  1. This song is the definition of polish. It's a very DoD-friendly style (with a bit of extra quantize, so you know OA had his hands in it ) and perhaps not the most ambitious synth-rock song ever, but it's damn well-executed and absolutely a joy to listen to. Soloing is solid on both parts, the melodies are catchy and fun to play along to... really, what's not to love here? Congrats on the DoD victory you two
  2. So sexy. It's liberal, yeah, but it's one of those things I didn't even notice until someone pointed it out because it took the part of Stickerbush that's most memorable to me and made it a key point in the track. The beauty's in the details here; the song is pretty basic and, as some may say, underwhelming when taken as a whole. However, the little things like the pitchbended bass or those killer arp transitions are really amazing and contribute a lot to the mood here. The groove makes it an enjoyable listen but the ambiance and mood make it memorable. This one sits really well with me
  3. Couldn't have put it better myself man I mean, when it comes to Stevo and acoustic guitars, you can pretty much be guaranteed that the result will be awesome. But damn, I'd say avaris is just as much of a hero here for the downright beautiful atmospheric work he did to give the track a bit more of a "sunny spring morning" feel, as if you're just waking up with a beam of sunlight on your bed, beckoning you into the new day. Maybe "Awakening" would have been a more appropriate title? Seriously, if either artist has an explanation for the remix title (is it just a reference to how you guys finished it so quickly?) I'd love to hear it! Gorgeous.
  4. This is probably halc's most overtly-chippy posted mix, but I love how he mixes it up with some rhodes and atmospheric sounds to give this song more of a defined mood. It's not my favorite of his mixes, but its' a wonderful take on a theme that we all pretty much have come to know and love. I really like how it manages to stay pretty laid back with so many gritty synths and glitchy melody lines throughout the whole song. It's an interesting result, for sure.
  5. I'm the opposite of Deia on this one, I really feel like this was the most memorable song on Sonata, for the same reason as she said - it really does have a lot to do with the source, it just... funks it up a lot Brings back a lot of good memories to Portrait of Ruin, one of the Castlevania games that stole the most time from me overall while I tried to complete it 100%. Definitely feels like a standout track to me!
  6. While I don't feel like this is quite as standout as Joshua's other track on Serious Monkey Business, I still feel like it's one of the best songs on the album. That should say something about his mixing ability The source is treated with a lot of delicate care, keeping that jungle atmosphere with ethnic flutes and some brilliantly-sequenced percussion, but managing to take it to a whole new level with the jazz flair you injected in, especially toward the end. Pretty much flawless here. Love it
  7. This is superlative. It really captures that live jazz band feel perfectly despite being full of sequenced material. The drums are particularly fantastic and perfectly humanized, I wouldn't have batted an eye if someone had told me this was a totally live recording. A bit repetitiveness on the piano riffs is pretty much the only complaint I can dig up. Really awesome remix!
  8. This mix is really clean and pristine, exactly what I've come to expect from Rozo at his best. Listening to the first version he posted above, it's really crazy to see how far this one has come. Good call on the hand percussion OA, it really gives this track a sense of motion and energy despite its chill-out-edness.
  9. Goddamn, this is hilarious considering how good Mattias is with electronic music nowadays. He's come a damn long way since his noob days but this still feels like a very polished and enjoyable listen all the same. Just goes to show what a prolific and creative mixer he is and always has been
  10. Oh hell yes, this is tiiiiighhtt! It totally plays off of the great melodies from the original (*stares angrily at the AC haters) and really breathes a ton of new life into it, which is why I was so disappointed to see the Animal Crossing project fail - the source tunes, while they may sound unconventional, are full of great melodies like this one that can be adapted in so many ways. Major props on the KK samples too, that's just awesome!
  11. This arrangement is deceptively simple, so the groove and the vibe really carries this song. Honestly, when you're going for this kind of chillout feel, you don't need to go all-out with the instrumentation. I do feel like the piano is a little weak and could use some more tightening on the humanization level, but that's a minor quibble that doesn't interfere with my enjoyment of the song at the end of the day. This one's gonna be getting a lot of airplay on my end this holiday season, I love what you did!
  12. While I feel like the main draw of this track is the impeccable production and sample quality (I'll admit, I'm somewhat of a sample whore ) but the arrangement of this track goes a lot of places without feeling too stale. I'm getting some Mario Galaxy vibes from some of the orchestration, among many other things. Very diverse cinematic interpretation, while I do notice some of the copypasta that DJP alludes to in his writeup, I don't necessarily feel like it's a big problem ultimately.
  13. Josh Whelchel is a beast, that's all that needs to be said. I love how this builds up very deliberately over time, starting off with a very small set of instruments and adding more while still maintaining the feel that was set in the original for most of the song. The thin kit drums are a bit of an odd choice for the genre and, surprisingly, I feel like they work just as good as a typical orch kit would have, thanks to the constant presence of the bells and synths throughout the song. The more intense string parts offer a good counterpoint and keep this mix interesting throughout. I always appreciate attempts like this to keep the orchestral genre fresh and interesting!
  14. Love the drumming on this one right from the start. The song feels a little sparse for a while until around :54, but after that point I'm digging it. Especially given the source you were working with, this is a great effort. Piano soloing around 1:24 is a real highlight for me, this totally feels like a Bad Dudes track after that point (as if it didn't already!) I think everyone has a different point where the track clicks for them, but regardless I think it's ultimately an enjoyable listen and a great expansive take on the source.
  15. This song caught me off guard at first. The pacing, the synth choices, the beat... it's one of those mixes that's really hard to pigeonhole. Obviously there was some inspiration here to take the source in an unconventional, unusual direction like this, so I've gotta give you props. This mix took a long while to grow on me, but I've certainly come to appreciate the way it was executed.
  16. Can't say I'm too much of a fan of this genre, but I can certainly see a lot of merit in this track. The lead guitar work is pretty great and captures a pretty intense mood. As Brandon pointed out, the mechanical drums seem like a bit of a weak point. Overall, this is a pretty crunchy, distorted, vicious track that does a pretty good job with the genre it tackled, even if it's not necessarily my cup of tea, I can see why a lot of people like this one.
  17. That synth... damn, that feels so inspired. It really helps build up the intensity of the track more than you might think it would. Of course, the rest of the track ain't bad either - it's pretty much exactly what I would have hoped for out of the first Lockjaw's Locker remix on the site. Intense, moody, and well-produced... what's not to love?
  18. Hey! OA sure does know how to party This track exudes cheesiness out the ass but at the end of the day I honestly love it. Great melodies, particularly in the guitar solo towards the end... and I don't care how biased this site can be against fadeouts, I think it worked well here. I wasn't sure what could really be done with Cranky's Conga for the project so I'm glad you took it in a unique direction here. C'mon!
  19. What impresses me most about this mix is how far Justin was able to go with a 30-second source tune. He really stretches it to its limits with a lot of dynamic tempo/rhythmic/melodic alterations that give this track life beyond a lot of other pure orchestral mixes. In particular, I love the plucked strings during some of the lighter, airier sections of the song. Nice work, as usual
  20. Ross sure has a way of crafting songs that are downright crazy, in perhaps a more literal sense than is usually used to describe music The melodies are spastic and quirky and a lot of fun to jam along to on keyboards actually. Pretty much every synth and bell in the mix seems picked specifically for the purpose of making the song sound even more insane so that the final remix is really a trip to listen to. Perhaps not the most true-to-source theme on Serious Monkey Business, but damn if it isn't enjoyable Good work Ross!
  21. When I heard Nutritious had a song of his featured on the Gears disc of the Xeno project, I was pretty shocked, cause up til that point I'd only heard straight-orchestral material from him. This a shockingly-well-executed change of pace for him, though I do like how he worked in his usual orchestral style into the breakdown sections of the song. The sax was a real nice touch too
  22. It's the lemon who saved Christmas! Love your WIP man, you tore it up so far! This is the kind of work ethic I like to see. CLAIM SONG - TURN IN WIP 20 MINUTES LATER <3 u
  23. I agree that when you have really quiet leads like the flute playing, the snare really needs to be brought back a bit so those melodies can be more audible. The same goes for your double bass in the last minute of the song, those need to be brought down a notch or compressed some so they'll fit better into the sound field. I do like the fatter sound you're getting out of your drums overall though, it's definitely an improvement. The closing note is pretty weak, you could definitely find a more powerful stab to end the song with. The orchestration and arrangement is pretty spotless though, I'd say if you can work out the last few kinks in your drums and the ending, this should be good to go Great work improving this one, it's come a loooong way!
  24. If your excitement for a project lasts more than 36 hours, contact a doctor as this may be a sign of a rare but serious side effect.
  25. I just realized that I'm responsible for over 10% of the total plays for your songs on last.fm XD
