  1. nobody said that. the only way this console will make a difference is if it can influence the entire market. otherwise this will be a niche console at best. see my previous comments as to why.
  2. so, new super mario brothers 2 is a very good game. the 3d is tastefully done and very subtle, and the game has the same nice feel the new super mario bros. series has always had. the whole 'collect tons of coins' thing is really pretty entertaining, obviously you're gonna have a whole ton of extra lives but running out of lives hasn't been an issue in mario games for awhile now. getting coins is satisfying, especially when they're stacked together in large numbers, which they have been more frequently than in past games. it has also managed to make underwater levels really entertaining for the first time in recent memory. which to me is a pretty big feat. in conclusion, if you have a 3ds this is really worth looking out for. it's an iterative improvement, sure, but given that it's very comfortable, and plain fun to run around in.
  3. just look at the dude. 3 big things: a) he's filming this video in his den/basement/whatever and his friend is just surfing the internet in the background. how professional. listen to the way he talks about his own ideas as if they're brilliant. also how he talks about his failure as if it were someone else's fault, or out of his control. was it out of his control? maybe, who knows, who cares. the point is it becomes glaringly obvious he thinks that he's super hot shit and there's no way that his failures have *any*thing to do with him. c) he's outlined no plan whatsoever, and pretty much said "i'm going to starve myself until you people give me 100k. now hurry it up." he also said that he won't take any bonuses from the company over 55,000 dollars; how much money does he think he's going to be making? he's head of (purportedly) an indie game developer that's donating money to worldwide charities. where would a spare 55,000 dollars come from? if he actually thinks he's doing the right thing, god help him. completely sincere, i hope god finds a way to at the least keep him from killing himself. if he's every bit the sleazebag he looks this is despicable and inappropriate.
  4. yeah the ram thing you guys are right on i was off the mark, not really thinking about it at the time. but the rest of it i still think is pretty much completely legitimate. the only way ouya becomes a success is if they somehow find a way to have large developers (ubisoft, square, whomever) recognize the value in putting out games with lower development costs and lower price tags. that would absolutely be a victory for the industry as a whole. but i really don't see it having enough of a splash. everyone got excited like this about onlive too, and that despite being a relatively good idea didn't get too far.
  5. let me make an actual post then. it'll be rehash of a lot of stuff but here we go. herein lies a system that is far and away the least powerful system on market. herein lies a system that offers nothing new to console gaming, other than the fact that the makers made it so you can hack it. which for all of you who haven't figured it out yet, means anyone who gets this system will, with some tinkering, be able to get any and all games for free. herein lies a system that creates no new market share, as the intended target audiences already use steam, xbox marketplace, psn network (whatever the hell it's called), the apple app store and direct indie purchases to get their games. now let's start with developers. anyone who's looking to make a profit on their games? probably better to look elsewhere. i already listed the options above. and if you're developing android games, then up until now you've probably been trying to make them for people with phones. what people are going to quickly figure out is that android gaming doesn't extend well to a) multiplayer or long, extended experiences. and people don't sit down in front of the tv to play angry birds. that's why they do it on their phone. let's talk about consumers. the big thing behind this whole system is price point. yeah, it's 100 dollars. great. i'll pay 100 dollars for something new. something different. something that meets my needs in a way that other services don't. what service does this system provide that i can't already meet, in some cases for free? (read: steam does everything this console does without having to pay 100 dollars for membership, and if you're trying to play indie, 1gb-ram-only capable games you really won't have an issue of your computer not being up to par.) it provides me, or ANYONE WHO EVEN KNOWS ABOUT IT given that any non-gamer or casual gamer would have no idea this system even exists, with nothing. final fantasy 3 hd? that's cool. too bad it's already out on psp and ds. i get that remakes work for square, but anyone who's hype about that fact already owns final fantasy 3. that's not going to get them any new customers. in fact, anyone who hasn't played a retro final fantasy and tries now will almost certainly say "fuck this, it's difficult and makes no sense" and be done with it. i like the old final fantasy games but even i think they're very heavy in trial and error and more importantly trial and error without explanation, something that does not hold up in modern gaming. so that point is also moot. also, you're damn right i don't see why anyone would want to play an android game on anything more than a 4 inch screen. because it wouldn't look too good. 1gb of ram hasn't been impressive since the early 2000s. also, if you're willing to pay 100 dollars for an emulator box how about downloading emulators and roms for free and buying a game controller to plug into your computer? and do it for 30 dollars? and then just set up your tv as a computer screen? so what it comes down to is, this system is made to do nothing new, and play only the low-end games people already buy just about anywhere else, and it's good because you can have all your indie, low-budget games in one place. and be like also gario, the entire point of this system is to not be a slave to the whims of the big game companies. if they still need their support then the system's aim as a whole has failed.
  6. this will be the centerpiece of every hipster's living room gratz to hipsters
  7. so they fixed this, that's good at least. nice quick response, still shitty drm
  8. thanks for the heads up this is why you don't do unnecessary things when you make games. you fuck up and get in big trouble.
  9. nsmb 2 comes out in two days here i'll let you know how it is
  10. i hope so, that was my biggest issue with the game overall. i could barely run it for more than an hour or so without my computer getting dangerously hot
  11. delaying zyra is one of the smarter moves i've seen in awhile good for them in recognizing a design flaw and moving to fix it *before* release
  12. so you can get what you already have everywhere else already. for only 100 dollars? what a steal! why make a console that does absolutely nothing new and limits the kit to pretty much indie only. who is going to make money off of this? indie games can't pay big licensing fees and selling hardware while making no money off of software is terrible business. i also see no future in this. anyone who is a gamer and wants this already has it. it's cool to see it in a neat little package but any established gamer is not going to spend 100 dollars for the same low budget games he/she already likes. and already small and taking-a-risk indie developers aren't going to put their game to pasture on the smallest possible market. who wins here?
  13. it looks to me like they made mk10 and put dc characters in it which is fine by me it looks real good
  14. i looked through the thread it definitely said next patch though it could be some form of like 'oh yeah not THIS next patch like the NEXT next patch' tomfoolery edit: that's adon not sagat. though they do look similar. that skin and the mundo one are clear copies i wonder how they get away with that. not that i care i like it but i'm surprised they can swing it
  15. http://na.leagueoflegends.com/news/zyra-rise-thorns-revealed THAT is what i'm talking about when i say creativity. first day ip purchase.
  16. it's literally the exact same game.
  17. eve, twitch, xin reworks next patch some plant lady that looks dangerous best patch 2012
  18. yeah i get that. so where are the nice people? like literally all i want from this is someone to tell me i'm wrong and show me *HOW*. it seems like the people who have been a part of the metal community agree with me, such as: those both seem pretty concise. yes. that is definitely the point of this conversation, he really shouldn't have been able to. so WHY with any other genre of music does this type of thing not happen? yes people have died at other concerts, absolutely, but come on if the status quo at a metal concert is to run into the middle of a brawling crowd (a.k.a. moshing) it really seems pretty pointlessly violent. metal concerts are meant to be out of control and dangerous by design.
  19. thats what i just said the guitar is awesome without the terrible ideas associated with it. i mean hell even if you read the commentary of the incident provided by OP it's a bunch of people being like 'the lead singer viciously protected his territory, beating up the plebians while performing. it was awesome.' being a fan of metal does not make you that, no. but if you consider yourself part of the larger metal community that says things like this: then i worry for you. clearly that faq is not 'absolute truth' anything that sounds that stupid is opinion and not fact. but it's an opinion that attempts to generalize for the whole. like i'm actually asking you here, set me straight. if you give me something that's like 'look here metal people are thoughtful people who do positive things' then i'll go away. despite this:
  20. edit edit edit: i probably am derailing this thread and it's sad that a young guy died sorry for his family's loss. having said that... i'm quite well versed in metal culture. and in this band in particular. none of this is surprising to me. the fact that metal music considers itself theological in nature is also, as a note, bullshit. also as a note metal's connections with white supremacy and neo-fascism (while primarily in the realm of death metal) disgust me. let's take a look at some choice ideas coming from the metal camp. and another gem: nice work there. honestly i would love metal if they just took out all of the terrible lyrics and ideas and just left in the awesome guitar shredding edit edit: i actually made a point to go do some research to make sure i'm not on the wrong page with this metal stuff and i'm even more right than i thought. 'traditional' metal is an inward-thinking, bigoted society of people. i seriously hope that someone can point me to resources that prove me wrong, i'm actually getting kind of upset about how terrible it is a community like this exists anywhere.
  21. metal divided by chance of metal fans being mature (or having any sort of common sense/idea of how to be a normal human being) = impossible. because there is no chance. they go to metal concerts. edit: in order to only half start a flame war instead of the whole deal let me say i'm very open minded about music and have listened to my fair share of metal when i was younger, but it comes down to being loud for loudness' sake, with some pretty okay guitar skills masked by distortion. that and the community is full of people who are like 'oh yeah hate so cooool.' of course metal bands and metal fans are going to do dumb shit they're way too caught up in being loud and disruptive and destructive to you know, use their brains when in the midst of it all.
  22. in that vein your diddy kong album isn't free anymore just a heads up.
