Happy bday! Hope you get tons of presents.

The marathon was pretty cool. Punch Out, Mega Man X race, Super Metroid race and Chrono Trigger were incredible. It'd be amazing if OCRemix managed to support the marathon somehow, like giving physical albums as donation prizes or something.

wip Chrono Trigger - Boss Battle 2 Remake
jnWake replied to skyrimian's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
You can tell if your song is clipping if it sounds so ridiculously loud that it even distorts a bit. Sadly, that happens a lot in your track. It's a nice remake, but it definitely needs to be softer and make better use of dynamics! -
finished Super Mario World - Ghost House (House Remix)
jnWake replied to Mykah's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
The shape of the sound wave is amazing haha, with some imagination you can picture a couple Boo there. Anyway, I feel most of the comments regarding the song have been said already. Kick is too loud and makes listening to the rest of the stuff very hard. I also think you should layer the sample that plays the melody with something slightly more understandable (and also something that fills the right channel!). -
Games you are excited for that release in 2014

Smash 4 (because it's Smash!) and that X game (because it's an JRPG and I love them) if it gets actually released in 2014. -
Pikmin 3 and the Phoenix Wright series are my standouts. EDIT: Oh.. Umm.. Reasons! Well, Pikmin 3 is just great. The graphics are beautiful, the music is pretty and the gameplay is great. It's a bit hard to explain so you just have to try it yourself, but please do! It's an amazing game. Phoenix Wright. Well, this is a somewhat popular series I believe. I had never played a PW game but I recently got an iPhone so I tried (and beat!) the HD trilogy. What can I say, the music is great and the cases are really fun. Characters are awesome and the games have a lot of funny moments. Also a must play!

Haha this seems like a nice chance to remix a short jingle (you know, like game over tunes or something)- -
finished Mega Man 8 Frost Man Theme Remix
jnWake replied to djsatsui123's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Kick has a lot of reverb and it kind of eats a lot of space. Bass and snare suffer from that. The mood of the remix is quite cool though, I like the synths you picked. For bass you should try a sample that has more legato between the notes. As timaeus pointed out, the drum is very weak in sequencing. Snare and hi hats sound very mechanic, with the snare in particular doing quite a weird rhytm job. Overall, the synths are cool and along with the arrangement you managed to create a nice mood. Drums just need a more focused sequencing along better mixing and you'll have a pretty cool song! (If you also make a proper ending instead of a fade out it'd be cool too ) -
finished Brutal Mario - Super Mario Bros theme gone black metal
jnWake replied to Flavien Morel's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Yeah, the rhytm guitars are eating the rest of the instruments too much. It's hard to figure out what the organs/strings are playing. By the way, the string sample seems very bad! In any case, you transformed the song nicely to black metal. So if you fix the mixing I'm sure you'll have a very nice song! How you incorporated the Underground theme is great! -
finished 'Mystical Caverns' [Mystic Cave Zone]
jnWake replied to wch090's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
For such an aggresive kick you surely picked a bland snare sound. Seems a bit odd to me. The lead synth that begins at 1:15 is very loud and quite annoying really. Personally, the arrangement feels a bit messy to me. It barely makes any sense, and the muddiness of the mix doesn't help. You can make something interesting from this, just try to focus it more. -
If that thing is a new move for Zelda, then I hope Sheik is a separate character since I love Zelda's current moveset (if I can't spam Din's Fire I'll never use her again!). Besides, Impa has appeared in many Zelda games so she'd fit as a newcomer.

Intro cutscene for Donkey Kong looks so good. And the music... Man this game will probably have a ridiculously good soundtrack. This game has got a lot of hate but the intro cutscene makes it look like a very inspired game, not some quick crash grab or something like that,
