  1. Arrangement is fine but it's really dry and thin at points. The soundscape lacks depth. Needs work with levels and balancing. Some light, smartly applied reverb would help with the depth. Turn down your rhythm guitars and let the lead take center stage. Also, it's rather short, isn't it? There's some obvious skill here in the performance, I with there was more of it. Borderline NO
  2. http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3176349 HELLS YES
  3. http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2009/10/05/spoiler-alert-epic-november-issue-revealed.aspx Wow.
  4. No no no, vocals are okay when they are METULLLLLL. It's only when there are RAP vocals that people get angry because OMG RAP IS NOT MUSIC.
  5. Hey guys, let's stop making stupid arguments like assuming that we know the ages of other posters and get back to some civil discourse please, before I start handing out forum bans. Anyway I'd like to see Sawmill back in the rotation, maybe some CTF. I like that map.
  6. Don't force a scramble unless it's absolutely necessary. If you feel that the teams should be scrambled, go ahead and force a scramble vote and let people decide.
  7. Just wanna jump in her and point out the distiction: unless I'm mistaken, nQa is a gaming-clan. You guys play a lot of competitive TF2 and other stuff. That's like, your whole deal, right? OCR isn't a clan. It's a video game music and remixes community. The OCR server was started so that people who hang around on the forums and on IRC can play TF2 together. We don't have matches with clans or anything like that. Attempts to organize tournaments and competitions have not met with resounding success. People just throw [OCR] on their names to say "hey I'm from OCR and I like remixes" or "I like playing here." So no, it's not really stacking, because people who have [OCR] on their name have such a wide range of skill level and don't particularly play that well with other [OCR] folks, whereas people with nQa on their name are generally quite good and play very well with other nQa players. Last night was nice; about 5-6 nQa guys on the server with a fairly even split. Some good matches too. I could have done without the constant mocking of the server rules over voicechat (it came across as little rude), but it was mostly harmless so I didn't bother mentioning it. Also: hackpipes.
  8. Old Hindi film music from the early 90s reminds my of Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout and of Super Mario Bros. Level 2-1, mostly because when I was little my Dad would ask me to turn the volume down while he put on his tapes.
  9. Actually I'm just going to move this. It's not really clear what it is. The Competitions forum is for competition threads, not for really vague teaser stuff. If you want to make a competition thread for something, please make a post with actual details. Gonna move this over to Community, seeing as how it's got something to do with game remixes.
  10. I don't care that much about SF2 characters.
  11. Hn. As much as I'd love to see my beloved 3rd Strike characters (Ibuki and Makoto) in SF4, I'm apprehensive about how much they'll be changed. Like, what's the point in playing Makoto if they nerf karakusa or if she doesn't have Abare to Sanami? HMMMM
  12. I think it's good! I really like the source and you did a great job making a fun dance track out of it. The soundscape is nothing groundbreaking, but the texture works and the production is just fine. Piano is a nice contrast to the harsher synths. Good balance between elements. YES
  13. Not bad. I thought the guitars could've been crunchier, but that's just me. Percussion could use more variation too, but it's good enough for a groove, I think. The rest of the piece is sufficiently wicked. I dig the triplets. YES
  14. Lacks a little in the mid-range, but overall a pretty solid arrangement. The way it starts reminds me of a song from some PBS kids show from the mid-90s; take that however you will. Nice guitar work halfway through, and the synth that follows it is just great. Oh hey, there's a key change. Nice. I like it. YES
  15. Very nicely plays with a lot of elements of decisive battle. I really enjoy your expressive playing. The progression and evolution of this track is really very nice. It's liberal, but I think it works. YES
  16. I think this is pretty rockin'. It felt a little thin in the first half, but when those synths hit around 1:50 I was totally into it. Percussion work is great; really locks in nicely with the rhythm guitar. A lot of folks just put the drums on autopilot and wank over 'em, I like that you guys did a lot with them with ride and cymbal work accenting what's going on with the rest of the piece. I like it! YES
  17. Disparity between the sax and the vocals really hurts this mix. I'm not a big fan of how the vocals sit in the mix; I appreciate the effect, but I think that when it gets combined with the relatively dry sax, the entire thing ends up sounding a little weird. The vocals get lost in the soundscape too, and everything sort of gets squished together later on. :\ Great arrangement, but I think it needs some work on the mixing end. NO, but please resub. Also, as per the Submissions Standards and Instructions, Section 1, Article 3:
  18. Too close to the original I think; it started off with a nice intro but then it got really cluttered really fast. I like some of the parts at the end. You have some nice groovy stuff going on in the second half of the piece. Lead at 2:20 is a really bad sound. Very mechanical, very thin. I think that you could do better with your sounds in the beginning of this piece and then later on. Good start, I'd like to see some more of it. No, resub.
  19. Source is pretty simple, so I figure this will primarily be a groovy-oriented mix. Ah, pretty cool old-school sound. I don't mind the 16-notes that much; they go just far enough and change just in time before things get annoying. Pretty good job with the variation, considering the source. YES
  20. Quite dark, very rockin'. Really well put together; great development. I enjoy the evolution of the track. Nice work. YES
  21. It could be longer, but I think it's pretty solid. I dig it when the vox comes in. Very chill, yet it still has an edge. Great pumping piece. YES I think the source usage is fine, and I just want to say that I think stop-watching stuff like this: " :48-1:18, 1:20-1:23" is taking it a little too far. Really, the two seconds between 1:18 and 1:20 don't count?
