I want to build you a computer - new build pics on page 31! (someone sell me a raspberry pi plz)

eh, this hasn't been updated in ages. just pm me if you want information.

i build computers as a side business out of my home. i'd like to build you a computer. if you're within, like, six hours of where i live, i'll even drop the thing off for you.

i don't use cut-rate components, or attempt to scam you. i do all the work myself using good components, and i tell you exactly what you're getting. i also do tech support (within reason) for anyone who needs it - if something breaks, i try to fix it as best i can without costing you any extra money. i can give you usernames if you want to hear testimonials of my work.

why would you take me up on this offer?
>you probably don't know enough about computers to build one yourself.
>i can build it for you for less than half of what you'd pay for a similar computer through dell, lenovo (microsoft), hp, acer, etc.
>i can customize it for your specific needs easily. need thirty USB ports? fine! need 9 terabytes of data storage? awesome! want the biggest, most pimped out system using the best components? sounds good to me!

here's how it works.
>you pm me, and say 'i want a computer!'
>i'll contact you (skype, aim, phone...anything real-time is ideal) and we'll discuss what you want, and how much overhead you've got to work with
>i'll do a little research, and find out best costs and some timetable information, and get back to you, usually within a day or two
>if you agree, i'll order the parts, assemble them, and probably hand deliver the computer to your house. i'll install any software you want, and have it optimized for whatever you need.

why am i doing this?
>i love building computers. the smell of a component fresh from the box is like ambrosia to my senses.
>i enjoy working with the hardware end of computing technology.
>now that i'm done with my master's work, i'm bored!

every system i create are less than half of what it would cost from a major retailer.

if anyone's interested (i'm not planning on a lot of people being interested, but it's worth a shot), send me a pm and we'll go from there.

understand this. i can create for you a computer that is easily the most fantastic system that you've ever used, and i can do it for super cheap, compared to any of the other custom builders. i can customize it for gaming, for media usage, for HTPC work, for in-studio recording...anything. theredbob's gaming computer cost well over 2000$ less than the same pc built by alienware, and the only difference was that the case didn't scream NERD when he opened the box. i just built an HTPC for under 250$, and it runs like a dream. a friend of mine is still drooling over his custom photoshop cs4 system that cost a fourth of the price of similar custom-built systems that didn't have his name engraved on the side, based on a design he drew himself.

also note that i don't just do monster systems. over half of the computers i've built cost less than 800$, shipped and everything.

people who bought computers (aka, people to PM for testimonials):
chrono26
karedis
neodestiny
escariot (kinda, we built his using some of my components and some of his in a gazebo at some little backwater town in PA that was a halfway point)
electronic samurai
ifrit
jam stunna x2
darklink42
theredbob
meteo BANNEDier
halcyonspirit
avaris
salluz
geoffrey taucer
zircon
xenon odyssey
sole signal (audix)
relyance

and others!

please also note that i do case modifications - like additional fans, lighting, graphics, the whole deal. if you want a custom case built out of a cigar cabinet, let's go! i recently did a system that was based on the guy's favorite football team - diamond-pressed steel, color-coordinated lighting, emblem, and all.

just get in touch, and let your dream come alive. (sorry, that's terrible...)

edit: just a note, folks - i recently started getting into DAW slave computers and render farms for graphics. PM me for more information.

I think on this forum that would be especially false.

Explain this part. Do you personally get an especially hot cut rate deal on hardware, or are you referring to the cost difference anyone would save when building a machine themselves?

Well, I know how to build a computer myself, but I think that this is a good idea.

Yeah, I had a friend who was good with computers, but if I didn't, I would have loved a service like this.

Though I pretty much understand how to build a computer now, I do find it a bit boring and a bit of a hassle to go looking for everything I need. In other words this is good for the lazy. I would actually take you up on that if I lived nearby.

Well, I probably won't be getting a new computer anytime soon, but if something happens to my family's computer (which is going on 5-6 years old now), I'll be sure to take your offer into consideration. Especially since I'm not there with them to help build one myself.

actually, when you look at the whole of ocr, you'd find that most people here don't know enough about the hardware side of computers to select and install the best components for their system. or, they knew at one point and don't know about some of the more modern components and the special stuff you need to worry about.

and yeah, i can probably finagle a decent deal on parts. i have two friends who work both in electronics - one at a custom computer shop (he gets 15% off on parts) and one with the agency that sells the stuff seized through a bunch of bank and police seizures.

@ga jedi knight - look me up when you start having problems. we might be able to save some of the hardware (optical drives, hard drives, etc) for your new machine.

I will probably take you up on this in a couple of months if you have the time then. I know exactly what I want.

define 24/7 =)

edit - i should point out that this is almost a selling feature for my computers. you'll have my cell phone number by the end of this, and so as a result you basically get continuous tech support on everything that i install. some people really like that =)
