  1. Songs that don't over-abuse the chorus. Better yet, songs that have clearly defined verse and chorus sections but never repeat the lyrics. I also find myself gravitating to a lot of bands that have a high-pitched male lead vocal a relaxed female vocal: Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Shiny Toy Guns. Also, songs that avoid giving solos/instrumentals their own sections and instead insist on placing blistering 'solos' on the chorus, right up there with the vocals. And loud bass.....guitar, synth or not, make it loud.
  2. I was actually somewhat popular in grade school just because I had a subscription to this magazine. I remember selling some of the codes and also kids calling me for advice on the games. Oh how time changes right? I remember when my Dad ordered my subscription and it came with Dragon Warrior. My older brother horded the game and after he beat it I was eventually able to play it and beat it and it was lots of fun. And also the posters. They were all over my room, until I went into my punk/guitar phase (until that went full circle and I started doing covers of video game songs). I will definitely check for the last issue. R.I.P and a toast to all.
  3. Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine Biomech - If you're a rock fan this one might blow you away. Been listening to it for three weeks and still addicted to it. Lots of electronic elements so it wouldn't seem out of place here ...and I would like to add that this guy's song structures are light years ahead of most musicians out there. You never know what comes next yet it stays catchy
  4. I can foresee many excellent trips to the throne with one. Yes I can.
  5. I have been listening to a lot of Devin Townsend. Here's one of his early tunes for anybody who gives a shit:
  6. The artwork is very good. Very pretty to look at and the instruction manual made me laugh at loud especially since I remember reading the original Capcom cornball manuals as a kid.
  7. It's cool derrit. I think everybody gets a little pissed off and lets it ride on the internet sometimes (just look at my post history). It really is a sad situation. Though I will agree with whomever who just stated that bands shouldn't really have to deal with this issue - playing an instrument is hard enough - it's still a loss of life.
  8. It's never a good idea to generalize a musical genre. I've seen good and bad in all genres. Awful lyrics are certainly common in metal, but saying that all lyrics are bad is a bit of a stretch. Mediocre guitar? No way dude - Metal tends to push the boundaries of musicianship, and while some bands certainly have crap guitar you're bound to hear some great axe-work from even the worst Iron Maiden ripoffs. As far as metal fans, yes a bunch of them are dickheads, but being a fan of the genre doesn't make a de facto nazi skinhead asshole. So, I can't watch video here so you'll have excuse me for my lack of commenting on the actual intended subject matter - the death involved. Then again, this could've happened at another concert. I remember back in the day when the Smashing Pumpkins had to deal with several fans being trampled/injured/killed - they banned moshing altogether at their shows.
  9. I ordered the CD a few days ago, and it came with a digital download as well. I am now regretting the fact that I did not order "Get Acoustic" and "You've Sparked a War E.P". Might just pull an extra shift and finish off their discography, get a few shirts too. I think Sparked a War and Magnet are the best candidates for ocr, but Walk Away From The Light isn't shabby either.
  10. Bought the first album and loved it. I passed it around and tried to get as many people to listen to it as possible - From first listen I've gotta say they've improved. The flow between the tracks is really good and the decision to release this as two albums was a good move. So far, Magnet is my favorite. I can't wait to actually hear this through a good sound system. A little laptop is no way to listen to an album like this so I'll wait for the CD for next listen.
  11. Being a pervert and an action game whore, I like everything but one thing...the title. They could just call it "Cheerleader Zombie Killer" or something like that.
  12. The Wii was a good console. It's still fun to break out every once in a while, and it's killer for those who like a quick fix, or arcade style or 2-D gaming. I don't know how the Wii U will fare, or any future console for that matter. The gaming industry is definitely in some kind of unpredictable transitional phase and it could be bad....Emphasis on "could". The next few years should be interesting to say the least.
  13. I think that the characters in the game were a breath of fresh air. Groose was absolutely menacing, but by the end I couldn't help but love 'em. My lady still thinks that Princess Zelda is quote "a total bitch" for pushing Link off near the beginning of the game, but I think this iteration of her is very likeable. She's always seemed more standoff in other games.
  14. Summary: Scalping is wrong but nobody gives a crap, people who want games should wait several months past the release date, OCR is full of people who need to take courses in economics and government, I am a communist, if the Wii U is priced at 300 I need to actually save 600 (or wait three months), and none of this crap even matters because it's just a forum and I've already stated my opinion and nobody is going to agree with me anyway because we live in a society focused on money and void of anything that can't be sucked up and shat out in fifteen seconds or less. Fuck it. Have a good night people. Edit: Oh look it's Edgecrusher, douche number 1. I almost quit listening to fear factory because of your username. Just something I thought I would let you know.
  15. People who do my kind of stuff have a severe problem with bastards who like to deprive me of what I work hard for and rightfully deserve. I shouldn't have to wait because someone can't make money honesty. You can make 150 a night waiting tables for heavens sake.
  16. Yeah, I had to go to stores all across town and scour for weeks to find the console that I actually wanted to buy and play. Part of it was Nintendo's fault and the other part was that of a bunch of opportunists thought it a good idea to take advantage. Whether you have a moral compass or not it is selfish and it takes the joy out of people who work hard for what they buy. Not everyone on the planet is born with a silver spoon. I had to work extra hard just to buy a Wii and it took years after for me to acquire a 360 and that was more of a donation. I'm tired of the worn-out excuse of "supply and demand." The law of supply and demand doesn't give you the right to interfere with it. Scalping is what it is strictly defined is and it is anti-consumerist and goes directly against the rights of consumers. Sure you have the right to go and derive people of what you want for a quick buck just like I have the right to say that these people are morally bankrupt for depriving fans who actually work to buy something whereas someone who could care less instead skips out of a day of honest work to scalp something that means nothing to him. Want to make profit? Create a product yourself and sell it like I do. I sell hot sauce. I grow the peppers myself, and make the recipes myself - I do it all and I sell it at a profit on the local market in an honest manner. Sell cars, sell insurance, sell crack. But don't jump in line and call yourself a salesperson. When I need to take a shit does someone jump in the line and offer me ten bucks so I can take a shit faster? Supply and demand my ass. Standing in line and hawking consoles on ebay doesn't make you a salesperson. The salespeople are the ones at the counter doing their best to supply us with the product and not be ran over by the angry mob and weirdos camping outside. And yes I will berate the hell out of anymore who scalps any product, whether the person be Chuck Norris, Jesus Christ, Tina Turner, or even a contributing artist on overclocked remix. Stick to making good music. Seriously.
  17. That's a pretty f'd up thing to do for people who actually care about playing the games. Anything for a quick buck huh?
  18. I've been on a huge Ninja Gaiden kick lately, both NES versions and Ninja Gaiden 2 on Xbox. I'm looking forward to it for sure. I've never beaten Ninja Gaiden 3 on NES. I've gotten so close and then ran out of continues at the end.
  19. I'm honestly not impressed with anything that's been introduced recently. I really like the fact that Link can actually run in the new Zelda game but overall the new console race just looks like a big tech pissing contest. Of course that's what E3 is all about, and maybe I'm just growing up and realizing that it's mostly a big marketing idea. Anyway, it seems the big new buzz now is in platform independence and breaking down the barriers between devices. This is a good thing dealing with tech but I'm not sure about how I feel with this panning out with video games. I like online gaming and I like new functionality and freedom, but I think that there's something to be said about playing an ugly, 8 or 16 bit game with one or two friends and not much else - We have lost the beautiful intimacy of gaming and now it appears that we're just trying to upgrade to the next trend and in turn forget to enjoy the artful of gaming. There's healthy competition - Pushing each other forward like Fatal Fury VS Street Fighter VS Mortal Kombat VS a bunch of other games that forced each other to improve, and then there's a bunch of hype-based obsession dealing with technically one-upping the next guy. We had 8 and 16 and 24 and 32 bit, but good games came first. When you can download a good (new) game for 10 bucks, it starts getting scary. I've had enough of their semantics. But of course, this came from a guy who used to ride his bike to the video game store, not knowing whether or not the game would be boss, decent or utter shit. I don't know. These guys have some absolutely amazing tech going on, but even Nintendo seems to lack the one thing I used to love about interactive gaming - soul. We'll learn more in the next few weeks and months about what the companies are doing, but they're getting so predatory that it's rather depressing. Just like my posts. But whatever.
  20. It's a secret to everybody.
  21. Why Macho Man? This is awful. RIP Macho Man. SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM!!!!!
  22. I miss the good old days of Nintendo VS Sega. But that was like 5,000 years ago. Good times.
  23. Am I the only one who thought Mega Man Legends was creepy? Yeah, I enjoyed it but WTF. Especially the invisible robots and the last boss. This is coming from a guy who prefers games like Splatterhouse and Ninja Gaiden, so you tell me.
  24. It's funny how there's so much blatant Wii hate on here but it's a thread on a new Nintendo console. There is more bitching and whining in here than on a reality show about teenage girls. Don't like the Wii? Think Nintendo sucks and prints money? Then stop buying their products. I do not for one moment regret buying my Wii or 360 or any other console (minus the virtual boy). Some of you people honestly expect too damn much from the people who make your games. I hope Cranky Kong comes into real life and bops you haters over your heads.
