NO WAI. I'm talking about the tendency for floating trem strings to go out of tune as you're bending, not when you return from a bend. You know you have to compensate for double-stop bending. I have my action so low that I can bend the G 6 semitones with 9s on the guitar (the higher strings actually fret out at around 3-4 semis), and return to in-tune status with my original Ibanez Edge trem. -steve

Anyone going for the Slash guitar?
Legion303 replied to BluefoxIcy's topic in Music Composition & Production
No one's mentioned the fact that a signature Slash model guitar won't make you sound like Slash. -steve -
The secret is to use external effects. When I'm doing scratchpad work or using Slayer 2 as a placeholder until I can record my real guitar, I always run it through Guitar Rig 2. This is done that way with some other effects tossed on: http://neutronstar.org/music/malaguena.mp3 It would sound better if Amplitube 2 worked in FLS. Maybe in v.8. -steve

Yes and no. The video was amazing. The first mp3 sounded like ass (but I've been playing guitar forever--any non-guitarists want to chime in here?). The second mp3 sounded great, but the OP question was specifically about chugga chugga. I can get Slayer 2 to sound very realistic in small doses and with lots of surrounding material, but it takes a lot of work. Why does this topic come up every 3 months? -steve

Wanted: Somebody to play acoustic guitar
Legion303 replied to Hausdog's topic in Music Composition & Production
It's not that hard to fingerpick. It would be even easier to play the parts separately and merge the notes. I'm not offering, sorry. -steve -
Want your business on TV? (probably not spam!)
Legion303 replied to Legion303's topic in General Discussion
CourtTV has changed the air date. It's now 12/25/2007 in the evening (check local listings; 9pm in Colorado). They will be showing the first two episodes back-to-back. I plan on attending the pre-release party tonight. Anyone who's going to be in Denver around 10pm is welcome to come, but they close the doors when 700 people are in the building. 1082 Broadway, downstairs. I believe it's still a 21+ club, but it's been a long time since I've been there and they changed management. -steve -
I like it. It sounds like MM2 if the soundtrack had been written by Hiroki Kikuta. If you were to submit this today, the judges would complain about articulation on the strings. I also personally wanted to hear some epic orchestral swells going on in the middle, but they never materialized. -steve

Richard Matheson is responsible for about 25% of the original Twilight Zone stories, and is an amazing writer. This means Hollywood will rape his corpse and shit out something vaguely similar to his original, but with more stupid. -steve

I actually like the drum sound, but this tune is way too repetitive as it stands, and there are probably a few hundred real guitarists around here who could give you a hand with that part (see the musicians wanted/available thread). I say go for the 3DO samples (Kohr-Ah especially), just mangle the hell out of them to fit with the industrial feel of the song. -steve

Rock/metal bands with female lead vocalists- recommendations?
Legion303 replied to Culturekoi's topic in General Discussion
Arch Enemy. I know 18 other people have mentioned them already. There's a good reason for that. -steve -
Looking for a collab partner
Legion303 replied to The Legendary Zoltan's topic in Music Composition & Production
Seriously, this consisted of me slapping Amplitube on the track and auto-harmonizing it. I don't want credit since I didn't do any work. Here it is: http://neutronstar.org/tmp/harmony.rar -steve -

Legion303 replied to The Legendary Zoltan's topic in Music Composition & Production
I still have a cold. I think this round is going to Fray, who put a shitload of work in. I don't need credit for it, but if Fray wants to use my 4 seconds of guitar lead harmony I'll export it. -steve -
Whats the best synthesizer out there?
Legion303 replied to Deathtank's topic in Music Composition & Production
Tandy. You could pick one up for $15 at Radio Shack. -steve -
Some friends of mine have a TV show airing next month on Court TV (now "Tru TV"). The show, Tiger Team, is a bit like To Catch a Thief in the sense that both shows feature a small team of experts who publicly show people how they can be compromised--but Tiger Team is different in that the team also compromises alarm systems, physical locks (the goal being to get in and out relatively undetectably, not to just smash a window) and defeats computer security in order to grab sensitive data. Having watched a rough draft of the pilot episode, I can tell you that what's shown is not enough for the casual viewer to mimic--these guys aren't training people how to bypass anything, and there's plenty of editing to keep it that way. All three of the team members do high-level penetration and security work for a living and are professionals in every sense of the word. That said, they would like to line up some companies that don't mind being on TV and are willing to undergo a few days of filming. Requirements below. -steve -------------------------------------------- Ladies and Gents, We need your help to find juicy targets that would be fun to watch us compromise for the show. This list of potential targets is critical for the success of the show as the network is getting ready to sign off on more episodes. Locations and businesses can be anywhere and anything so long as they have sensitive data / merchandise for use to "acquire". The production company is also very responsive to the locations specific security needs and are happy to edit / censor anything that the business wants to protect. Good locations: Banks Data centers Hospitals Insurance companies Weapon / Research Businesses Police Departments Jails / Prisons / etc. Holding companies HR management companies Government Buildings The selected locations will get the work at a free/reduce rate (depending upon the job), which will help them identify issues that need to be mitigated that threaten their operations. Our resumes, job history, and references are available and will be provided to any business that is serious about engaging us. If you work somewhere cool but you don't have the power to make the decision, that's OK, give us a name of someone who can and let us talk with them to see if they would like to be part of the project. We have a very limited amount of time to put together this list so please help us gather the names of potential locations today. I will also kick out an appropriate finders fee to any job that you send us that signs and makes it on the air! Note: For those of you who don't have a clue what I am talking about, 2 of my coworkers (Liz Borden & Indi) and myself have been working with Size 12 productions and a few other key people for a year and a half creating a TV show about what we do for a living. (Size 12 is the production company that created American Choppers, American Casino, the Dennis Rodman show, Geek to Freak, America's Toughest Bars, etc.) Our show is currently being produced under the name of "Tiger Team" and will be shown during primetime "red" on Tru-TV (court TV) -- If you would like more information please google: Tiger Team Courttv Thanks for your help! Odd problems with a wah pedal and amplitube 2
Legion303 replied to Geoffrey Taucer's topic in Music Composition & Production
I'm assuming you aren't stupid, but I still have to ask: is this a wah/volume combo pedal? And are you sure you're changing it to wah and not "volume 0"? -steve -

I posted v0.2 but didn't get feedback. I haven't worked on it much since then. I don't think I need an extension yet. Due to the loud environment control system at work I can't do much with it there, even with headphones. So the earliest I'll be able to do anything other than tonight would be Monday... -steve -
Best drum sample pack ever, $14 - read
Legion303 replied to zircon's topic in Music Composition & Production
Gah! Having used the piano roll for so long, I couldn't imagine going back to individual sequencer channels for drums. -steve -
My son was some sort of monster. It was supposed to be Domo-Kun, but the fabric store was out of everything but green. Edit: this wasn't nearly as offensive as last year's costume: -steve

The nocd patch is probably shitty programming, which would cause issues. Oblivion has no copy protection. Frankly, at $20 (new) you can afford to get it and keep the damn DVD in the drive while you play. I got maybe halfway through the main quest and 50 hours of actual gameplay before I got burned out because there's just SO MUCH you can do. You can't tell me that's not worth twenty bucks. -steve

Recording only with a pc and a guitar
Legion303 replied to kongsmoelf's topic in Music Composition & Production
Snappul's high. It may be possible to fry your old Gravis UltraSound card by plugging unbalanced inputs into it, but I went straight in for a good 8 years with no ill effects on newer hardware. That said, pick up a $50 tube preamp. Mine (Behringer somethingorother) has 1/4" and XLR mic inputs and outputs and a 12AX7 tube. It makes everything sound so much nicer than plugging straight in. Believe me, once you hear the difference between your thin reedy guitar sound straight and the warm powerful overtones of a preamp, you won't regret the cost. -steve
