SPOILERS: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Wintermute replied to Zombie's topic in General Discussion
I for one liked the last chapter. I was worried that we would never get a chance to see Harry respecting Severus for everything he did for him, and as Severus is my favorite character in the series, I was glad to see that the final chapter was really, in its own way, about letting us know that Harry truly understood him in the end. -
OCR01600 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Oil Ocean (WT-40 Mix)"
Wintermute replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Sequencing is good, but the lyrics in the rap are just a little too cheesy for my taste and the delivery reminds me C&C Music Factory: while this not technically a bad thing, it is in no way hardcore. -
Mmm... intentions aside, calling it "Super Colombine Massacre RPG" is probably the most inappropriate name you could have had for a project that is supposed to "open someone's eyes." It reeks of sensationalism, a nintendo-like (and thus kid-friendly) air, and general lack of taste. Personally, I'd say free-speech, sure, go for it. But is it cool to attempt to push on people in indie game contests? Not really, no. It's a publicity stunt designed to ride on the controversy of the game to spark interest in it, and when you're intentionally attempting to use a controversial subject to push the popularity of your own product... you can take that. I don't find it particularly strange that you'd play as the killers in this game, as that would be the most poignant viewpoint in a novel, movie, or other attempt at showing the situation. What I do find odd, however, is that I have not seen a novel or movie or any other production similar in message. Furthermore, making an RPG Maker 2000 indie game is hitting the audience of: Gamers. This audience likely already knows enough about the subject of bullying in schools from first hand experience, or at the very least knows what it's like and how bad things are in our schools these days. Preaching to the choir here. But yeah, badly named, concept is weak (like someone said earlier, these guys were screwed up, they picked up some guns and shot their school up. Examining the situation further would be a fine subject for a police investigation, but as an interactive experience created by a third party who likely knows only the facts that they want to include...) and the attention-whoring involved here generally put me off to the whole idea. Next time, try doing it with taste.

Wasn't the WWE just recently fooling around with some fake death plotline?
-
I found it rather surprising that Zelda: Wind Waker is on the Majority No list. Besides being one of the funner Zelda games to just pick up and play at a given time, it also has a very attractive style once you get used to it and the gameplay (while somewhat easy) is top notch. In fact, it was such a fun experience to "watch" this game because of its attractive visuals that my mother, who isn't a gamer of any kind, started enjoying watching me play the game so much that we began to play it together as a collaborative experience. If that's not a great game, I don't know what is.

OverClocked ReMix Content Policy - Final Enacted 6/12/2007
Wintermute replied to djpretzel's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
For the most part this seems like very clearcut, useful rules, many of which are aimed at protecting the work from wanton stealing, etc. I like it. -
I bought Vanguard on its first day of release, and here's my short review of it: PROS: Cool design, cool world, and love the ability to see forever. Probably the best race and class list I've seen in a MMORPG. Tons of stuff to do other than grind. CONS: It's not finished yet. Seriously. The game is buggy, runs poorly, and some of the content simply isn't there. Bottom line: Had it been released 6 months later, I would think it would be the best mmorpg released. Now we'll have to wait and see if it can crawl up from the beta release it got. I sincerely hope so, as I love playing it.

Good riddance. Hated this show ever since its first episode. Have only caught a few of them of course, but never enjoyed one. A perfect example of how terrible mainstream cartoons have become.. I think I'm going to go watch some Centurions or TMNT90s.

Mario & Sonic together in an Olympic Games title!!
Wintermute replied to carra's topic in General Discussion
I too hated Shadow the Hedgehog right from the getgo. However, I also consider anybody who is trashing this title right now to be, well... just rather sad. What's wrong with it? Go buy a PS3 and play some Resistance or something, smoking cigars and discussing how badass you are with your leather jacket. Mario & Sonic & Friends competing against each other in olympic events sounds like a blast to me, but then again, I don't own a leather jacket with knife gashes through it.. -
And you have just won the award for most assumptions ever made in a single post. Congratulations on your ability to read peoples minds over the internet, may it serve you well in your future asinine posts. Furthermore I completely disagree with Phantom of the Operetta. But I'm not gonna attack him over it.

I DM a Forgotten Realms D&D campaign for my close friends at college. Some of the funnest times I've ever had have been around that table, mostly because I DM a game that's very casual and oriented around having fun rather than number crunching.

I'm hard at work on my remix of Bonds of Sea and Flames, just to give you a notice. Kudos on the Flight remix too, excellent.

In response: I'm in. Got my eye on Bonds of Sea and Fire, gear style.

Remake: Kenna's Freetime as done by Myself
Wintermute replied to Wintermute's topic in Post Your Original Music!
It's a remake of a track by Kenna, on his album New Sacred Cow. -
Not sure how many are familiar with the original track, but I gave it a try. http://asuaf.org/~wintermute/music/Dan_Bruington_-_Kenna_Freetime.mp3 Hope ya enjoy.

Not sure if anybody's mentioned this and I don't have time to read the whole thread (heh), but the last boss of Snake Rattle 'n Roll on the NES is like a migraine.

OCR01485 - Secret of Mana "Dueling Consoles"
Wintermute replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Instead of lynching you, I'll go ahead and say that I agree with you wholeheartedly. This mix did not make it into my library for the exact reasons you've suggested: It didn't feel like the NES or the Genesis had their particular styles in this piece at all, but rather simply synths that emulated NES and Genesis sounds were used in a gimmick fashion. All in all, I'll say that the production was good and the arrangement was decent, but it did not hold my interest. -
Mmm.. I'd say Sonic is probably in. He's just a really obvious great choice. I'd like to see Little Mac from Punchout, he'd be quite a fun character introduction. I'm a stickler for old school characters, so additions like Pit (already confirmed) make me jump up and down and squeal like a little girl.

OCR01373 - Marathon "Neo-Pacificist"
Wintermute replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Marathon > Doom. I wish they'd do a new, next gen Marathon game. Screw Halo. Oh yeah, and about this remix: chill, beautiful, wins. -
OCR01350 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Memories Frozen in Time"
Wintermute replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I don't like rap in a general sense (with the notable exception of Prefuse 73), but this mix is hot. I found myself looping it for about an hour without even noticing. Great job man. -
OCR00110 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Chemical Juice"
Wintermute replied to Jivemaster's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there another Chemical Zone remix on this site at one time? I seem to remember it being my favorite remix on this site a while back, and I just recently went to download it again, and it wasn't there. or maybe I'm thinking of a different remix? Any other old timers wanna help me out? I seem to remember it totally fricken rocking. Not this remix, that is. -
OCR01202 - Zombies Ate My Neighbors "Neighburgers"
Wintermute replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Protricity's best? Definitely not. Good? I'd say so, if you're into really cheesy music. I mean, really, I'm never gonna listen to this for any other reason than 'Well, there's some game music I wanna listen to.' It's quite over-produced too. Don't get me wrong, the production is really really good, there's just... too much of it. Lost its human touch. Protricity's best? Try Brambles in the Breeze. That song blows me away every time I listen to it. And it isn't cheesy. -
OCR01170 - Seiken Densetsu 3 "This Heart"
Wintermute replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Don't really like the violin/viola stringed instrument at 0:58. Other than that, this mix is very good.
