5+ (including vet mode twice ) Streets of Rage - 10+ (This was back in the day though) I've replayed most FF games and a few Zelda ones here and there aswell.
  18. I want this to be special for both of us. I don't think the piano sound was too bad really, not enough to bother me. What was more concerning were the trills and flourishes; They sounded like they weren't quite pulled off properly. Otherwise the performance sounded pretty good, butt oddly mechanical at times. *curious face* This does indeed suffer from the medleson's syndrome. Its very easy to fall into the trap of playing each bit once through then moving on. At OCR you really want to be meshing the peices together rather then slapping them end on end. That said its aight as a standard medley. I think I'd like to hear this length of piano arrangement from one source from you, that would encourage you to experiment with the ideas in the source tunes and be a little more creative. Stuff like 4:25 onwards was really awesome to me. Interesting chords and using the source sequence well, golden. If we got more moments like those going on, it could turn out pretty sweet. In terms of this arrangement though, its just many sources being used conservatively, and connected like a puzzle with some bits missing. Not bad at all for a first attempt, just work on your arranging skills, and don't be afraid to go mad with little ideas from the source and mess with stuff. I'm glad we did this. Next time will be even better. NO resub plz
  19. Intro reminds me of something from Goldeneye. By about 1:05, my ears are getting confused by the soundscape. The mix is very messy, and lots of the instruments just don't gel and just seemed tacked on. The original writing is very dissonant and doesn't seem like it works with itself. The melody and harmony don't match at all in places. I get the feeling that the little chromatic bits here and there like at 2:09 or 1:44 sound really cool in your head, just not to everyone else and thats a huge problem really. Again with Larry hitting the nail on the head before everyone else . The more listenable parts of this are in the first minute or so before the original additions kick in, and then everything goes haywire. As I've suggested to you in the past, try remixing something simple and recognizable, and I think you'll do a lot better and be able to isolate some of your key areas to improve upon much more easily. NO
  20. Wow, sylistically this is freakin awesome; five kinds of Tuesday. Parts like the bits of silence at 1.44 or the gliss at 0:41 are very cool, and the sound choices worked together, even if they were pretty lossy. I think overall the lo-fi feel was overdone though, as none of the sounds have any of that high frequency brightness you would expect from chiptunes. Get those highs back in there and I bet this will come to life. As Larry pointed out, the arrangement is to short and then just repeated. Pretty much the only difference I can hear between the first half and 1:44 onwards is the addition of some bell sounds, which isn't great when there isn't too much re-arrangement to begin with. I'd suggest re-writing from 1:44 with a whole new set of ideas in a much more liberal arrangement, or some original stuff based off the chord progression. Definately resub this, its kickin'. NO Resub plz
