  1. So, in my English class, we read Antigone. And one student wasn't sure what to do for the project we had assigned to us. So my teacher said, "Just work on your strengths, make a little game out of it." So he did. And I did the music for this small project. Just a title screen and overworld. But it was pretty fun. Here they are: Game Project Overworld Theme Game Project Title Theme Game Project Final Boss Just thought I'd share this fun little thing I'm doing.
  2. No problem, I'm sure when this reaches the judges it'll go in. If it doesn't, I'll be sad.
  3. I'm working on arranging something that started out as jazz, but eventually turned more and more funky, and I think it would suit me to have people that are more experienced than I help explain to me just how exactly to keep a groove interesting and going. The drums and bass obviously have a lot to do with it, but in a matter of complenting it with other parts I feel like I'm struggling with. Matching up the timings, sure, but any other advice?
  4. Hylian Lemon, you never cease to disappoint. I think it's coming out great so far. Definitely sounds like something that might come from F-Zero with the frantic direction you're taking it in (not to mention those sweet SNES-esque samples). I'm always a huge fan of your stuff and I don't think this will end up being any different. Or maybe the samples are more Genesis style now that I think about it.
  5. Alright, haha. I'll write you in on my brainstorming ideas page! I'll keep you updated as things move along. I play piano, so currently I'm arranging that and working outwards. Drums and bass after. Trumpet, horn, and sax now after those. I think that'll be it. Maybe I'll add guitar in there.
  6. Hey there! I'm currently arranging a jazz remix of "Break the Targets!" from Super Smash Bros. Melee, and I was wondering if you would be interested in doing some sax work for it? Right now I'm just taking a lot of time and putting a lot of thought into the arrangement process. But I think it would benefit me to have a sax. I'll probably also have trumpet and french horn.
  7. Ah, you know what, if this ends up happening, count me in. If you need a pianist.
  8. I know you didn't ask me, but here: https://www.musictheory.net/lessons Learning music is something that takes time. Time and effort. Especially piano. Piano, is in my opinion, the hardest instrument to master. But, that doesn't mean it's impossible. Sure, your stuff may not be great, but keep at it, and each day, it'll get better. If you have any questions about music theory, you can feel free to ask me. That's a personal invitation.
  9. Essentially. I play piano, so if I were to do something with that, say a chord progression or rhythm, or anything really. I'd play through it once, but then the second time I might change the voicings or switch up the rhythm just to make it less "the same as before." Just keeps the listener engaged, really. Looping stuff isn't inherantly bad, if there's something that needs to keep a certain rhythm or feeling/emotion. What I see, though, sometimes is just people looping something to get "more" song.
  10. My input: never, ever loop, copy/paste, repeat something for the sake of making it longer. Always try to come up with something new. Looping just makes things bland.
  11. Artists never get enough credit for what they do. I like this, this is really intricate and well made. It's interesting with all the different parts working together.
  12. In my opinion, brass and strings really don't sound all that great unless they're live. Plugins just can't get the quality and tone out of it exactly, I feel.
  13. @DJ H0us3C0rP3 So the delay you're hearing is on purpose. If I remember correctly, it's a cannon, when one voice plays the same melody shortly after another? Maybe I should take some reverb out there so it doesn't sound so muddy.
  14. I'm working on something new and I like how it's turning out so far. I wanna take this somewhere not wholly conservative lol. Most recent version: Source:
  15. I need a job so I can start buying all these VST's. This looks incredible.
  16. A helpful thing to note about mixing is that, you want everything to be balanced, but not TOO balanced. You know what I'm saying? Because if everything is at the same level, there's some frequency space power struggles. The soundscape sounds a little on the empty side. It's pretty conservative. Maybe you did, and I just can't tell, but consider using panning. It spreads things out and allows you to put more stuff in. Put stuff that's less important farther out, and stuff that's more important closer in. Visualize panning like a stage of musicians. Other than that, I think this isn't terrible, I like the drums. Although the snare seems oddly... Low power. It just sounds really disappointing lol. If I may ask, what instruments do you play? I'm just curious. I always find it interesting to see who plays what (I tickle the ivory).
  17. Ok, well, I'm better than I make myself out to be xD but I have some work to do lol.
  18. Aw man. I would really love to do piano. I'm not sure if I'm good enough though. I could get a type AB USB cable and probably record in Reaper. I just wonder if I'm good enough. I'll say, that while I'm still technically learning, I am interested, I'm just not sure how much of an asset I would be. I'm good with chords, though. I know theory pretty well. If you gave me sheet music and time, I could get it done.
  19. Oh but decreasing the tempo sounds so good and chill. Ah maybe it would work.
  20. @JohnStacy Also, if you were gonna record with me, I actually worked on arranging something tonight and now it's starting to take a blues/funk approach. Not sure french horn would work or not, considering it is a bit warmer, but I dunno. I don't know what else you play though, so.
  21. Oh man, that's awesome! Personally I'm a piano player, so I've got that all set haha. I've got a drummer, a trumpeter, a bass player, guitarist... Not sure if any other wind or brass players that I know would be willing to record with me, I'd doubt they would be. I'll get working on making a full arrangment in jazz form before I finish this version and I'll let you know lol. I think we've got a deal xD. I wasn't expecting this today lol thank you! Really!
  22. @JohnStacy First off, thanks for all the info! Very, very useful. Secondly, I did end up playig around with it and it started taking a different, but I'll probably make two versions of this to see which one I like better, the one I'm working on now. And then maybe a sole jazz one. Writing it out first would be much better. Lol, I've kind of just been writing stuff as I go, but I guess I should take it slower haha. I love insaneintherainmusic, been following him for a year or so. I do have a trumpet player at my disposal, but I do not have a french horn player. Although, I'm not sure what else he plays, but trumpet is certainly his most involved instrument. I think it'd be awesome if you would be willing to record something I wrote (I would just have to make sure what I write is actually good xD).
  23. So, I'm not close to being done, but I wanted some advice for instrumentation and to show the idea that I have down so far. Just can't let this sit without sharing it anymore xD. But yeah. What should I do for the lead? I could get live trumpet, maybe and do some harmony work on it and stuff. But I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do with this other than just, "Hey, jazz."
  24. I found this interesting lol I've never seen a METAL cover of K.K. Cruisin'. But hey, if the shoe fits.
