Theophany Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Nothing is better than Christian Bale's bat voice. Nothing Quote
Arcana Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I don't think I've ever actually met anybody who likes Mortal Kombat I dunno, isn't the first movie was commonly cited as an example of a video game movie done right? It wasn't exactly a masterpiece but it was something that was entertaining and campy enough to send your friends to watch. Quote
Bleck Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 no I mean like actually playing Mortal Kombat games Quote
Charlie's Angel Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I still sometimes play the Genesis version of Mortal Kombat upstairs. Good times. Quote
Malaki-LEGEND.sys Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I've liked the Mortal Kombat series consistently, although the last one I played was MK4(which I liked). I always wanted to get a chance to play Trilogy... I saw this stuff on 1up earlier. I wonder what's coming if anything. Quote
Inimitable Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 If this is a movie trailer I'm excited! If it's for another horrible game I am not. Quote

Playing MK Trilogy is like playing Marvel 2 in a way -- everything is broken to shit and damn near everyone knows it. <3 playing as Chameleon though. Quote
Salluz Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 michael jai white has the best voice anyone has ever had The only reason why we watched Spawn. Quote
Tinus Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I used to like Trilogy and MK4, but that was before I really got into fighting games. Since I started playing more Street Fighter I haven't been able to care about Mortal Kombat. Quote
ambient Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Loved the trailer. Great concept. Really hope this gets made. Quote
zircon Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 This isn't really a trailer, per se. It's a short film made to pitch a film idea, so if the pitch gets picked up, a full movie may or may not be made in this style, by the same director. Quote
rockmasterflex69 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I have mixed feelings. I own both of the original Mortal Kombat Movies. Yes, they're pretty awful, but I have dragged my friends to watch them cuz... the story is somewhat entertaining and they did a decent job with no budget on the effects (until the end of Mortal Kombat TA, where the fail is strong). It was my understanding that this 'remake' won't have iconic things like Sub-Zero's costume, to represent the Mortal Kombat Universe is a more realistic, less loltastic way. This dissapoints me greatly. Sub-Zero is just another ninja without his blue gi. Quote
The Dual Dragons Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 no I mean like actually playing Mortal Kombat games Yeah, no one likes Mortal Kombat, the franchise just sells millions of copies and is most of the time critically acclaimed, people hate that stuff lol. Personally, I think Mortal Kombat is the best fighting game franchise. Quote
Poke'G Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 The games were mediocre, but I really enjoyed the mythos. Seeing a film concept completely ditching the supernatural aspects to be the bastard lovechild of Saw and Batman Begins is really disappointing. It's like if they made a New Gods movie, but made them all gangsters in rival cities with bare bones physical similarities for arguable recognition . There's re-imagining, and then there's just plain stealing names for instant marketability. Quote
DarkeSword Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Nothing is better than Christian Bale's bat voice. Nothing Kevin Conroy's Batman voice. Q.E.D. Quote
Schwaltzvald Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Kevin Conroy's Batman voice.Q.E.D. Yeah I can't imagine any one else doing Batman's voice but ...Much like how you'd be hard pressed to ever replace Mark Hamill's Joker's voice Quote
Malaki-LEGEND.sys Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Well, it's official. We have a new Mortal Kombat game in the works. Quote
Soul Splint Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Game = yes Movie Pitch = WTF Reptile is a leper-looking Jeeper-Creeper and Baraka is a postal plastic surgeon? Me thinks not. The only cool things about the pitch were the cast choices for Jax and Sonya, and Scorpion's little ruse at the end. I'm all for a more serious movie than the past ones, but they are trying way too hard to base this in reality. As long as the game is less than $60 (or at least worth the $60), then it looks promising. Quote
Archaon Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I'm not really sure how well that trailer/pitch/whatever holds up beyond the initial novelty. I mean, I had as much of the "Yay, it's Reptile! Yay, it's Baraka! YAY, IT'S SCORPION!" reaction as I'm sure anyone who grew up with Mortal Kombat did, but once that wears off, what has it got going for it? If they actually set up the plot like that then I can't see how it'd be anything other than 90 minutes of dudes beating the shit out of each other. Again. And that would be fine if the fight scenes were particularly impressive, but I wasn't really blown away by the one they showed. As for the game, it's nice to see that they've come to their senses after that "Kustom Fatality" travesty, but aside from that I'm not holding my breath. Fighting system just looks like a bunch of same old, but with one fewer plane to move in. And a gimmick for the dial-a-combos. And it doesn't give me much hope that Kung Lao's fatality, as cool as it was, has just been recycled from Shaolin Monks. Quote
The Dual Dragons Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 The Batman topic: Agree about Hamill, he is brilliant as the Joker. Personally though, I think Bale as Batman is pretty boring and feels like stiff acting. And his Bruce Wayne is like a Christian Bale in bad mood. Michael Keaton though, gave a lot of emotion to Bruce Wayne, a lot of characteristics. Quote
