  1. For any who are still wondering when the clck runs out. Its very close to or exactly at midnight on the 23 in the eastern US. I didnt bother to convert fractional hours back to seconds.
  2. People have already mentioned Finale and Sibelius, which are great but will cost you a fair amount of money. Hunt down noteworthy composer through google. Similar program (though not quite as good) You can get a free demo for a pretty long time as I recall. And I don't think buying the actualy program was very pricey either. Though I'll forewarn you its been a number of year since i used it. So I may not be exactly right.
  3. Man, I thought he was going to live forever.
  4. to pick just one I was playing through link to the past for the first time at the ripe old age of, oh about 5 years old. I got to the armos knight at the end of the first real dungeon. Shot my arrows into the first five of them, only to have the last one turn red and start chasing me. You want to give a fiv eyear old an anxiety attack...thats how. Still that was nothing compared to the realization that I was out of arrows and down to my last heart. Being a little kid and pretty much petrified of the last knight it never occured to me to get close enough to use my sword. No no no. instead I spent what felt like hours running around the little room chucking the level one boomerang at it trying not to get hit. Eventually it finished him off though. Definately one of the most stressful and as a result rewarding early game experiences I had.
  5. I echo everybody that has said there is no specific sound fitting of a rogue. Its all in how you write and deliver the sounds that give the peice the character you're looking for. And also when i think of a rogue i dont think sneaky stealthy hiding in the shadows, necessarily. I think of a rogue as someone who is completely alone whose enemys are everywhere, if not everyone. He (or she) is fighting his own battle for his own reasons usually whiel a much more powerful group is trying to stop him. stealth may be necessary for survival but i wouldn't think of it as the primary characteristic. Thats my two cents on the definition I also agree that a spanish sounding peice (fandango maybe) would work well. It'd be very distinct from the other pieces, and it can certainlylend itself well to conveying the rogue type character for whichever aspect(s) you choose to emphasize.
  6. Hahaha Fantastic This community is all about taking something and turning it into something unique of your own, and you've hit the nail right on the head. This was increidbly entertaining listen. Love the Thriller, and Never Gonna Give You Up nods.
  7. I'm pretty impressed by this. Its a VERY different take on theme, which is always nice to see. Unique as far as ocr as a whole goes too. My only two negative comments are: The brass sounds really thin. There's no real substance to it. There's a guitar ( I think ) that plays hits that kind of kill the feel of remix. They don't seem to fit. Admittedly though thats a matter of opinion. Anyway its first entrance is at 0:54. on the subject of the brass, if you'd like, I can probably record it live on a trumpet when I get back to school in mid Januray (long wait i know) keep up the good work. I'm interested to hear how this one turns out
  8. Haha, My bad Animae. I actually missed your post when i was reading through. Didn't realize you had already mentioned that video.
  9. a lot of songs use the same chord progressions, and frequently similar rythms. Its just coincidental, not necessarily a ripoff. In music with a lot of long tones (like the two themes in question) the similarities just become that more obvious. Still, its usually just a coincidence. with all of the music in the world, there are bound to be similar songs. for example... all the buzz around this song aside, its a good example of the same kind of similarities
  10. Nice job with the update. I like this much better. I hear what Rom Tom is saying about the low strings (cello?). I really like what you have the cello doing, but as it climbs to higher pitches you lose your foundation again. Definately leave the part you have now in, but maybe have a string bass playing as well. Give it a technically simpler part (maybe tied whole half and quarter notes), and when the cello climbs, take the bass lower. You may also want to raise the volume on the lower parts some too. The high parts cut through much better so the low parts seem to be on the quiet side. And carry the low parts through the end. other than that. the violin( i assume thats what it is playing during much of the second half) has some sound quality issues. it sounds very clipped and mechanical. You may want to try to make it sound more human and lastly, the very last note could be little longer (maybe twice as long). as it is there isnt quite enough time for it to resolve. It feels cut off. great work on this. I'm looking forward to the next update.
  11. I really like the direction you've taken, with the exception of the drum part. They don't seem to fit, and honestly I think they kill the feel you've established up until that point. Its up to you of course to decide exactly what you're going for, but I think it woudl be great to get rid of that drum part, and where it enters, continue to expand the instrumentation to full orchestra. As it is right now, once those durms come in the melody becomes quite repetitive. You could take the melody in some different directions and without too much trouble reallly build up a sense of grandeur to the whole mix. lastly an overall comment. You're very much lacking in bass parts. the remix feels very top heavy and somewhat foundation-less. I'd really like to hear a bit more of a lower part. Even something as simple as throwing in a string bass on a low note in the strings chords would make a world of difference. Again, I really like what you've done with this so far. Can't wait to hear an update.
  12. Go for it! You're still quite capable of learning and instrument and becoming very proficient. In fact based on some freinds of mine, people who pick up an instrument later in life tend to get through all of the basic stuff much faster than those that start very early. As with most things, though, how much effort you put in will dictate how good at it you end up being. So definately give it a shot. I agree with the other guys in that you should learn the instrument you like the sound of. Listen carfeully to the kind of music you like and try to identify what about it you would really want to play. That should help you pick an instrument. I doubt the hands jittering thing will be a problem. There really aren't too many instruments where you have to sit with your fingers perfectly poised. my hands shake all the time and it has never been a problem on any instrument i've tried to play. and lastly , I echo whoever said look at lessons in college. If you go to the music professors, often they will take on students who are no tmusic majors if they have time. and even if don't, they will be able to point you to someone else who can help you out. And as you seem worried baout the cost, ask about renting from the university. Most universities have instruments that they will rent to students on a semester by semester basis, and its usually very cheap. (The music department here at Virginia Tech charges marching band members 1 dollar, and not much if any more to non-members.) Good luck
  13. Unfortunately I couldnt get mine finished in time. Research work all came in a sort of flood yesterday. I will finish the track eventually, though, and it will remain dedicated to the original intended recipient(s). All the best on your road to recovery bLiNd!
  14. Well, I was not planning on lyrics... There are still a number of ifs in the whether or not I can put somehting together at all department. But if i do manage to get it done, I will make sure both your and Jordan's names are in it in some way shape or form. I have some ideas for it right now and i'll be spending the rest of the day working. We'll see where I get. Reserve Tank: VARIAtions gets my stamp of approval as well.
  15. Going to try to get a mix of Galactic Warrior together. A lot of things need to fall in place just right though, so we'll have to see if I can make it happen on time. I like both reserve tank and energy tank, and the remixes thus far have been excellent [EDIT]: The VARIAtions idea is good too
  16. Remixing is not something i've ever put much time and effort into, and as such I do not have the skill set to get one together. Still, I'd like to offer what help I can. I've played trumpet for 12 years and I have access to a recording studio. If anyone would like a live trumpet part for their remix let me know. I should be able to make it happen.
  17. These are two verses I've always remembered: "Amen, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Mt. 18:19-20 "Be still and know that I am God." Ps. 46:10 Stay strong. Determination to recover will help immensely, and prayer works miracles. excessively long post as this may be, I thought of this also. Its pretty well known so either or both of you may have seen it, but just in case Footprints in the Sand One night I had a dream-- I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord and across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints, one belonged to me and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that many times along the path of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life. This really bothered me and I questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way, but I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. "I don't understand why in times when I needed you most, you should leave me." The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never, never leave you during your times of trial and suffering. "When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
  18. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Jordan. I've seen some pretty amazing medical miracles in my family, friends and myself over the past few years. I'm counting on one for you too. Keep fightin, bLiNd, we're all looking forward to your next remix.
  19. Interesting. I actually lived in Bettendorf, IA for about 7 years. mine's pretty self explanatory, or at least what I was going for with it. NintendoAce was a screen name I made back in 8th grade. Ended up using it in a few places. It has an underscore here because I originally registered as nintendoace and for whatever reason was never able to access my account, so the underscore got added when I signed up again. Junior year of high school though I decided I wanted one without an obvious meaning and I've been using that new one for everything since then (about 5 years).
  20. seconded Those characters account for two pieces of entertainment that I won't miss at all.
  21. I'm very impressed by this. Without a doubt one of my favorite zelda remixes around. The samples are quite good (though i'd still kill to hear this played live). And I'd have to say i really like the arrangement There's a lot of contrast to be heard here, and these are probably among the smoothest transitions or any orchetsral remix on the site. Your choice in themes to incorporate is also spot on for creating the zelda atmosphere. This medley of tuens doesnt really walk you through the story, nor tell you about a piece of the story. Rather it seemes to string together themes from through out the series that just scream zelda. Which is perfect for an overture. and If i'm not mistaken I hear The main theme, hyrule feild from Oot, the trailer music from twilight princess, and mosty suprisignly the bonus track from twilight princess. And dont know if its your intention or not you have segments of your piece that sound very remeniscient stylistyically of minish cap. Excellent work. Can't wait to hear more of your stuff.
