  1. Thanx guys. I understand this whole workflow thing a hell of a lot better now. Course, I still need to get even as far as presets and loops...
  2. Errmmm... But can you interface speaker wire to it? You know... address the question I asked.
  3. But where oh where are the pinball flippers?! I was talking about instituting some basic multimedia here at Dickinson just today.
  4. I read Andy's recent post for the DIY musician, and when he got to the part about speaker monitors I was reminded of an old question I've had: Is it possible and/or worth it to interface speakers which use speaker wires to your soundcard? In my dream setup I'd get a superawesome 7.1 setup, but when speakers get that serious they don't plug into an eighth inch jack on your soundcard. This may seem kind of noobish because I haven't worked with higher end soundcards before, but I'm sure it's an issue I'll confront sooner or later.
  5. Thanx. That's good info. I think he and I will be working together on a music project so hopefully I'll learn enough to do what he does.
  6. True, but just think about the sheer logistics of it. This guy isn't stupid, but he doesn't seem like an FL Studio supergenius either. I guess I'm trying to understand what usually is and should be involved with making a mix. Would you, who's been doing this for years and years, feel confident saying you could make something like what he did in two hours?
  7. So I've been around here for over a year, trying to pick up the basic of remixing. I've been very busy, so the time I've spent has not been a huge amount. I hear tales of remixers who spend months and months fine tuning their mixes and getting things just right. So I naturally assumed that remixing involved dedicating a lot of time. But then I found out a guy I know here at school has actually been using FL Studio for a couple of years and had made a good number of songs. But when I sat him down to grill him on everything he knew, it seemed his knowledge was pretty limited. "I just load up the default samples and play around until it sounds good." He didn't know what an LFO was. I asked him how long it usually took him to make a song. "Well, most of them are pretty short, like two minutes, so between one and two hours." What really confused me about all this is that his songs sound good, much better than I'd been led to believe they'd sound when spending the amount of time he indicated on them. Before anyone insinuates otherwise, I'm pretty sure he does actually do all this himself. His girlfriend mentioned how often he's on his computer using the program. And his personality isn't the type that would lead me to believe he'd be interested in pulling such a massive scam.
  8. I would imagine not, considering the circumstances.
  9. That may be true, but if I don't have some kind of prior connection to the music then it's much harder for me to appreciate. It's like what usually happens with me and Weird Al: I end up hearing his version before the song it parodies. Sure, it's still funny, but if I actually heard the original first I would be able to find his songs that much more humorous.
  10. I think on this forum that would be especially false. Explain this part. Do you personally get an especially hot cut rate deal on hardware, or are you referring to the cost difference anyone would save when building a machine themselves?
  11. Lamest party ever.
  12. Check it out, son.
  13. Taucer and I have talked about a metal arrangement. That's basically what the original track wants to be.
  14. Whoa, fuckshit. I never cared for this game too much but I think I'm going to have to go back to it now.
  15. See what good grammar can do for you? If this were correct you'd have an extra character.
  16. ...wait, srsly? What kind of code was involved in doing this?
  17. Just something that's not during the colllege rigamarole. I don't really care how blown up it is.
  18. Do we have an update from Kyle's project that we can include?
  19. Depending on how this goes, would you consider doing this again in the summer?
  20. Going to the college party to stuff my face, then disappear from the scene and get work done. w00t.
  21. Game: Chrono Trigger System: SNES Song: Boss Battle 1 Composer: Yasunori Mitsuda (@ 0:25) (@ 0:45)SPC MP3 (If allowed) MIDI 1 MIDI 2 MIDI 3 The background arpeggiation should be used in addition to the main melody.
  22. Anyone seen this?
  23. 23 To Be Posteds and counting...
  24. No, I enjoy it too. I like the opening track, particularly because when I finally achieved Super Sonic, I naturally wanted to race as him in the secret level. So I start it up, notice the music is different, get TOTALLY PUMPED, realize it's the title track, and blast through the level.
