  1. Agreed, this is one of my favorite songs from FF VI. It really fit the mood of what was going on in the game at the time. What style were you thinking of? I might give it a go, I just have a lot of projects floating around at the moment.
  2. Wow, that was great!
  3. EDIT 04/08/2011 The EWQL orchestra pack has expired, so moving that link to the bottom. I plan on incorporating synth1 orchestral percussion to V2. Once that's done, I'll update it to V2.5 or something and edit here. ====================================================== EDIT 7/24/2008: Version 2: http://cid-dda80e3cb135e034.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Justin%20Medford%20-%20FL%20Orchestra%20V2a.zip?lc=1033 Still requires downloading Squidfont Orchestral, but not Cadenza: Link to Squidfont, which is the bread and butter of this project: http://soundfonts.darkesword.com Scroll down to Squidfont. (Thanks, DS!) Tweaked some panning and parameters for better sound quality and organized the various instruments better. ====================================================== Since I've recently moved to a new orchestral library, I thought I'd share my previous FL setup for producing strings or orchestral music. It exclusively utilizes free soundfonts available on sites like hammersound.net (though it looks like it's been hacked lately or something, I wouldn't go there) as well as a couple samples included with FL Studio. Requirements: FL Studio 7 and Fruity Soundfont player. If you don't have the soundfont player, you can probably find a plugin at KVRaudio.com. *EDIT* Links removed for V2.0 I threw together a quick sample inside the project to show you what a full orchestra can sound like. The key here, in my opinion, is liberal use of layers and doubling of parts. If you need a faster attack on the strings, use more cadenza strings. For slower legato, use more squidfont violins. You'll also notice I use two of the FL Studio default samples for some string sounds. These help to give more body to the strings, while squidfont and cadenza provide the better timbres. Try muting out some of the sounds if you want to hear the difference. I hope you guys find this useful. Enjoy! ================================= EWQL demo link gone, but posting V3 here for archive sake: EDIT 01/03/2010 Version 3.0 Released: http://cid-dda80e3cb135e034.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/FL%20Orchestra%20Template%20v3.0%20by%20Justin%20Medford.zip Demo song: (link gone, will replace later) Link to Squidfont: http://soundfonts.darkesword.com Scroll down to Squidfont. (Thanks, DS!) -Added free EWQL orchestra pack and synth1 -New demo song
  4. Looking at the list kinda makes me feel selfish It will be epic, sir.
  5. Well, personally, I don't see anything wrong with a formal tone, necessarily (assuming you're talking about the descriptions on the checkboxes). It helps keep the form concise with still getting the point across. By going through a form like this, the person giving feedback is reminded to listen for specific points that will affect the song's chances of passing the panel. There's still plenty of room for personal comments in whatever tone you want to write them.
  6. One of the best games I've ever played (original MG:S). Get it.
  7. Working on a WIP of Stronghold Showdown. I'll try and have it PM'd soon.
  8. Dangit Doug. I had to try REALLY hard to stop myself from laughing out loud at work while listening to your entry. My Votes should come soon.
  9. Whoah! Someone else played Aerobiz (and actually noticed the music?). Awesome . Good memories of a once-rented game.
  10. Great job, Greg! Seems like you've got a lot going for you lately
  11. -Making Regional Honors band my senior year of high school playing 3rd chair saxophone -Getting a Superior at state for a saxophone solo that same year (even though I was so nervous, I couldn't even draw a full breath; only time in my life that's ever happened) -Getting a song accepted here (though it won't be posted for a while)
  12. Atari was a little before my gaming time, but I managed to guess enough to get 11. *SPOILER* The guantlet one brought back some memories
  13. I will be wearing my sweater. I used to love that show as a kid. Mostly I remember the trolley and changing shoes.
  14. Awesome Tron Reference +1 ... and welcome
  15. Beat me to it I'd already started on one.
  16. Awesome. We need to get some of those old wips going again, though.
  17. Master of Orion 3 - 1 & 2 were awesome and I assumed 3 would be the same. I was wrong. I spent maybe an hour with it and gave up. Wish I read reviews beforehand. I'll try and think of more later
  18. Heh, I had the same problem when I was first using it, but digging through the manual finally yielded my answer: Ok, so I'm assuming you're loading multiple instruments into your EWQLSO instance and controlling them with MIDI out channels (if you're not, let me know and I can explain it). Now, open the MIDI out channel for your brass instrument. Right click on the top left of one of the 8 blank knobs and click configure. Now, give it a full name and short name (doesn't really matter, up to you, but the short name will show up when you use it). Then, go down to Controller Number. Enter in 1, then click accept. Now this knob will control the Mod Wheel for the instrument the MIDI out is controlling. All you need to do now is to control it throughout the song. The best way I've found to do this is with automation clips. Right click on the knob and click create automation clip. A green clip will appear on your timeline, which will control the value of the Mod Wheel while the song is playing. Just adjust it to the desired levels and you're good to go.
  19. Congrats on the win Zirc, it's well deserved. And LOL to sixth place for me. Can't get any closer yet still end up empty-handed
  20. Anyone think (or, better yet, know if) there will be results today?
  21. Awesome, thanks for the link. I'll never understand why it took so long for this to come out, but hey, I'm happy for any new Indiana Jones stuff.
  22. Bummer, missed out on voting by a few hours. And that would've been the tiebreaker . Last time we had a 3-way tie, Rexy voted to break it. So, it's not unheard of.
  23. Beautiful music here and great arrangment and development of themes. Funny thing is, I recently started a Dark World orchestral arragement myself. Needless to say, it's now officially scrapped . I really would've liked to hear this song to full-bore on the main Dark World theme, but despite that, it's still a very pleasing arrangement. The Death Mountain section really brought back memories of the first time I reached that point in the game (yeah, the rabbit part). Pieces that bring back this kind of nostalga are my favorite listens. Well done.
  24. Wow, so, yeah... I can see that this hasn't gotten much attention so far. Anyway, live saxophone: http://nutritious3.googlepages.com/FF5-MainTheme_6a_2.mp3
