  1. I mostly listen to and make arrangements from video game music recently.
  2. Voted! And also listened to Supercoolmike's version - really glad to hear that one too! I like the deliberate, steady pacing with the beat & the synthy feel (quite similar to the FM-synthy sound of the original (at least the Adlib version, and the PC-88 versions of other tracks from the game I've been able to hear). I think this would've fit MnP very well. I liked the original bits & didn't think they were too far from the source material. The mix could be more balanced (more consideration for what's on the front, and what's on the background - generally it sounds quite loud) and I might have some specific nitpicks about additional writing, but overall, really cool arrangement! What a round! Awesome.
  3. Thanks Alex.. I'll have to admit, the drums are "just" a couple of drum break loops that come with Renoise, with not even that much splicing going on (though some, and some layering and variation later on, as you notice). I got an idea from your feedback, that it'd be nice to have the drums early on play with closed hihat rather than full blown cymbal crashing, but alas, it's not possible since these are prefab loops. Marked for mod review!
  4. Thanks for the review of Kaikuluotain - I'm glad you enjyoed it!

  5. Extending the timeline sounds good to me too - I'm definitely on board either way, though I'd appreciate a little more breathing room for finishing my tracks (not that my difficulties with finishing them had anything to do with the timeline of this project!)
  6. I couldn't expect less right... now.
  7. Getting some extra help from Jorito on our track.. international mega-collab!
  8. Put my tune up in Workshop, with slight tweaks. http://ocremix.org/community/topic/41381-xenon-atari-st-level-1-hajonta/
  9. This was a tune for Meat n Potatoes compo round 37. Source: https://youtu.be/lCNMufnJCuk Rearrangement: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zb25g7c2xb715vd/eino_keskitalo-hajonta-20150710-fc1.mp3?dl=0 Approach: Drum break samples, liveish guitar+bass, a sample of the original piece, 1 synth preset & arbitrary time signature trickery. I like the garage-y feel of the result. Looking to sub this to OCR, so comments to help with that appreciated. I'd like this to be a low-effort endeavor, so I'd rather not redo much if it can pass as it is.
  10. Good selection! Never heard of Chameleon Twist before; the tune is really good, happy and chirpy without being annoying.
  11. Yeah, Sunday to Sunday sounds better to me too.
  12. I'll def try to get my WIP updated by August 1st.
  13. That's good enough for me! "Secret Slowjam": https://www.dropbox.com/s/50tvk6wa74d2hd8/secret_slowjam-20150707.mp3?dl=0
  14. Well, I recorded the guitar, and I might add a bit more to it, even without extension (which sounds like a good & popular idea!) I'll sub a bonus mix at least soon (should really work on my project tracks tho!) The daughter helped out mapping the piece out:
  15. "Lurking since 1999" is pretty badass (even if paraphrased a little).
  16. Ahhh, I didn't realize the deadline was a bit earlier that I am used to with PRC (maybe because it's been a while since I participated?)
  17. Sorry, I've been trying to hammer out my track for VV3. I've made a little more progress on both tracks since I last sent WIPs though. I should be able to attack both in the coming weeks.
  18. I've transcribed some stuff on the guitar, hopefully I have a moment for recording.
  19. Not this fast anyway!
  20. I wish I could find the PC88 version of the tune(s), I'd be very interested in hearing the music in the original form. I guess I could try to pull out the Roland MT32 youtube links too.. both the Adlib and MT32 versions (just different sounds) are good to listen to. I'm partial to the Adlib version since that's what I've played.
  21. Hnngh, I hope I have a moment tomorrow to submit a token submission...
  22. Thanks for the comments, much appreciated likewise! I did start the previous day (figuring out the source on guitar & bass, drum loop "sequencing" and guitar recording), and thought it was total crap, but happily after sleeping on it I was able to glue it together (slap some more fx on the guitar, record bass + figure out the arp). Pretty good effort:outcome ratio for me still.. I'll see if I can polish it a bit (mixing, transitions and stuff and a bit more splicing of the drumloops) without having to spend a ton of more work.
  23. Man, that's a tricky track.. O_o;
