  1. it checks for unique usernames as well as IP addresses. the system thought you were trying to flood the server, so it stopped you. sorry about the mess, i haven't been paying attention to the forums much lately so i didn't know this PRC would be a special case. i guess it's too late for me to solve the problem? next time, just let me know what you need beforehand, and i'll make sure things run smoothly for you. cheers.
  2. so when you say: it'd be just for the lulz?i can't conceive why anyone would want to get behind that. i guess it's just too awesome for someone like me to understand.
  3. why does it need a term? it's still the same thing as being a producer or a composer. and even if some people on random forums agree on a term, it's still not going to merit any sort of lexical acknowledgment. this thread is futile at best, and insulting to all the musicians here at worst.
  4. ah, you can always tell an analoq fan by their complete lack of shame. anywho, i'll give you a quick answer: i do like the Mackies. i can't say the 624s at home are spectacular after using the 824s in a studio. but considering every pair of monitors under $1000 are compromised in some way, they are impressively unforgiving in their representation of your mix. (i.e. way flat) the MKIIs should be even better in this regard, i got mine before those came out. i'm sorry i can't speak on behalf of the Dynaudios, i've never auditioned a pair. cheers.
  5. imagine a scantily-clad Wendy Carlos popping out of a novelty-sized cake to sing you a sultry rendition of 'happy birthday'... thru an analogue vocoder. happy 29th you old fuck. (:
  6. entry size limit says 6 MB on the submission form, however the actual undocumented limit should be 10 MB. how big is your entry, anyway?
  7. yeah, the pool was at Trenthian's. hahahahaha... larry, make this my photo on my remixer profile. i'll never get a bad review again if people think i'm-- err i mean, since i am a handicapped musician who needs a breathing tube. woe is me. awesome pictures, GT. this certainly captures the look and feel of the west-coast scene (for better or worse..) cheers.
  8. if this is my last post on OCR, it probably means i died at the meetup. see you guys tomorrow.. i will bring talkbox or maracas or something to make noise with.
  9. i remember PRC #1... because i participated in it. looking over the list of entrants, i'm probably the only one who knows PRC still exists. so, maybe i'll see you guys for #100.
  10. there might be something free out there, but i haven't looked. however i can recommend some solutions cheaper than Battery: iZotope iDrum - $50 pattern sequencer + trigger + samples & sequences LinPlug RMIV - $150 drum synth + trigger + samples & sequences i own both and they're both very good at what they do. cheers.
  11. if you're not using them now and aren't going to need them soon, you're probably never going to need them. i 'downgraded' from a MOTU 828 to a Yamaha GO46 and i am a happy camper. edit: Nicholstein .... do you have any idea what you're talking about?
  12. wrong, you don't need a condenser mic; dynamic mics are great for recording horns. above claims about dynamic responsiveness should be ignored as well as they are way overstated. really, your pre-amp is what's going to make a big difference in how hot a signal you can get. the SM57 needs a strong pre-amp, and those dinky USB things tend to be underpowered. that said, your recording doesn't sound bad. realize that the sound of your sax is different right out of the bell than what you hear while you're blowing thru the mouthpiece. just throw your bread and butter (compression, eq, reverb) on it and mix your other tracks accordingly -- you can make it work.
  13. i owned a PCR-M80. it's a fine Roland synth-action keyboard. i prefer the joystick to separate pitch/mod wheels. Virt owns one as well, i believe. my only qualm is that it's ugly-looking. don't buy an Axiom just because of so-called "semi-weighted" action. best thing to do is drive out to a music store and see what feels better to you -- don't rely on marketing terms. other than that, it is nice that the Axiom has integrated trigger pads. i had a Korg padKontrol that i liked, but it was hard to find desk space for it.
  14. do you guys think it would be better if ORC had a monthly schedule of some sort? any ideas would be welcome.
  15. who's having problems logging in? i know some aren't having problems. i don't know, if you're having problems logging in try clearing your cookies.
  16. i was able to vote fine.. what's going on?
  17. a pair of saw fifths might make sense, but maybe it's just a name. better idea: post a sample of this sound so others know what you're looking for.
  18. i made some changes to the session subsystem so that it won't keep making you log in. are you still having this problem? there were some hiccups but it's been working fine for me and apparently Nutritious. i uploaded your official entry regardless, so you have nothing to worry about either way.
  19. yo: the worst is when amateurs (ReMixers) try to make their music as loud as the professionals do. unbearable ear fatigue ensues. just remember, folks: volume knobs can turn in more than one direction.
  20. that is certainly a point of view i can sympathize with.. i work full-time or longer so the only way i can participate in ORC or PRC is by making a token effort. 'course my music is admittedly lo-fi regardless, but i do try to avoid the 1-hour OLR DoF stylings when possible. ah well, a shitty compo is better than no compo at all.
  21. i haven't checked on this thread in a while, just want to say thanks ! i do hope to have more YouTube ventures in the future.
  22. yeah, your profile will show your voting history. that's currently the only way to verify your vote was accepted, you guys might want to check that next time. if there is a problem trust i will provide the remedy. a pulsating rhythmical remedy.
