Honestly, I really don't know. But Falcon is one of the most popular characters in Smash. Plus, haven't they shown his logo when they announced Goroh as an assist? Why have his icon if he's not in the game.

Yup, Goroh is listed with the Falcon symbol, indicating that the Captain is in the game.

As for Sonic, what do you think are his moves? My best guesses from the video:

v Smash: Helicopter kick? ala Sheik

v attack (air): One-legged stomp

^ attack (air): Flip similar to Fox an Falco

Standard special: Spin dash (chargeable)

v Special: Weaker but faster Falcon Kick.

Final Smash: Super Sonic

He's fast and appears to have powerful attacks (we don't know the % on the opponents). If they're going to give Sonic a weakness, it'll be his recovery or his defense.

I always preferred playing Sonic Adventure 2 with the Japanese voices.

Presumably the existence of Sonic in Brawl means we can also look forward to some Sonic items ... shields, perhaps?

In the video I saw a...what is the esact name? that red things that blow you up...springs maybe?

Well there was one of these things on Delfinia...so yes, will be Sonic items.

Actually, I've never understood why people have been saying third-party characters won't be involved in the story. The whole SSB universe is basically one great big parody (as the Metal Gear codec clips have demonstrated) -- any character can be made to fit very easily. I also can't see why the mere fact of being third-party would make a difference. If the characters' original companies had some sort of problem with what Nintendo was doing with the characters in SSB, they wouldn't have licensed the characters to Nintendo in the first place.

I will prefer if the non-Nintendo characters would not fit in the story...a good idea is to make some sidequests with separate stories for Snake and Sonic...

One thing I noticed from the videos so far is that smash attacks seem to be much more powerful now in terms of sending someone flying much easier, and jumps go much higher as well.

I do like how specials link with attacks much smoother and I'm sure everything is properly balanced and fine tuned.

Also, damage percentages seem to go up very fast?

Everything so far looks epic and smooth :) This will be one game to play for a loooong time.

I couldn't help notice Sonic doing a sort of "Falcon Kick" like move in the movie. Could he be a replacement for your beloved falcon?

It would be great if sonic's down b was the spindash...and if you press it over and over again it would charge up, just like the old sonics - releasing down shoots you away. THAT would be great.

Isn't that how it works?

So now we'll have to see some sonic items. Personally I think it'd be great if they implemented the three shields - the water shield bounces you up to your previous jump height upon landing (and I guess protects you from squirtle/fludd's water attacks), the lightning shield gives you a third mid-air jump (and protects you from the electric attacks of pikachu, pichu if he's in it, and Ness if he's in it), and the fire shield allows you to attack and rocket quickly back and forth across the stage (and protects you from charizard, bowser and mario's fire attacks). Getting like 10-20% of damage should kill the shield.

Notice that 1-11 are from SSB, 12&14 are new to SSBM, and 15 onward are new to SSBB. Leads me to believe that 13 is Game & Watch, and 19 is a new franchise.

(Note: This idea has been previously posted on this thread by someone else, but with Sonic's inclusion, we now know that there's most likely another new franchise.)

And who's to say it ends with Sonic at 20?

Also, all of those seem to be the playable characters. Assist trophies like Dr. Wright have the generic Smash Bros. Icon. So, since F-Zero is listed there, it almost guarantees Captain Falcon will make an appearance, or somebody as his successor. (Which is unlikely.)

As for the last "third-party" character, it's really either Cloud, one of the Belmonts, or Megaman. Although I am totally not ruling out Master Chief.

Totally onboard! and if you keep pressing b and holding down it charges up just like in Sonic 2 and 3!! That would be sooo sweet!

Master Chief wasn't in any Nintendo games. There's talk of Halo DS, but I doubt MC will be in Smash. Maybe the next version of Smash brothers though.

Only characters that have appeared on Nintendo consoles will be in Smash. Sakurai has said this officially.

Cloud technically was a summon on the GBA version of Kingdom Hearts... so... I guess technically it's possible but I doubt it, unless Nintendo wants all the old Square fans to hop on the bandwagon (which they would... Square has almost all RPG fans under their girly-anime-man thumbs)... seriously, Cloud+Snake+Sonic+Mario is a killer lineup, but I doubt it. I seriously, seriously, seriously, doubt it. Hardcore doubt it.

The more I think about it, the more logical a choice is picking a character from a Capcom franchise... Belmont, Megaman, or Ryu. or even viewtiful joe. or A Resident Evil character. Capcom has a ton of great characters and to me is the best candidate for a 3rd party appearance in Smash since Nintendo and Capcom worked together on quite a few of the Zelda titles on GameBoy Color back in the day, and even some recent ones.

Capcom supports Nintendo with great software usually before other systems get stuff (Resident Evil 4, Viewtiful Joe, Killer 7)so I think it's logical to make a guess that they'll be the next (and last?) character to appear, if Sakurai even lets one more 3rd party character in.... he said 2 or 3, remember?

I really hope they bring those back; honestly, the Event Matches were some of the only times I didn't play with Link, cause I just didn't have the motivation. And thanks to that, I can (kind of) use more than one person. Of course, I have PLENTY of motivation to play multiple peoples in Brawl... but the fact still stands.

I still say that the most likely Square character would be Sora. Not that I want him, but he's much more likely than Cloud. Crono is too old school; I'm sure Square wants to promote current games, and Sora fits the bill all too well.

Personally, I want that number 19 to be Olimar's symbol; I think he'd be awesome.

Or, in my wonderful dreams...
