  1. I don't think Bayonetta was supposed to be any trend-breaking gurlll or anything. I see her more as a bunch of garbled fetishes morphed into one character. Luckily for us she is in a fun action game. Would we reeeally care about her or call her different if Bayonetta sucked (lolpun)? Anyway, I am echoing Alyx Vance, because you really DO care about her throughout the HL games (like that moment where she hugged you in the opening bit of E1, for example) and come to really connect with her as few other NPCs are capable of achieving. She is indeed a fully-realized character. Also, Samus, because i am a Metroid fanboy at heart and I have to give a shout-out. There's not much I can say about Samus that hasn't already been said. SHODAN is an interesting choice... She's a layered and insane character, for sure, and definitely brings something memorable to the table... Not sure, since she is a villainous psychopath super-computer afterall. As for what -I- prefer? Well, I said I'm a Metroid fanboy, and I gotta say that that model is always a good thing if used right. One extreme that I'd like to avoid is like the female characters in any David Eddings' novels (read them!!!!) where they are so strong and independent it just seems that no matter what the guys do they are pretty hen-pecked all the time (kinda makes sense considering Dave's wife was a major contributor on all his books). Don't get me wrong, they are entertaining, funny, and incredibly likable (except for the psycopath adolescent queen in The Elenium who has the hots for a 40-something-year-old...), but hen-pecked is NOT something I want to experience in the virtual world, because in that circumstance it's annoying, plain and simple. In the game, even if you are following orders, YOU have to be carrying out the major actions that advance the plot and/or gameplay. In that sense, if the woman is an NPC, she needs to be helpful and useful, first and foremost. That gets a gamer's respect right away when he doesn't have to babysit an NPC through the game. If you ARE the female character, understated attractiveness is welcome. Nothing too obvious (like Alyx Vance or Jade), but it's definitely there at the least. In terms of character, she's in a game, so she HAS to kick lots of ass (whether that be in a FPS scenario or a puzzle-game scenario), and beyond that, go for something likable and believable, because that's what we empathize with most in a game character is their humanity, moreso than their eccentricity (depending on the mood of the game).
  2. Well, I gotta say that I'm pretty excited. One of my favorite game OSTs, and one of the first games that really made an impression on me as far as music, graphics, and whatnot go. Can't wait to be able to torrent it (can't right now).
  3. It's in a game and it's music, isn't it? Get to work guys. Abra-doo, this one's for YOU.
  4. More accurately, the entire translation of Final Fantasy Tactics. My favorite: -When fighting your eldest brother, Dykeberg, the mission objective flashes up, saying "Defeat Dykeberg's older brother!" Also, the other I remember most clearly was Mustario (sp) saying something along the lines of "I can't stand those hypcritical arisscrats!" Looks like SOMEONE didn't read the OP.
  5. Look up gamesradar.com's feature... I think it was called "The worst NES endings ever" or something like that. Tons of hilarity.
  6. I generally do not like young kids playing online games. This is mainly because: everyone, including me, was annoying at that certain age, and it was bad enough playing in the basement of the house with stuff like that. However, the only way playing online with 12-year-olds becomes annoying is when they either A) are admins, or use mics. If A is true, then B invariably follows, though B doesn't necessarily need A. But both are still incredibly annoying. The high-pitched voice and over-reaction, as well as not-developed sense of humor (I'd know, I remember what I was like in junior-high) all contribute to the general dislike of young online gamers. I mean, there's a reason that high-school freshman are always picked on, for the most part. Because they are 13-year-old butt monkeys.
  7. Any Wily Stage in any Megaman game for the most part. The Aw Shit moment is usually upon going to the next screen, and seeing a bunch of shit that ISN'T the boss door. 5 points extra if you see a bunch of spikes. Fffff....... Also, in No More Heroes, the Aw Shit moments are usually during the boss fights when you have about 3 pixels of health left, or less, and you are carefully and painstakingly whittling away say, Bad Girl's health. The mega FUCKKKKK moment comes when she's just about dead and then flame bats you to death. Oh, and big time right here: Whenever a member of your party dies in Fire Emblem. Especially at the end of a particularly grueling stage. Tell me that last one isn't true.
  8. Man, I want my HD sequel! The first was what it said it was: an "interactive novel" more than a game proper. When you look at it that way, the 'game' is more enjoyable, I think. I must have played/'read' it about 4 or 5 times. It's just a fun story.
  9. Good friken lord these Wily stages are ball-busters.
  10. Sounds like a glissando to me; just not with the classical string get-up.
  11. Playing through this game, the only thing that strikes me is that getting a game over does not remove your items, like in previous games in the series. That surprised me, and makes me think that along with the plentiful screws (which also retain over game overs), the game might get a shade easy in that matter. I still am getting a shitton of game overs, but I have a bunch of energy tanks, and it's always good to have those half-shock things handy. The music is pretty damn great.
  12. I just don't know how it could work though, with it being both cooperative AND fun. I'll wait and see. And here's to hoping to, you know, Episode 3. A morse code message translated as EP3, as a friend of mine pointed out on another forum. Then again, another one translated as LOL.
  13. mario's motivations are unconvincing and lacking
  14. Well, everyone's played Goldeneye, and thus, everyone knows what the Golden Gun is all about. At least, I hope so.
  15. The real question is "How many remixes will this games' soundtrack get due to the hype?"
  16. Or you can just listen to some more of the experimental rock or something... See how they do things. While I love classical, it's by no means the only default musical education device.
  17. Really liked the choice of leads/synths, and I liked how it got increasingly fast-paced. Chiptunes can be worked into anything with enough thought, says I. All in all, I rather liked this, and exceeded my expecations. As far as submitting goes, you'll probably be panned by some for staying too conservative, but at the same time, this is really well put together. Good job; this is great!
  18. Solar Man, Pump Man, Chill Man, Strike Man, Nitro Man... Those are all pretty bitching tracks, from what I've heard. I haven't played yet, though I plan to download soon enough. No More Heroes 2 is a first priority buy, though. ALSO IF YOU DON'T LIKE EASY YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T PLAY EASY I MEAN COME ON WHEN THEY FIRST SHOWED OFF EASY MODE THEY WERE REALLY TRYING TO BE FUNNY AND I THINK THAT WAS THEIR INTENT AND IT TOTALLY WORKED BECAUSE EASY MODE LOOKS HILARIOUSLY SIMPLE Also, a guy I know from another forum wrote a review panning the game because "it didn't connect to Megaman X; the story sucked." I was like "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
  19. Well, I never approached making music in FL studio as making beat-based music, etc. I just wanted to get my musical ideas in a tangible form, in whatever program that was (be it Sibelius, FL, etc.). I treated the piano roll kinda like staff notation, and I went from there (though the graph is kinda easier), and made up drum patterns on the fly by experimenting. But yeah, I guess the advice is not to approach the DAW with a singular mindset, that being what you expect the program is 'used for' or whatever. Just push the musical idea you have into concrete form.
  20. Have to admit, Rozo, that this is a pretty bitchin' track. My only desire and wish is that it could've been 10 minutes long; it feels like it ends too soon. Great minimal stuff.
  21. Yeah, I was going to suggest listening to a lot of Duke Ellington, or Count Basie and his band, and seeing what those two guys do, considering for the most part they are the best of the best when it comes to big bands.
  22. Damn bitchin' good stuff. Majora's Mask needs a lot more love, and this be a step in the right direction.
  23. What kinda sucks is that they are remaking Lufia II, an excellent game with great music (which in and of itself is a great thing), but that they are remaking it into a 3D action game. :' (
  24. The Damned now has more power than the judges themselves. I call conspiracy!
