What's really interesting is that the idea to master the whole album was shot down by G-Mixer because he didn't want anyone messing with his limiter  It's a great album anyway.

Welcome to the Album Thread for Final Fantasy VIII: Collision Course.

The concept for this album stretches back to 2010 where a tracklisting and title were chosen for what one would have
dreamed would be a great Final Fantasy VIII album. With your help, I'm hoping to make that a reality. Right now is the
recruitment phase, so if you are a posted ReMixer, feel free to make a claim -- first come, first served on any source.
If you are not a posted ReMixer, you are still welcome to join the album roster if you can produce high quality mixes, or
are capable of producing a high quality arrangement and structure, then delivering your stems for mixing/mastering.
Please submit an audition. Mixing/Mastering would be handled by me for anyone who requests it.
There is no genre restriction, however please give much consideration to preserving the spirit of the source.
tldr: first come, first served for posted remixers
other artists, please submit an audition!
    mixing/mastering available on request
if it's an emotional piano source, I reserve the right to bounce back your gangsta dubstep screamo mix
Also if you're going to claim something like The Extreme, keep in mind it's gotta be excelsior

    More or less.

Dronebone, I totally get what you're saying in that it could be improved. The production could have been better. The four live performances could have been better. If the five of us were to get together and make a remix now, we could probably do something that sounds much cleaner, much more professional.

But here's how I see it: listening to music doesn't always mean listening to pristine studio recordings; sometimes it means listening to your buddy's band rock out in his garage. Do they sound as pristine as what you hear on the radio? No. But does that at all detract from the fun? Not at all.

This wasn't "let's sit down and make the best damn remix ever" sort of thing; it was more like "hey, we got five remixers here in Andy's basement, so let's throw a track together." It was a jam session between five buddies.
It is entirely possible that my perception of this remix is biased by the fact that I consider that jam session to be one of my most treasured memories, but when I listen to this track, I wouldn't change a single thing. Not one waver of Jill's voice, not one aspect of Andy's production, not Mike's cheesy lyrics, not Steve's 3AM rapping, not my off-rhythm guitar playing, not one single thing would I change.

If I were in Taucer's shoes, I wouldn't want to change much either; there are five collaborators, so y'know, it might be best to just go for as good as you can manage without pulling some of them in for more and more fixes.
That aside, I actually haven't heard this since I heard zircon's Phasma Elementum, which was like, 3+ years ago (when I heard it, not when it was released ), so let's see.
Yep, Jill is still killin' it with her tone, and she only got better in the later years. Shonen Samurai makes it sound somewhat parody-like, in a good way. Almost talk-like, but not like he wasn't motivated, and not so flat that it felt unenthusiastic. A bit more like he maybe didn't understand the message of the song but wanted to sing it as well as he could anyway. Sure, I can see sometimes the lyrics are trying to fit into a large number of notes (yet a short time span), but it's not "phoned-in at best" or even "cringe-inducing". At worst I'd say it's occasionally awkward, but clearly not so bad that they might as well not be there...
As it stands, it's right on the edge of the typical production standards in 2006 IMO. Maybe it wouldn't pass today, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it should have been further revised before final submission in 2006. Still holds up well today, and well worth listening to.

This assessment could not possibly be further from the truth.

As for the rest of the post, I'm sorry you didn't like the song. It is, looking back on it after ten years, probably not up to the standards that any of the five of us would shoot for if we were to make it today, but if I were to go back and redo the song all over, I wouldn't have wanted to do anything different.

Black_Doom reacted to Digital Coma in OCRA-0002 - Donkey Kong Country: Kong in Concert
    Hi all,
This is Digital Coma, the "director" or organizer for this album. It's been more than a decade since I was last involved in OCR and Kong in Concert feels like a lifetime ago, but I thought I'd drop by and say a few words after all these years.
It's pretty neat to see that KiC still has an audience almost 12 years on. Looking back, it's safe to say that I didn't always know what I was doing with what was to be the follow up to OCR's very first remix album. We did things on the fly, we struggled to put together a team, and there were plenty of mistakes made along the way. But what started out as a small summer side project with no lack of naysayers and haters ended up a surprisingly big hit, and in the end we had a solid homage album whose impact in the community I'm happy to see continues today.
I won't say much more since I like that there's some legend surrounding how everything came together. But I do want to give thanks to everyone who's enjoyed the music over the years, and a special thanks to the remixers, djp, and OCR for making it all possible.
    Cheers,
    DC

Hello!  You saw my take on these over at the RadioSEGA forums, so you know I'm on your good side   However, two things I should just point out really quickly:

    1) What do you mean by "recognized by Sega"? I've done some google searching and the only main promotions I have seen have been exclusively you posting it on various Sega fan-sites.  I don't even know if Sega themselves shared it themselves or not, but from what I have seen, there doesn't seem to be any evidence of that.

    2) Take note that if you submit the vocal covers to the OC Remix judges, they would be instantly rejected due to just using the original recording and singing over the top.  I say you should consider this set of covers as practice for when you start performing them on top of other backing tracks, whether made by yourself or produced by another arranger.

You did however showed me you're able to make arranges of your own, so I'm optimistic that you'll be able to keep pushing them up to that same level.  Just keep working on new stuff and learning from each one, and everything will be alright

    SONIC ADVENTURE ALBUM PROJECT

    Hey guys, Tuberz here.
I grew up with Sonic the Hedgehog in 3D and I don't think I'll ever be able to forget the incredible adventures involved with... well... Sonic Adventure.
As one of my favourite games of all time (and with a bitchin' soundtrack) I figured it would make sense to start a project for it.
    So, well, here we are.

    What do we need!?
I'm glad that you asked that! We'll need musicians who are either interested in providing music or collaborating with someone else to provide music. This music will be arranged from the source material in the Sonic Adventure OST.
We'll also need artists and web designers and all that jazz down the line, but for now, the music is the core component.
Not all tracks on the OST will need to be taken, I'm interested in having at least one piece of music from each 'Zone' taken.
I'm adamant about the character themes and battle themes however. The Chao music is not needed, but would be a valuable addition.

When do we need to be done by!?
Another excellent question my friend. I'm not setting a strict final deadline for two reasons. The first one is that it's a fair ways from a major milestone anniversary for this game, therefore we should take our time and make every inch of it something we love.
My second reason is that I prefer an atmosphere which is inspired by art... rather than deadlines. Some people produce excellent tracks in a week, and some it takes them months of slow chugging. Neither is wrong. I want to cater to both of these kinds of people.

    How do I sign up!?
Just flick me a Private Message with which source tune you're interested in, if you'd be open to a collaboration and any key stylistic points that you feel will come out of your track (This will help me get a vibe for what you're aiming for).
If you are a posted mixer or I know the general quality of your work I'll let you take the claim no issues (probably(don't quote me on that). However, if you are unposted and I'm not familiar with your work you can either send me something that you've done which you are proud of... or a general WIP of the source tune you're interested in claiming and we'll work from there.

    What's your role in this!?
Well, I'm the guy who gets to eat chips and tell you if you're slacking (I kid).
I'm going to be staying in touch with people on the reg to check in with how tracks are going and help out with pairing collaborative partners or giving possibly influential content for when you're stuck in a rut. I'll also be taking some tracks myself.
If you run into any issues just flick me a message and I'll deal with it ASAP.
I'll also be pooling my resources (read:lack of resources) to find another content evaluator to ensure that we get a diverse range of opinions on content.

What are there so many Exclamation and Question marks!?
    !?
