  1. Meh, it's not all that great, don't worry about it.
  2. Don't worry, not everything I do is chiptunage extravaganza. Just some of the stuff that I've posted here (Laguuuuuuna!!1! By the way, saw your version on R:TS - neat name btw, stinky ). This song just felt like it needed the 9-bit revamp, to me (considering the 8-bit sounded so awesome, making it 9-bit would be even more so). Drums will certainly have a little more strength (I haven't separated the snare/bass/everything else channels at all, yet), but only a little. I'm not trying to have a driving drum track in this one; I tend to have that in virtually all my tracks, so I'm taking a short, short break so I can do something different. Drums need variation, for sure, since it's all copy/pasta, atm. All in the plan, man. I know the squeak sound you're talking about. I use it all the time, and it always seems to bug someone. I dunno, I just like it, for some reason. Always have. I might tone it down a bit, but not much since it helps balance the crunchy sounds that occur in the left ear. It's too short 'cause it's not finished, bro. It'll probably clock at about 4+ minutes, when it's said and done (which could be in a day or two, really).
  3. Sure, why not? Seems to be the flavor of the month, so I decided to join in. Slowing down from my normal frantic musical pacing, this one is a pretty minimalistic & chill 9-bit remix (can't say if it's '9-bit' enough, but I love that genre name). I haven't posted anything in a good while, now, so may as well. http://www.box.net/shared/nxibqfiok2 If you hear some Nespus influence on this one, I'll admit in some way's I'm blatantly ripping him off, but what can I say? His mix was freakin' awesome. I don't care, and neither should you (seriously, though, check his mix out, too - it rocks). Crits? Gushing praise? Tell me that there are too many of these mixes around? I'm happy with any any feedback, so post away.
  4. OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG Megaman Soccer track. You immediately get props for tackling this underappreciated game, here. Well, let's see what we have, here. Frankly there's a lot to like about this arrangement-wise. Unfortunately, the production doesn't seem to back it up, quite yet. The samples are oftten not good (those saws and squares, along with the fake guitar, and those pads are a bit weak), the bass track is very hard to hear, and the drum track is quite hard to pick out, there. The mixing is a bit sporatic, there - the melodies get thrown to the back, the bass is mixed so far back that it's hard to even hear it. The textures seem to take the forefront, which is a bit backwards. Be sure to mix things into their proper places - melodies in the front, the bass should be loud enough to hear, and the textures, while neat, need to be in the background. Not a bad track, but there's a lot of room for improvement. Great source, though - people need to hear more MM Soccer, here.
  5. Bloodlines, woot. Hmm... Hard to say about this one, but it doesn't seem to have much personality to it. The slap bass, guitar and choir are really neat, but the other instruments (pads, organ, drums) seem bland and uninventive, to me. The instrument choice just doesn't lend to making the listener engaged, imo. The soundscape is alright, but there seems to be very little in the high range, giving the overall sound a muffled feel. Something in the upper range would help nicely, or a boost to the highs in the master EQ. Something to give that nice shimmery feel. Conservative, but that's not a bad thing unless you're trying to get on OCR. I liked the source, so I guess I like your arrangement, as well. Overall, not bad, but not catching my ears, atm. Production is pretty nice on this one, though.
  6. This sounds empty. There's a bass that's prominent, the drums that have a non-filling pattern most of the time, quiet leads... and that's it. Slower music needs the space to be filled out better, and the textures to be treated differently. Right now it just sounds like you slowed down the original a little bit, which feels alien. If you're going to slow it down, make sure you make the parts around the themes fit the slow mood. The leads and counter melodies should be mixed to the forefront a bit better. More importantly you need something harmonically in this arrangement that fills the soundscape, here. It just feels incomplete without some background harmonies and textures. The source is sweet, so I hope you get going on this one.
  7. 'Still'? You imply that this was the way it was some time ago. Pics or it didn't happen... With all the sexual tension in this thread, I think pictures of that would be quite fitting.
  8. Alright, the little ditty with the Deus Ex remake was pretty fucked up. Yes, my spirits soared for about two seconds, only to come crashing down hard. Otherwise it was great.
  9. I'd love to, but I already took a last minute track, which is more than enough for this project
  10. Be patient. It normally takes roughly three months just to have the track reach the J's. Then it takes about a month more for them to respond. That's how it's been for a while now, so it's nothing personal. Welcome to OCR panel, folks. Give them credit, though, the job isn't an easy one to do, especially not as a volunteer. EDIT: Totally ninja'd by Fishy.
  11. Two days! Great to see Chroxic on board with it, but it'd be even better to see someone else join on the fun, here. Let's end this compo with a competition at the end with two or more participants!
  12. To be fair, I didn't know about his other stuff (you know, other than the OCR track). That's a fairly sweet Lufia track he's got goin', there.
  13. I wouldn't know. I really haven't been able to get into the most recent generation of games, unfortunately. Perhaps I'm easily impressed.
  14. The genre is a bit tired, imo, so I'm not really 'pumped' for it. However, that trailer should get awards for being the most experimental VG trailer, the most depressing trailer and containing the only CGI moment I've seen where for a moment I thought it was real (the eye in the beginning was pretty damn impressive). Very nice trailer.
  15. You wanted to break the overbearing praise here tastefully, eh Snappleman? Listening to it, I've got to be honest - the remix is on the bland side, here. The samples are raw and... not too high up there, on the quality scale. I personally love the slap bass, though. The production is not up to snuff, here - there's quite a bit of clipping that's bringing down the quality of the entire track, here (especially with that piano - that clips like no other). Turn down the master track and/or the limiter you might have used on the master track so the sound stops pumping when it gets too loud. There's no real creative liberty on this track. That's not a bad thing, really, unless you want to submit to OCR. Still, rearranging it to make it your own would improve this track quite a bit and help remove the 'bland' quality it has. The percussion is pretty strong in this track, I'll give you credit for that. There's a hat that sounds a bit flat/uninteresting, but otherwise the rest of it is really neat and well placed, and sets the track on a strong foundation. It's not bad, but it doesn't have much to make it stand out, either. I'd like to hear it stand out. Also, YT will compress your track and add artifacts to it. Please provide an Mp3 link to your track using a free hosting site - that will help people comment on the production end better. Good luck.
  16. Cave Story? Nutritious? I'm sold already, and I haven't even listened to it yet. Alrighty, let's see what we've got. Not a bad start - I like the atmosphere you set up, here. There's a whole lot of anticipation for somethng that's going to blow me away with that string/woodwind combo which normally anticipates 'EPIC' in movie soundtracks. Then that pretty weak synth cramps the climax. I see you anticipate that the synth(s) will need some work, and I'm here to emphasis that they need work . They're generally far too thin and simplistic, for the buildup that you gave. The synth at 1:44 would be a pretty awesome breakdown if the synths before it were thicker and had more punch behind them. The drums work sonically, but the pattern is bland. I'm sure they're filler, right now, so I'm guessing you know that already. The snare doesn't mesh well with the rest of the track, in my opinion. It seems to take too much of the mids and leave too much space in the highs, I think, 'cause it seems to be cutting into the track a little. The overall soundscape is a little thin in the low & high area. This'll probably be fixed when you fatten up the synths, though, so it'll most likely fix itself. Be aware of it, though. Great source, and I hear some sweet potential in it. Best of luck to ya.
  17. Well best of luck to you - it's not going to be easy, at all. There might be a run back to the boss or two, but if you kill one boss or two, they stay dead after, so it's not completely hopeless. I'm rootin' for ya.
  18. Well, what are you going to do at the boss? If you die once you have to beat those levels all over again. That would not be a good thing for you.
  19. It's an interesting take on the theme, for sure. It's got a way to go, I suspect, but it's a good start. The claps are quite high-heavy. Combined with the heavy reverb it muddies the upper range of the track. You might want to either reduce the reverb or lower the upper-end, there, so the rest of the instruments have some high end head room. The soundscape sounds hollow. You seem to skimp on the lower end of the track, so it sounds incomplete. If this is building into a more fully developed portion of the remix then I could see it working as it is, but as a whole the soundscape isn't filling out. The ending... well, everyone else nailed you for that It has an interesting sound to it, and the textures/instruments are cool. It sounds like you could expand the source considerably more, though. Nice, but it doesn't sound finished to me, quite yet.
  20. Well then I better fix that, I suspect.

Oh yeah, don't forget to submit something to the Caption Contest.

  21. Fun, smooth and original. A bit dry, for my tastes, but that's easy to work around... Wait, this is supposed to be a remix of the FFVI Owzer's house theme? I really don't hear it in this at all. I hear a snipit in there, from time to time (and those snipits clash with the rest of the soundscape something nasty), and something in the beginning, but this track has very little to do with the original track. It's a neat, interesting track, but it's not the Magic House from FFVI. I've been shot down with tracks less liberal than this one with the J's, so I don't see this one passing due to lack of source. It's not a bad tune at all, don't get me wrong - it just doesn't sound like a remix of that source. It sounds like an original with some of that track sprinkled in there, for good measure.
  22. No, I love them too much. Just yet.
  23. Ooo, not a bad concept for an album. If I joined right now, though, I could name... at least five people that would stab me for it, lol. It's an intriguing idea. Shame I can't participate, just yet.
  24. Wow, that's amazing. It's great to hear something like this in the Grammy awards. Maybe I'll actually watch them next year because of this
  25. Bumping because it fell off the front page. Hey peeps, I understand that you all can be busy and such, and that there are quite a few projects and such to keep you busy, but unless you want to see this unique compo disappear for a good while then you best participate! A bad month is not all that big a deal, but three months straight of no entries (and two months beforehand of single entry compos) is simply asinine. I don't know if this compo can survive another month like that. This is a unique opportunity to have your own music remixed by other people in this community, and it'd be a shame to see this compo die off like this. I've seen artists like Willrock and Protodome get their start here, and others like JerryTerry and... well, myself, that have gotten better and better with every entry here, so that goes to show that this compo can do you some good, if you're willing to participate. Seriously, though, give this compo some love. You don't know what you're missing, here. We've got a week to do something for this - I'd be all over this right now if I could be, but I can't since it's my source(s) that are up. Let's bring this one back from the brink! Go go go!!
