  1. Finally, somebody handles this source right! I was worried during the first ten seconds but you certainly kicked in the awesome after that. Kudos on the wicked guitar soloing around 2:00 (and after). It sounds a little off around 2:45 but my sound card is iffy. The break for sound effects is great. Very nice work. What are you using to program/mix this?
  2. Agreed. It feels like a Metroid Maridia mix, with that incessant foreboding. The change at 1:20 feels natural (love the swim noises). This is so... weird. But so good! I'm thrown off (in a good way) by the minor notes in there. What source is that around 2:25? Paper Mario? As if this couldn't get better! Good ending too. Overall, amazing mix. It's fresh, fun, and familiar. Gold star for you. Nice work, chumble spuzz. (this was followed by the main theme to Mario Paint... awesome)
  3. Ooh! Funky! This is great. Of course, I'm biased in that it's a LoZ3 mix. The arrangement is very interesting and lively. I enjoy the fact that it could stand on its own even if you don't know the sources. Nice work.
  4. Love it! The Bowser themes were always among my favorites from Mario 64. It's quite epic. I love the pizzicato strings around the two minute mark, followed by a very prominent and well placed flute. I think the harpsichord works well but I'd really like to hear an organ version if you follow Audix's suggestion. Looking forward to the update.
  5. Hello, all! This is my very first WIP, "Today", a remix of the daytime House theme from Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility. I was going for a country kinda vibe but... well, I'll let you make up your own mind. I will forewarn you that this is a very rough version. It's missing a lot of parts (backup vocals, bass, percussion, solos, etc). Also, it's a little quiet as I'm still working out the levels in Audacity (if you have suggestions of a better free program which I could use, please let me know). Here's the source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrWcIU2_9EY&feature=related And the remix:
  6. I grabbed this one after hearing Strike of the Devil's Axes and was thoroughly impressed. This song is all over the place, covering so many different styles, but tying them all together beautifully. The guitar work is incredible. I love the acoustic/phaser section at 3:00 which slides into ska. The screaming dual guitars at 4:38 send shivers down my spine. I have to agree with cloudkitt about the air guitar factor. And that's the best rendition of FF victory music I've ever heard. Can I get that as a ringtone?
  7. You would think I'd have asked this question already: Veteran Gamer Opinion Poll #7 Assuming that you visit OCR for the music and not just the forums, what is the main reason you download a ReMix? a) the source game the genre c) the remixer d) it's random e) I download it all! Vote and be heard! Results in a week or so. PM me if you have questions or ideas.
  8. I despise all of those things. Especially the lizards chucking axes. Definitely cheated to get through that game. Likewise. I keep telling myself I will, but Robotnik thrashes me 80% of the time in level 1. I just can't hang onto those rings...
  9. Very cohesive, with all the parts complimenting each other. I don't know how you crammed all of this Zelda goodness into six minutes, but it works beautifully. Nice work!
  10. Nice work, sephire. Always a fun learning experience. I have to say this was enlightening. It seems so intuitive but I've never thought about choices vs. decisions in terms of gaming. Certainly gives me a different perspective. Oh, and labeling Inky and Clyde = hilarious.
  11. The last poll: Veteran Gamer Opinion Poll #6 After years of trying to break in the gaming industry, or simply daydreaming about it, you are given the opportunity to work for your favorite developer. They are planning to hire game enthusiasts as the leaders for creating a new game. Since you were chosen first, you get to pick your position. What role would you prefer? a) producer - oversee the creation, progress, and marketing of the game designer - responsible for the overall look and feel of the game c) artist - make the game come to life in shape and color d) composer - give the game its soul and ambience e) writer - develop the plot and characters f) programmer - make it work Here's how you voted: a - 5 votes (23%) WINNER! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> b - 4 votes (18%) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> c - 1 votes (4%) >>>> d - 5 votes (23%) and another WINNER! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> e - 5 votes (23%) yet another WINNER! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> f - 2 votes (9%) >>>>>>>>> A three-way tie this time! I suppose it was bound to be close due to the number of choices. Still, it's great to see the creative interests of OCR. We have some very talented people here, and they are not limited to music. Brand new poll tomorrow! Questions? Comments? PM me!
  12. That's just cruel... and awesomely hilarious. The only Metroids I could get into were Fusion and Prime I, though I beat Super Metroid, just to finish it. I cannot beat Castlevania (Simon Belmont, you weakling!). At least you picked a good Mario platformer to beat! Augh! Not Monster Party! That has one of my favorite quotes of all time: "Sorry, I'm dead." I hate to admit it, but we sold Ducktales, Blades of Steel, and Bubble Bobble. I am sad that you can't play Gnat Attack. Let me know if it helps you beat Bayou Billy. Or even Robocop, Kid Icarus, and The Last Ninja. I can't get anywhere in those... I think it's a fear of this which kepts me from beating FFVII, Earthbound, and Dragon Quest Swords. I used to hate the Sega commercials which contrasted the number of titles for Nintendo and Sega. "But all those games stink!" I used to shout. That game is ridiculous. I get so lost and then get destroyed by the swamp boss. Here are a few more of mine: I liked FFVIII (which I beat) better than FFVII I gave up on Metroid Prime III (deleted my file, even) when I found out that there was a "protect the people" section of the game. What's the point of that? I'm the hero! Everybody else get out of my way! Stupid Galactic Marines... And my brothers and I used to wait 'til our mom was out of the room and put Mario or Link (both N64) in a near-death situation which would require expert reflexes to avoid. We were mean like that.
  13. Amen to that. Sadly, I have to say it was much the same for me. Oh, and I've only beaten two MegaMan bosses, once. No, not the games, just the bosses.
  14. Um... I wasn't quite expecting this request, but I. Thou shalt not cheat. II. Thou shalt not use player's guides or walkthroughs except as a last resort. III. Thou shalt not disrespect the system of another while secretly desiring it. IV. Thou shalt not play for someone who is taking a bathroom break. V. Thou shalt not steal lives or items in a two-player game. VI. Thou shalt finish each game that thee starteth. VII. Thou shalt not fling thy controller across the room, no matter how frustratingly difficult thy game might be. VIII. Thou shalt watch quietly as others attempt the most simple and mundane levels, battles, or puzzles and not shout out the obvious method of completing them. As I recall, these were first promulgated during the 8-bit era, yielding one for each bit. Of course, there are slight differences among users of different systems, but, for the most part, they tend to agree. (thanks, Overflow. But now they are not unwritten commandments! What have I done?!) Here's another of mine: I had to use a Game Genie to beat Zelda II
  15. That's a trump card, right there.
  16. (Hmm... it's a rainy Thursday... time to shake things up!) Most of us, at one time or another, have violated the unwritten commandments of gaming. You know, "Thou shalt not cheat", "Thou shalt not play for someone who is taking a bathroom break", "Thou shalt not fling thy controller across the room, no matter how frustratingly difficult thy game might be" (Bayou Billy and The Cheetahmen excluded from that last one, of course). So what do we do to relieve our guilt? Those dark secrets have burdened our souls for too long, I say! It's time for some group therapy. I'll start this off. Hi, my name's glasfen, and I got to the Northern Crater in Final Fantasy VII but didn't finish the game. (Gasp!) How about the rest of you?
  17. Because of the singles or the entire albums?
  18. Thanks mucho! I always appreciate feedback. I'll take a look at your resume and see what I can do. But seriously, thanks for the votes, folks. I'll total it up tomorrow and hopefully have something new shortly thereafter.
  19. Evanescence's The Open Door - known best, perhaps, for "Call me When You're Sober" while the rest of the album has a very different, more personal feel than the radio-friendly single. Seal's Seal II [1994] - all you may know from it is "Kiss From a Rose" but the rest of the album is an incredible amalgam of musical styles and poignant lyrics. Big Country's The Crossing - my favorite album (and band) of all time. The only song which made it States-side of the Atlantic was "In a Big Country" (some of you 80s buffs may recognize it). Good thread, RealFolkBlues.
  20. I'm so happy to hear this update! Finally, the missing chorus! When I read that you had added new effects to the last update, I was afraid it would be too much. But I am obviously a fool for doubting your genius. The back-up harmonies and layering (as far as emphasis) are excellent. It sounds beautiful and I love the high-pitched vocals at the end. Great work, A-B. What are you using to record this, by the way?
  21. I was blown away by Dragon Song and The Freedom of Zero but this is a totally different kind of awesome. I love the live feel (a la Springyard). It sounds like the style of Steve Conte to me, which is great. Excellent work!
  22. Very nice. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to play these tunes on a zither.
  23. Hmm... Nice mix of answers so far. Of course, I thought there would be more musically-inclined folks, but it's great to see the diverse skills of OCRers. Thanks for the posts!
  24. Holy (insert ska band here)! This one takes me back. Phenomenal blending of instruments. I don't know how you folks do this. It's like a brassy energy drink! Great music.
