I had Brandon's 'Dark Groove' fr JJ2 downloaded in all sorts of formats over the years, I found the beat incredibly soothing and calming when stressed. Great remix, ambient, dripping with tons of atmosphere, dark, broody, like a forgotten Deus Ex track. Love it, insta d/l -

Take my orchestration of Sonic: His World + original for a spin. YouTube link - Link to FLP+MIDI - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Q7XB9RxuJy-a3X4BkgCtdaYZFVqbX5qg?usp=drive_link This FLP + MIDI is only for educational purposes, please don’t repost it as your own. The FLP should function flawlessly if you’re using the same libraries and plugins I use, however underneath you will see a list of the libraries I used to make this orchestration. I also used Kontakt 5 to make this. Keys - The Giant (Piano), Cineharps (Concert Harp, Harp 2, Harp 3), Celesta (Kontakt Factory Library), Marimba (Kontakt Factory Library), Xylophone (Kontakt Factory Library) Strings - Cinematic Strings 2, Metropolis Ark 1, Fluid Shorts, Jaeger Brass - Jaeger, Metropolis Ark 1, 8Dio Century Brass Ensemble Choir - Metropolis Ark 1, Oceania Woodwinds - Metropolis Ark 1, Albion 1, Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover Sololists - Tina Guo Cello Legato Percussion - 8Dio Epic Dhol, 8Dio Epic Toms, Rhapsody Orchestral Percussion (Timpani, Snare, Cymbals & Gongs) I also have iZotope Ozone 8 and OTT on the master. There’s a chance I missed mentioning using a library since orchestral projects can become quite large. I’m only human, hopefully this is helpful. Take care Peshtiwar

@Rozovian Got a brand-new version of my remix and I would really love to hear/read your feedback on this one (especially in comparison to the last remix version) since I put huge efforts in this new version (description of the biggest changes in terms of composition and mixing you can find in my comment above). You might not remember how the old remix version sounded like. But I kept a SoundCloud upload of the old version (I guess I will still keep it for at least one or two further months). Old remix version: 1.2 >>> New remix version: 1.3 >>> ... I really think about submitting this new version to the OC judges. But I still want to get a few impressions from the other remixers and listeners before. You also said that I should make a louder version which is on a similar loudness level like other OC remixes. I'm not really a big fan of getting involved in modern loudness wars since they do a lot to kill the dynamics of the music. That's why I favour the loudness recommendations of the EBU R 128 standards with a consistent target loudness level of around -23 LUFS (-23 dBFS) - with the help of this, you will never get into trouble with signal peaks and dynamics. And I also use it to bring all my own remixes and compositions on a standardized loudness level (so you will never have to touch the volume knob when listening to my uploaded audio content - wish they would implement this loudness standard not just at broadcasting but also for all steaming services and their whole audio content in the near future). But as long as it doesn't mess up my dynamic mixing concept I called "Life Force", I could create a louder version for OCRemix without using any compressors or limiters that might destroy dynamics, transients and degrade the sound quality. The measurements for the new version of this remix in my DAW show me a really safe maximum true peak value of around -7 dBTP. This means that the highest peak signal throughout the whole soundtrack just scratches around -7 dB (way below the 0 dB mark that should never be exceeded to avoid clipping and ensure a clean music production). So I think I could safely create a remix version for OCRemix which is about 6 dB louder (with a target loudness level of around -17 dBFS) than my own version without messing up my dynamic mixing concept. And it would sound like this in terms of loudness (be careful with the loudness jump, especially when using headphones): CC - FF7 Remix (Excerpt) - Plus 6 DB OCRemix Version.mp3 This should be around the loudness level of the really dynamic mixes of RebeccaETripp, a kinda famous composer on OCRemix. So what do you think?

Arrangement is killer, performances are killer. Production is not killer. I feel like the balance is really off here. The whole thing is sizzling, the vocals feel drowned out at points. The NO-voting judges I think are on the mark. This needs another pass on the mix. I feel distracted from enjoying this because of the balance issues. Great track, for sure want this on OCR, but let's get some help with fixing the mix up. Take it to the workshop, maybe some of our Sages or Judges can help. For now, it's a NO. -
Echoing what Josh said above, I love the idea of taking an ominous theme and setting it in a major key. The lyrical content evokes a sound reminiscent of Yellowcard, which is the same kind of pop-punk vibe mentioned in your write-up. If it isn't the vocals carrying the bulk of the melodic content, it's either the synth, the lead guitar, or both the vocals and guitar during the bridges. It does transition back to a minor key for the choruses, but it works and effectively showcases the emo-driven desperation in the lyric writing. Now, the mixdown. The recording quality is excellent, as always, and the sum of all parts sounds like they work together as a cohesive whole. Even then, a good handful of the individual instruments have a bright tone - on my first listen, the sleigh bells (?) were so far front that I almost wanted to call it a Christmas song. No problem with that, but it does leave the vocals competing for space with all the mid-high-toned instrumentation (cymbals, bells, lead guitar, synths). With that much conflict in the audio space, the vocals are hard enough to hear, even when reading the lyrics. I've no problem with the ESL quirks either - we've encountered that before in a previous mixpost of yours, and it should still not be an issue now. This submission felt so close to me, but in the end, I'd rather hear another mixdown pass that either brings the vocals further forward or brings every other melodic/non-kick percussion instrument back as a group - anything to make your voice more present. I want to hear that conviction, regardless of the vote decision. :) NO (resubmit)

"Krook's March" in a major key? Sign me up! Piggybacking off of Hemo for a second, this arrangement is indeed super fun. I'm personally not bothered by the vocal delivery on this track. While I can certainly point out some phrases that stick out oddly as a native English speaker (e.g. "Promised to not leave you there" is usually said by native English speakers as "promised not to leave you there" because it doesn't split the infinitive and for this song, flipping the positions of "to" and "not" improves the prosody), I'm happy to have lyrics and vocals in the one language I can read, write, and kinda sorta speak well. 😄 It seems like we're all in agreement here that the mixdown is far from ideal. The vocals compete for clarity at 0:45-1:01, the chorus at 1:36-1:52, again at 2:14-2:22, and leading into the second chorus starting from "For myself..." at 2:45-3:05. The biggest contributors to the clarity bottleneck are the cymbals (especially those open hi-hats) at 0:45-1:01 and 2:14-2:22 and the synth lead in the left channel in the choruses (1:36-1:52 and 2:45-3:05), with the lead guitar doubling the melody on the last one from 2:45-2:48 also obscuring the vocal line. I think these non-vocal elements can come down 1.5-2dB to make space for the vocals without negatively impacting the rest of the mix. The same can be said for the tick-tock clock. With that being said, I'm siding with the Ys. While there is definitely potential for a cleaner mixdown, this is above our bar. YES -

I listened to your latest version at work....I'll comment some when I get home and can listen and type/text more easily:) one thing I noticed and will ask really quickly I....is your bass drum tuned to the bass line? It sounds like the pitch of it changes with the pitch of the bass. That sounds nice. I'll be back later. -

If no problem with that, I'd be glad to join this album too, for the first time. After all, there's no strict quality controls or anyone being nitpicky with mixing on this one, right? :D You say any source is okay, even if not VGM, but just asking: are original compositions allowed, too? Because it sounds more tempting to try something original but influenced by good weather (aka cold and snow haha). If this is only about arrangements/remixes of other things, the source I'm thinking of is "Ary" from Tales of Phantasia. The original is slow and chill as heck, but I'd love to try something a lot faster and upbeat, in the style of the so-called "doujin" artists from the 2000s like I-Chu, Akineko, U-Gen, etc. I can totally see the vibe fitting this style and still fitting the theme, kinda sounding like some weirdo is having fun running with a skate all around the streets of an empty city because everyone is busy at their homes with family and stuff, just a funny concept I'm toying with mentally :D -
I just made a Christmas tune, a version of Gloria. I'll send it your way when I get a moment:)
