Fret noise doesn't really bother me much...but that's just a matter of taste. Some people don't mind, some people hate it. To me that sort of noise just gives more feeling to the song. Can't really bash the two guitar thing either, but to me adding more parts to it without changeing what is already there a bit would probably just make the peice feel overworked and cluttered. As far as the "thin" sound to it, try retuneing your instruments. I'm not really sure if it can apply to strings like wind instruments, but while I was in band the directors always said and also demonstraited several times that ones sound would "open up" when tuned correctly. Otherwise the song is very nice, bit on the muddy side, but you say you're rerecording it so the muddyness is pretty moot.

It wouldn't be elevator music if it actualy went somewhere. It would be nice for it to atleast have an end though. I think giveing it a climax would ruin the elevator music part of it though. Anyway on the song, uh the cheesyness burns... As far as being like elevator music goes, it fits the bill pretty nicely. I also think the flute does fine with this peice, the woodblock could probably be quieter though, it seems to stick out like a sore thumb.

Keiji Inafune: games are not an art

While there isn't much meaning to it, it'd still probably be a pretty interesting thing to render, and for any viewer to look at if done correctly. -
Keiji Inafune: games are not an art
cobaltstarfire replied to lazygecko's topic in General Discussion
Ontop of what everyone else has said, art can be created any way one see's fit. Some artists beleive art to be a way to express, and the viewer should feel something when they see/hear the product. Other artists beleive that art should have no feeling, story, or reason beyound being a perfect form. (Ex. Giant seamless black metal boxes). Others think art is supposed to make a statement (a piano peice called 3 minutes of silence...the piano is never played). To me an important part of the art is the process gone through to make it...it's interesting to observe a painting or a sculpture and think of how it was done, and the technique and problem solveing that went into it. It doesn't matter *how* or why the art is made though, art is art, last week I saw an article about a growing art style that uses bio-chemistry to create art, whether its a bunny that glows neon colors, or petri dishes with bacteria that has been geneticly manipulated to look interesting. Even more "traditional" arts couldn't be done without some science and engineering at some level. As far as video games are concerned, I don't really know where the game becomes art , I feel pretty certain that some games are NOT art, but others are. Both of them could be makeing a fair amount of money, but one is may just be a game with no real ideal or vision behind it at all beyound the fact that its a game. Are games in themselves art forms? I guess it doesn't really matter since no one can agree on what art really is anyway. -
It sounds an awfull lot like the original...

Not to get too much into this debate (which is pointless imo) but some characters are more lethal with items than others.

I thought you could turn off crates/barrels? I can't honestly remember, haven't touched the game in about a year and a half...

I found it pretty enjoyable myself...can't really offer any critique though. -

If you get the ecco the dolphin games you might want to try the genesus version instead, the cd versions have a new level or two that don't particularly add much, and the soundtracks are replaced by mostly ambient junk. (Nothing against ambient, but most the music in the cd versions was...bad). That's just me though...sometimes the music can break a good game for me... Ecco games are probably amoung my fav of all time though, they were very different and challengeing for their time, and probably still are now to a certain point, or atleast for people that don't know the ins and outs of the game. Oh yeah, for the GBA Golden Sun, only the first one though, the second one didn't really hold up to the original I thought....

Mario Kart - Marios Badass Circuit by Kevo

This song is freakish and weird...but I like it, that's about all I can say. -
Zelda: OoT - Bolero of Fire
cobaltstarfire replied to Theory of N's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I like this quite a bit, can't say anything about the arrangement its very enjoyable. Since I don't know a thing about the production side of things, I'll just say to maybe try to do something to make it feel less mechanical. (Try asking around a bit to see what you get). -
Plumber's Bane (*Finished version)
cobaltstarfire replied to Random Hero's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Number two is a bit on the boreing end of things....and number 1 is excelent, but...it seems to just be a bunch of covers put together into one mega (very nice sounding) medley with nice samples and stuff. -
OCR01549 - Chrono Trigger "Theme of Frog's"

I don't really like the flute solo, normaly I don't care about out of tunedness if it fits the song, but the intonation and fingering is very sloppy here and feels more like a giant mistake, it hinders the song more than it helps. However once things get going after the intro it isn't quite so bad, and the lack of tuneing between the instruments seems to give it a better (more organic?) feel than if the tuneing had been perfect. Overal I like it, its kindof short, and I wouldn't really say its a direct cover of the original either. A pretty good arrangement though, baring the flute solo anyway... Edit: Oh yeah, since people are mentioning it, the problem with the flute solo has little to do with recording ability if you ask me, its the musician playing it that is weak, the solo would be good if it had been executed a bit more skillfully. Because really...that little bit should not be difficult for a moderate level middle school/highschool student to play. -
Star Fox (SNES) Game Clear -WIP-
cobaltstarfire replied to DZComposer's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I like it, my only real beef is that its very quite (not dynamicly) but everything about it is really quite, had to turn up my volume to twice its norm to hear anything much... -
Try out the Jolly Rogers (http://www.chivalry.com/jollyrogers/) They sell several albums of piratey music/traditional sea shanties/amuseing piratey songs. You can also find them at ren fairs doing their acts and singing, which they are pretty good at.

I thought that while there is some natural emmsions from things like bio dregradeing and animals passing gas, humans were contributeing a vast amount to why the planets tempurature is going up, sooner than is normal for the planets actual cycle. I think the point is that the earth naturaly cycles through hot and cold times, but we're causeing it to enter the hot part alot faster and sooner than is normal, so its not really giveing the environment a chance to adapt.

2 New Tracks - DKC2 & Wario Land
cobaltstarfire replied to Patrick Burns's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I wasn't a big fan of the dkc2 one, but the wario world mix was pretty nifty, and nice playing. Although it probably could have been shorter, the end kindof dragged on for me. -
I can't remember the tracks as much, except that the coin challenges were kind of irritateing, but I remember enjoying the VS mode of DKR more than MK64. Atleast when playing with live people. (Never played with the npc's in dkr) I actualy liked how it incoorporated different vehicals, the flying levels were fun, the boss battles. And I recal enjoying the space levels quite a bit. (particularly space port alpha for some reason...maybe I just liked the music... or something) Maybe I'm just weird....

I like this, its rather pretty and stuff. I don't really know the source though, so thats about all I can say. And in alot of places some of the piano chords seem kindof...well sour, they just don't mash very well with the melody on top.

Super Mario Bros 4 (Super Mario World) - Main Theme
cobaltstarfire replied to gmk_corp's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Ehem... from DJP in the "Info" page. That said, I thought it was interesting-ish...sortof...kindof short and it doesn't really do a huge amount or rearranging. (Although it's definitly there) -
The Next Generation of Star Trek?
cobaltstarfire replied to The Lone Gunman's topic in General Discussion
I don't really remember the characters from Voyager at all, (except for 7 and the doctor). Well I do, but only vaguely. I enjoyed it for the weird stories, really....cause there was some weird stuff, but it didn't seem overly out there either. Which brings me to DS9 I wasn't too partiual to DS9 for whatever reason, I guess I just didn't appreciate the soap opera in space feel of it, some of what was going on in it didn't seem to fit within the star trek universe either, I'm not too nit picky about stuff like that, but some elements just seemed extremely out of place to me. Next Generation was cool, although something about it struck me as incredibly cheesy/stiff at times. But it was probably the most diverse in terms of the kinds of eppisodes it had, some were seriouse, some were silly, some were full of drama, some went off into holo-room shenanigans that had nothing to do with the actual plot. So it was fun. No comment on many of the other star treks, as those three above are the only ones I have any real experience with.
