I agree, the name is kind of a loser from a marketing standpoint. When you have to explain how to pronounce it you lose steam imho. I really don't like the layout either - it looks like a wall of advertisements to me. I will say though that the predictive text is nice as well as having the option to click to the next page without having to scroll all the way to the bottom.

OCR TF2: New Server forthcoming - new server IPs and other stuff
starla replied to Bahamut's topic in General Discussion
2fort is fun for about 5 minutes, then it makes me want to kill myself. I can't explain it - it just stops being fun after a while I had a lot of fun last night, we had a really great talkative team until i got autoswitched for balance i was right in the middle of the scores too, i thought that it only autoswitched people that hadn't been there for a long time or had lower scores or something. Is there any way to manually change teams or move people around with admin powerz? -
The deadline has been extended 1 week to allow for more entries. Please note that multiple entries are allowed, if you have one please contact me because the system doesn't allow for immediate duplicate uploads from the same user. The best way to get me is on #ocremix on irc.enterthegame.com. Thanks!

TF2 samplepack compo up in this -
This week we will be holding a special compo. The theme is a samplepack containing all the sound effects and voices from Team Fortress 2. Please be aware that there are a large number of samples and going through them may be somewhat overwhelming - which is one of the reasons why this compo will be open for one week. Starting this Sunday, you may begin your song. Please have it uploaded by next Sunday, August 3rd by 9 PM Pacific / Midnight Eastern. The samples are graciously provided by Xerol. Complete Pack tf2_all_packs.zip 44.9 MB If you prefer not to download the whole pack at once, below are the individual components. Individual Packs (11 files totalling 44.9 MB) tf2_announcer.zip 3.73 MB tf2_demoman.zip 5.36 MB tf2_engineer.zip 3.71 MB tf2_heavy.zip 9.41 MB tf2_medic.zip 4.75 MB tf2_misc.zip 169 KB tf2_pyro.zip 1.10 MB tf2_scout.zip 3.65 MB tf2_sniper.zip 5.17 tf2_soldier.zip 4.55 tf2_spy.zip 3.25 You may use your own samples in addition to this set, and you of course don't have to use all of them (considering there are 1,780 files total). You must use at least one sample in its entirety. Here is an example: When your compo is complete, you may upload it to http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/OHCTF2. Good luck!

Zephyr~, I'm sorry to say that OHC Thursdays just didn't generate enough entries. The best turnout is usually on the weekend, which is likely what I will be permanently moving the timeslot to. Are you available Sunday night 6 PM Pacific / 9 PM Eastern?

Compo tonight at 6 PM Pacific / 9 PM Eastern!
starla replied to starla's topic in General Discussion
The compo is done for tonight, thank you to everyone who participated! -
Today we will be hosting a themed one hour compo at 6 pm. Normally I don't release the themes beforehand, however this one has me very excited to hear the final entries. Todays theme will be "The Weather Channel," as suggested by Xerol. You will have one hour (starting at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern) to complete a song fit for use as music on the weather channel. Songs ranging a few genres, sometimes jazz, sometimes piano or something just generally chill, this background music is played while a gentleman tells you about your local forecast. The following page will become active as soon as the compo begins: http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/OHC015 Originals are encouraged, but remixes are welcome, especially for this theme - more elevator music remixes would be fantastic! Come join us for discussion at #thasauce on irc.enterthegame.com. Everyone is welcome to participate in the compo, from newbies to veterans! For some examples, you can check out some of the older compos. I loved the result that came of last weeks theme (Robot Master Battle), check it out here: http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/OHC014 Mods, please feel free to move this thread to compos once it is completed, I posted in gendisc to try to get the largest audience. Thank you!

Durable, high-capacity hard drive, and questions thereof

The calvary one looks like 2x500 not 1x1000. Watch out for that one. -
Game music that resembles mainstream music (or vice versa)...
starla replied to SwordBreaker's topic in General Discussion
^That's the best roboroll i've heard to date. There are some similiarities between the intro to the original Metroid http://youtube.com/watch?v=s1GxznTaiwI and the guitar parts from The Cars - I'm Not The One -
OCR TF2 Team: Gametime 9 PM EST on OCR server MWF + some weekends

Glad to hear it, i've played on a couple servers that do sudden death and it's definitely fun. -
Software controlled drives store the RAID information on the drives themselves, whereas hardware controlled raid will have the configuration on the hardware (the part that blew out). This means if you try to make these a software RAID, you're gonna have to reformat them first, which will make recovering off of them even more difficult. Software RAIDs are nice though, because technically you can pretty much plug them into any computer and the RAID configuration comes with it, so you can access them even if your boot drive fails. You might have some luck at getting another identical unit and trying to replace the drives, this will work so long as the partition table was not damaged when the board blew out. You also might be able to find software that will be able to recover the data, but usually with RAID recovery it might get a bit more difficult since it might ask you to provide parameters on the RAID stripe size, offset and other information. If you still can't get it after these solutions, let me know and I can call a data recovery friend for you and try to get you hooked up with a remote recovery (not sure how much he would charge for it.)

Need a good and free* program to make a drum line.
starla replied to L.T.W.'s topic in General Discussion
You can export (but not save) in the demo of FL studio. This works if you're mixing the whole song in something else and can use an exported wav or mp3. -
This is actually a pretty easy fix. Once you get the back off (you'll need a special tri-wing tip screwdriver) then you open it up like a taco - the screen and buttons will be on one side, the guts like the circuits will be on the other. There will be a ribbon cable to disconnect the two sides (this connects the lcd screen to the motherboard), then you can pull the lcd out of place and replace it with a new one. Be aware that you have a very high chance of getting dust in the screen, and the cost of buying a used old school gba will likely be less than the cost of a new lcd screen plus shipping.

insert/delete space doesn't shift all automation
starla replied to colinjstewart's topic in Music Composition & Production
Yeah, at this point you want to do one of two things: the new way is to create automation clips (you can right click on whatever you want to automate - volume, cut, etc and hit "create automation clip" which you can then use in the playlist. The older way is to do it in a pattern with the event editor and then you can repeat this pattern sure, but you will still want to use the playlist. This can be more precise if you want the instrument to do the same thing every time it plays in that pattern. I suggest looking at some of the sample songs that come with fruityloops to figure out how to use patterns in the playlist correctly. I understand that most people coming from midi or mod type programs are used to having one single pattern that plays through the whole song, but with fl you have a straight visual interface where you can see what patterns are playing when. Hence, fruityloops. http://flstudiowiki.com/FLStudioWiki/index.php/Automation_Clips http://flstudiowiki.com/FLStudioWiki/index.php/Playlist -

How is your song organized? Are you using patterns in the playlist? -
Are there any games you guys play over and over again?
starla replied to atmuh's topic in General Discussion
Megaman 2, Final Fantasy Legend I and III, Seiken Densetsu 3, and Starcraft. I've played a couple games through once or twice but these have infinite replay value for me. -
All is over with, results can be seen here: http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/OHC013 Mods, feel free to move this thread to the competitions forum. Thank you!
