  1. just so you know... the split timeline theory has been around since wind waker came out. which was oh i dunno 8 years ago? this is not new. sooo i'd kind of beg to differ the whole 'if he's defeated' thing does serve as a neat way to tidy up all the games that don't necessarily fit but they are all also games where ganon is an already-present threat (aside from link's awakening which was a big dream on an imaginary island) as opposed to the other games in the series where ganon (or sometimes vaati) is a newly arisen threat. so thematically it still fits just fine i don't see a huge problem with it.

I pretty much agree with this, she's not overtly better than every ap ever or anything like that, but her cooldowns can get far too low for how much mana they cost. i usually build diana full cooldown (nashor's, grail) and the teleport can get down to like 9 seconds cooldown, not to mention the q is like 4 and a half and at that point you have all the mana you could ever want anyways. on the other hand, i can see why they're doing all of the character reworks/rearranges, because they see that this is happening and they're making moves to give older characters that are getting left in the dust relevancy. for instance, the kat rework didn't do a TON but the lower cooldown on ult and the new e that gives more mobility and a little more burst create a character with more options than the original version. playstyle can stay the same, but now she can jungle, or build tanky with cooldown and sheen. also the garen rework did a really good job of giving garen late game relevancy i think. the scaling w and crit on q are both big buffs, even if his original base values did get cut.
  3. did you have problems with it before? if this is the case i'm very happy because one of my main deterrents to playing this in the beta was how choppy it got in a matter of minutes. if i can play this even on low settings with consistent framerate i will be happy.
  4. it's also worth it because then you don't expect them to call mias/do things normal people would do, so you pay attention more.
  5. to anyone who hasn't already figured this out, when you're playing and someone starts saying dumb shit, just mute them immediately. it's amazing how much better you play. i started doing that this past week and have turned around some pretty well lost games.

  7. i kinda agree with you the first half was a lot better than the second, the winddown was a little underwheming. i also just went through all of the avatar series up until current korra, and it's AWESOME. the first little while feels kinda meh but it picks up really well early-mid to mid show and then you love it for ever and ever

  9. i never played the first one but this looks very pretty. was warriors of light traditional ff style or crystal chronicles style?

OH ALSO i don't think i ever mentioned this but the new fire emblem is also great. it has a very similar feel, with a few more side-questy type deals. you definitely miss a lot if you don't read along with the game, and it is very wordy (i've had a time trying to get through the whole thing in japanese but i still pretty much know what's going on) but the character interactions are fun and playful, if not slightly cliched. also the battle scenes are done out in full 3d and look very pretty, though after seeing them a bunch of times you'll still fastforward through them. i'm not all the way through it yet but there's multiple story arcs; i was surprised when the first one ended and then they were like "oh hey part 2" and i was like whuuuuuuuh

  12. really? i thought it looked TON better than the original show. to each their own though. i just finished this and the original series in the past month and i want more. immediately. can i buy it in hd somewhere? like i would pay for that.
  13. sigh. okay. in order. wrong, wrong, good work at reading a mission statement and forgetting that you can't do that for free/i really shouldn't have to make that distinction in a 'will this console be commercially successful' conversation, hobbyists and bedroom programmers will be happy but who else should care, no one when some sort of legitimate information about this console comes out i'll see if there's anything that changes my mind but until then, if this is it, then i'm done with this thread. at this point neither of you are even debating my points you're picking at my words and trying to bring me down instead of being like 'here's where i think you're wrong.' have fun.
  14. hey halcyon sorry but both of your reviews give zero context to anyone who hasn't seen them or doesn't know of them. in both cases you haven't actually told me anything about the series or the movie, just whether you thought they did a good job at whatever it is they did. something to keep in mind for next time. i'm sure if i knew these movies i would appreciate your opinion but as someone who doesn't know these things already it didn't hold a whole lot of meaning for me.

  18. what's different is you were being snarky and a douche, and at that point in time you guys seemed to all think i was talking about *AT ALL, EVER* as opposed to in terms of creating a successful console with successful games. which is, you know, the entire point of arguing over a console's success? i mean really. People's hobbies and pastimes aren't worthless, it'd be stupid to say they are. But a COMPANY, that's trying to make MONEY, doesn't make games for free without having some sort of way of making profit, such as sponsorship or hope of future employment. Not sure how everyone missed that Ouya is kind of based on profit and success, not people's hobbies. All of you who seem to think I'm going back on my words are making no distinction between business practices (what we've all been talking about) and personal practices.
  19. that's what this system is though. idealistically i don't disagree with you. but this is not the golden egg, ouya is for profit like anything else. and that's what i'm talking in terms of. whether or not ouya succeeds is not based on the kindness in people's hearts or goodwill points. it's numbers and logic and money and funding. as great as it is that freeware and small-scale developers still exist today, right now it has no place in BIG BUSINESS, which is the market ouya is trying to break into, even if they are doing it in an 'indie friendly' way. and kyle's on point with that one.
  20. Fixed that for you. I really don't think you understand how little work has been done here, or how little information you've been actually given about this system. You've got the press release, for a system that's (in reality) a year or more away from completion, and you're talking in absolutes. It's okay to hope and dream, but don't talk like you know how the system is going to pan out. And sorry about your Cave Story looks like I hit a nerve there. Despite the fact it proves my point because the original cave story got the original developer noticed, and was funded for porting to multiple other systems where it made the developer money. Just like I said was the goal of many freeware developers. Literally the only words you took out of my larger point *which was completely accurate* were 'Cave Story' and 'worthless' and completely phased out the rest of it where I said 'congratulations to him. unless it got him a job that was a complete waste of time. nobody puts hours and hours into making a game for no personal benefit whatsoever.' it DID get him a job. and a lot of money. usually that fits into 'personal benefit' pretty well. and to dshu that's completely off because music exists as more than a product. video games ARE a product, whether they be classified as art or entertainment or whatever. working on remixes as a hobby, and music as a hobby is not a waste of time. by that logic all of the people who play video games here (i.e. everyone) wastes their time all the time.
  21. bolded is me Look. If this system succeeds in proving a low budget business model can work, everyone will be happy. Myself included. I'm not happy that this will likely fail, because if it didn't then it would be healthy for the industry as a whole to see smaller chunks of money being thrown around at the same amount of demand, and start driving large developers away from the overblown teams and budgets they currently have. But nothing about this creates a new incentive to revolutionize the market. You can play android games on your tv. Nice. And until this system makes itself a worthwhile competitor which it likely will not out of the gate, system exclusives proving it's worth will go unnoticed. We all know that critically acclaimed games can go completely under appreciated if they don't have the support and marketing they deserve. The biggest excitement I've seen in this thread over actual games is final fantasy 3 and IJI. When ports are your killer app you have problems. This has been true since forever, why should it be different now? Ouya is a brilliant idea for a very small market of people. Be that as it may, a small market of *consumers* (that's important, consumers, not developers) can yell and scream until the cows come home about how good the Ouya can be AND BE RIGHT, and if no one else cares it really just won't matter at all. OCR is the kind of place where people who have been playing games long enough to appreciate the kind of market Ouya is pushing are. But go outside of this place and outside your gamer groups of friends, and weekend warriors and more casual gamers won't look twice. People who play games on their phone aren't going to spend 100 dollars to play similar games on their tv, and existing console owners aren't going to spend 100 dollars to play a similar market of games as Xbox Arcade/PSN. Why would they? A lot of people want to point to the success of the kickstarter as proof that it's a worthy idea, but let's be real. As of right now, a little over 50,000 people have donated 6,700,000 dollars. That's an impressive amount of money. But then you look and you have to realize that the established base of current generation consoles is in the millions and millions. If 50.000 people buy Ouya, that's not a success.
  22. you were. either that or you're just throwing out snarky comments for fun now. and you guys seem to misunderstand the meaning of "personal benefit." personal benefit can spring from a variety of things. small companies that make small games have a purpose. the purpose of their employees is to get noticed by a larger games company that can give them the payday they believe they deserve, or to find a monetary backer for their next game, or to build experience, or any number of things. it's the same as in any entertainment industry, in order to get noticed you have to put your work out for people to see, largely on your own time and dime. but it is NOT the end, it is the MEANS. obviously not everyone wants to work at a capcom or a nintendo but freeware has a purpose, it is not the mana from the heavens you people are making it out to be. another thing you're all not thinking of is low barrier to entry means lower standard of quality.
  23. congratulations to him. unless it got him a job that was a complete waste of time. nobody puts hours and hours into making a game for no personal benefit whatsoever. implying that it's often done, or even done at all, would be ignorant. if the only amount of money you're considering is the initial up-front cost, sure. the only thing being there is a major difference in exposure and likelihood of success. it's akin to buying a 10 dollar advertisement in the bottom corner of the sports page, or paying 200 dollars to get your advertisement up on a huge billboard in the middle of a packed freeway for a month. one's less expensive, and it's for a pretty good reason. because one is on pc and one is on console. pc gaming and console gaming are separate markets; don't compare apples and oranges. on the other hand, ouya is a console and xbox/ps3 are consoles. so it actually is the same thing with a smaller, less established base where you're likely to make less profit. i don't get what you guys see here, if i open a sports company and say 'hey my spandex shorts are going to be 10 dollars less than Nike's!" Nike is still going to crush the shit out of my company. i don't get where you all seem to see this amazing expansion of market size that's going to magically happen, the gaming industry is frankly overcrowded already. SO WHY IS IT SPECIAL OR IMPORTANT, IF IT'S ALREADY DONE SOMEWHERE ELSE.
  24. Because there are better, larger, more established marketplaces to sell your games in for more money. That was a lot simpler than I thought it would be.
