  1. Hey Orrin! That's an interesting view on how to approach music, and one I'd agree with and probably follow myself if I had the slightest skill in arrangement/composition. I'll be looking to hear what music you put up in the Workshop sections. Welcome! Hello and welcome, Harold! I can relate to that experience that school band can give you; I played french horn from fifth grade through my senior year of high school, and it definitely opened up my ears to new types of music that normally I would've ignored, or disliked. I'll be sure to swing by your Youtube and give it a listen to. Always good to meet a fellow fan of FF7's music and of epic orchestral pieces, IceFlame. And don't be afraid to ask 'stupid' questions at OCR; I've asked plenty dumb questions in my time here, and have always gotten pretty good, helpful answers. A hearty welcome to all three of you!
  2. This is a really well-balanced "competitive" Remix; I didn't feel like either source was overpowering the other in terms of usage or presence, which is how most tend to make me feel. Definitely an energetic piece, in a very good way - I usually prefer chiller pieces for multiple listenings, but this is definitely an exception; I foresee many, many replays of it. Oh, and a belated congratulations on getting posted.
  3. Some songs have since been removed, as I recall; I know that's at least partially the reason. Lemme find the changelog for you. Found it right here. I'm sure staff can give you a more in-depth explanation. Hope that helps though.
  4. Seconded wholeheartedly. Just one quick thought: If an unposted, unpassed musician with track(s) on the panel posts a Kickstarter they're directly involved with in the thread, and one of their songs passes the panel before the Kickstarter ends, are they allowed to make another, separate thread for the Kickstarter, seeing as they would then be a TBP artist?
  5. Sucks for us listeners. Although I'm really happy for you that your hard work is paying off! Actually, I'm really interested to see what music gets produced from this one; it's bracketing a time period that I've never really had the time to look into the music of, right before I started gaming on the old IBM my dad had in the basement when I was growing up.
  6. You might look into this thread for further info. Or this one. My understanding is - short version - they were avoiding doing anything of the sort for the longest time because they thought it would encourage people who might otherwise be unwilling to give dubsteb, or electronica, or orchestral, or whatever kinds of music a chance, to listen to everything. You know, if you can't search by "death metal" then you have to go through song by song, and might discover a chill techno piece, or cool spaghetti western, as you went that you otherwise would've never bothered to look for. Dunno what the current staff thoughts on the matter are now, though. EDIT: Whoops - looks like Amph beat me to it while I was finding the other two threads, and with more updated information than what I had. Go with what he said.
  7. Gonna go see it tomorrow with the wife for our first "married date" - excited to finally be seeing it.
  8. Quite possibly one of the coolest Remixes to get posted in a while, IMO - really inventive and interesting combination of genres. Love the whole piece, although there were a few points that stood out to me, like the quiet section ~ 1:15-1:31 which made me think immediately of Minecraft's soundtrack. Instant d/l.
  9. Definitely some good stuff (even if I only got to listen for ten minutes last night). Kudos!
  10. Congrats on getting posted Rockos. As to the mix, it's definitely an interesting take on the source - I don't think I've ever heard anything vaguely like it. The reverb actually didn't bother me in the slightest; it felt like it fit in with the overall tone of the track's direction. In fact, I'd almost say I think I'd enjoy the track less if it had less reverb - almost makes the character of the track.
  11. *cough*YoushoulddoFFTacticsthen*cough* ...I don't actually have anything pertinent to the thread to contribute, aside from regret that the project's apparently dead. I was looking forward to having TWO awesome FF6 albums at my ears' disposal.
  12. Very nice work, all around. Definitely be listening to these songs for a long time.
  13. Clearly, I do understand that it's most likely going to be entirely in-house. That doesn't mean that I'm also blindly accepting that there isn't going to be a staff shake-up (whether because Disney intervenes (which I doubt), the new prez changes things up, or people simply decide that now's as good a time to jump ship as any) of some kind over at LucasFilms, or that Disney might deviate from their practice of allowing studios to run themselves for the most part. Until more time has passed, we can't know for sure. Do I think either of those will happen? Not really. I honestly do believe that Disney will treat the Lucas properties like they've treated Marvel, and if they do, I'll have no beef with them. But it's impossible to know for sure based off of one press release (which is basically what it was) within 24 hours of the event. Again, if Disney treats LucasFilm/Arts like they've treated their other purchases (Pixar, Marvel) then I won't have any issue with them. If you notice, the majority of my post wasn't accusing Disney of messing up the series (although I did point out that Disney's sci fi movies tend to be bad, I will admit), it was me pointing out that most of the story options in-canon that are worth exploring (Thrawn trilogy being, in my mind, the best of them) are going to be hard for them to pull off, because it HAS been 20 years and the actors show their age, and because Harrison Ford has multiple times said he wouldn't play Han Solo again. You're right on the second half. But you can't deny that Disney seems to be going on a bit of a "let's buy up other studios" tear lately, which EA has (unfortunately) been doing a lot of too. Which is the only part of EA's practices I was comparing it to.
  14. Quoted for truth. Honestly, I accepted long ago that what I truly long to see happen for Episodes 7-9 - the Heir of Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn made into movies, with the original cast (including Harrison Ford, which would require an ungodly amount of money being thrown at him since last I checked he's intensely against ever reprising Han) returning - will never come to be, so unless Disney manages to somehow pull that off I'm going to be hugely disappointed anyway. But even so... with the exception of Wall-E, I can't think of a really, really good sci fi movie Disney's made since the early '90s. Still, it sounds like they might be letting it remain entirely in-house at LucasFilms, like they've pretty much been doing with Marvel, so there's a chance for something decent. I'm just really, really bothered that they already have a release date set for 7... something about it strikes me as off.
  15. That, or convert it over to some sort of website, maybe with web show content. I mean, the original idea of the channel - give serious coverage to the cutting edge in technology and entertainment, with an eye toward "geek" culture - is a great idea, but most people get their info on that kind of thing online now. If they could switch it over, maybe take it in a Consumer Reports direction but with an entertainment element, it could probably still work. As it is now, though, you're right - not much point.
  16. I think this is why it bothers me, more than anything. I agree - for the most part, the shows were giant commercials, but at least they talked about gaming, and occasionally had good reviews/segments. At least back when I watched (2005-2007) they did. But seriously, without this, what else is the channel going to have? Based on the last season, they already lost half of the rights to Ninja Warrior to... CBS? Or NBC? One of those. And that was the only other show on their station I actually enjoyed. Oh well.
  17. Just happened to run across this article during my web perusals today. TBH, I'm not sure how I feel about it - I haven't watched either in the longest time, but I did actually vaguely enjoy the shows back when I watched. Thoughts?
  18. The fiancée has apparently had this lifelong dream of going as the kite-eating tree from Charlie Brown, with someone else going as Charlie Brown holding the string of the latest victim. So we're going to a friend's party as that (her tree, me Charlie Brown) this year, so that she can say she finally did it.
  19. They're all so good. Which I'm not complaining on in the slightest, it's just making it really tough to vote, lol. But great work by everyone!
  20. ^ this. From outside the project, it's seemed to me it's progressing about as quickly as can be hoped for, especially if you're trying to produce quality music - you rush something, you get rushed product. I mean, I'm as anxious for this album as the next guy - it's probably my most anticipated album in the works on OCR right now - but I'm more than willing to give Fishy and the excellent talents working on it more time if it means more awesome FF9 music. (Especially considering - looking at the database kind of confirms this - that FF9 doesn't get much love 'round hurr otherwise, normally.) It'll be done when it's done, and will be all the better for the extra time spent on it.
  21. Excellent news! Glad to hear this is finally done with. Props for all the hard work it took.
  22. Seconding these. Also, Mass Effect 2 & 3's soundtracks had some truly memorable tracks on them; there's at least three that I find myself humming in the car or while working on something totally unrelated. (I'd say ME 1, too, but that'd be on the edge of qualifying as recent - depend on your definition of "recent" I guess.)
  23. I believe you're right - I think I read that somewhere. Oh, and figured out how I missed this when I d/led the album... apparently, the track got corrupted in the d/l, and I never noticed.
