wip Darkstalkers' Revenge - Lei Lei's (Hsien-Ko's) theme
BlackPanther replied to CC Ricers's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This sounds fuckin sweet! Ok now time for some attempted feedback: That initial synth I think is a little too loud compared to the rest of the track. I think it's that same one threatenss the track throughout the song. Maybe turn that down a few clicks? The snare sounds like it could be a little too hot, might want to make sure that isn't peaking over, could just be the effects though. Speaking of the snare, maybe layer a snare with more of a snap on top. Keep the punch, try the snap. The section at :42 gets bass heavy, it doesn't clip but it just sounds cluttered and distorted. Hard to explain but it threw me off for a sec. That synth and the snare were the only two things that stood out as bothersome too me. The source is there I can easily hear it, and this arrangment is pretty dope. This is pretty fuckin awesome right now but I don't think it's ready to be subbed yet. I think you could go as far as changing this to mod review and see what the vets would say about this. Good luck man I hope you keep working on this because like I said before, this is fuckin awesome lol =D. -
I really appreciate the feedback Calum, now to address some of the issues: I may put some more vocals in there, what the guy says is, "Seems to be accelerating with each hour" and I used it because well it helped to move the track foward because right after that, the ride comes in to make the beat more intense. Either way I'll try to throw some more vocals in there I think I can figure somethin out xD I do have a synth line prepped for the song, but that doesn't come in till later, maybe I'll experiment and see what type of sound I get if I add it to the earlier parts There probably won't be any sidechaining in this track at all. It's not really meant to be dancy, well as far as club dancin goes lol. I can see a breakdancer dancin to this which usually doesn't consist of sidechained elements. Like I once said, thank you for the feedback, greatly appreciate it. Any other takers?

finished NES-style version of Sublime - Boss DJ
BlackPanther replied to Benjamin Briggs's topic in Post Your Original Music!
Oooo wow, that song is cool. I just thought of one, how about Jack Johnson's "Banana Pancakes", it just popped into my head, but for that second, I heard a really cool 8-bit rendition like what you just did here. -
Kinda random for me, but I figured I would help to wish this guy a happy birthday as he helped to give us "Passing of the Blue Crown", which is one of my favorite remixes on this site. Happy birthday Steppo!

Gotta love it when you get all the views and no feedback lol. This is pretty sweet. I don't really have any complaints as you did a good job with this. I was thinkin at first, 8-bit and vocals, how is that possible but you did a really good job of blending both elements. I like the lyrics as well lol, good stuff chthonic. -
OCR02082 - Donkey Kong Country 2 "Castle Crescendo"
BlackPanther replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I think this may be my favorite song from DKC2 as well, and this is my favorite track from Greg so double plus. I love his style of orchestral instrumentation, probably because of the lack of reverb which makes it sound tighter and I'm assumin helps to blend in with the electronic side of Greg. I love that contrast between the orchestral parts from the electronic parts, at first it's kinda slow but you know it's gonna build to somethin, then it does, a nice electronic breakbeat section that's cohesive with the rest of the track, overall outstanding piece, good shit sir. -
Happy birthday bLiNd!

Smooth Criminal meets GeckoYamori

How the fudge did I miss this?! I'm glad you bumped because this tight as hell. -
Yeah the remix was a bit conservative, try to expand beyond the melodies a bit. As far a as production goes, there are a lot of things that goes into that, plus I'm not sure what you're havin trouble with, there are a few guides around here and zircon is actually gonna be coming out with a full beginning to finish series of video tutorials of making a remix so I'm sure that'll help a lot of people such as yourself me included xD. Some things I would say is: Make sure your samples have a clear sound, you don't want lo-fi unless it's intentional. Watch volume levels aside from instruments and sounds fitting into the frequency spectrum nicely, you want the sounds to fit cohesively without being to overbearing or soft to hear. As far as the stereo field goes, anything bassy is center for a nice tight sound, and everything else you can keep normal or widen a little bit, just don't overdo it. That's all I can think of right now, I suck at this type of stuff but I'm workin on it =D.

Freshly Baked ReMixer Challenge 2010: It's Over!
BlackPanther replied to Ramaniscence's topic in Competitions
Uh no lol. A challenge is being able to make somethin based on the guidelines provided you weren't originally given this long to make somethin so it's not a challenge anymore. No matter how you look at it it wasn't fair to the people who got theirs done on time. If you can't see the wrong in choosing to participate in this, then turning around and choosing to go work on every other thing except this, whether this is just for fun or not, then somethin isn't right with you, I'm sayin this to everyone defending themselves about doing other things. The positive side is that there will be much more mixes to enjoy so I won't complain any further xD. -
It would be cool to get a link to the source xD. But on to the attempt at a review: Piano sounds rigid, not human like. Where's that guitar from? It doesn't sound too bad in my opinion but then again I'm a nub when it comes to guitars so you might want to disregard my comment lol. That pad that sounds like it's panned to the left kinda hard is very distracting. It's not really doing anything to help the track stay cohesive, it feels like it's doin it's own thing, might want to center that more and help to keep it balanced in the frequency spectrum. Wasn't really satisfied with the ride cymbal by itself seems like it needs more drum work. If you're goin for a chill type style, you can still get away with a kick and snare just give the snare some verb and make sure that the drum beat is slow, but that's more of a personal preference. That's all I got I think Overall this sounds cool, but could definitely use some work in production. Just keep workin and practicin and you'll get there. I'm sure Rozo covered basically everything that needed to be said but I figured I would chime in anyways since you were so kind to check my music out. Good luck to you bud!

Thanks dude! This is all sequenced unfortunately, I wish I could do some of this stuff for real haha. The guitar is a combination of real strat guitar by musiclab and guitar rig 4. The drums are from When Alien Robots Attack sample pack which can be bought at loopmasters, a lot of those sound effects are from that library as well. Lol I look forward to a montage if you have time to make one xD, and thanks again man.

Hey yall, I got another track for you guys to check out. The song is by Camryn titled, "Move your Body". They asked for dance or chill songs, and since I wanted to do an electro mix I figured this would be a good time to try my luck. The original song can be heard here, and the remix can be heard here. Hope you guys enjoy. Oh and I encourage anyone who's up to it to try your luck and send in an entry as well. The deadline isn't till mid Sept so there's still plenty of time, I plan on submitting a liquid dnb track for my chill song. Wish me luck either way. And if you give me some feedback on what you thought, good or bad, I promise to return the favor and give feedback as best as I can =).

Still workin on gettin the ear to notice the subtleties. All in all I think this turned out pretty good though. Move your body(BlackPanther Remix)
