Final Fantasy V: The Fabled Warriors
Sagnewshreds and one other reacted to DarkeSword for a topic
Hey folks. Sorry for the false alarm earlier today with the April Fool's joke. Some people seem to be assuming that because we did a joke today about the album, this entire month of my saying that the album is done was just a lead up to the joke. If you know me and my opinions about April Fool's Day, you know that I have very strong opinions about doing any part of an A1 joke outside of April 1st. Rest assured, Water is done in terms of both music and album art. Speaking of album art, take a look at what we've got cooked up! And here's the tracklist! I've been working with @rnn who's our wonderfully talented album artist for For Everlasting Peace, Super Cartogrpahy Bros., and Apex 2015: This is the Moment, to completely revamp the visual look for The Fabled Warriors. Volume 2 is going to be a stepping off point for this series in terms of art. After Water is released, we're going to go back and redo the album art for Wind to match this new style; it'll feature Bartz on the cover against a "windy" backdrop and a wind-inspired circular pattern. The next three albums (Fire, Earth, and Dawn) will feature Faris, Galuf, and Krile. I want to thank @Otakatt and @Monobrow for their help with the original album art for Wind all those years ago. I had a specific idea for the series back then and we executed on it really well. But given some distance, I've decided I want to change up the look of the series and make things consistent throughout. I'm pretty excited. Anyway look for the real release of Water in the coming weeks. It's all coming together. All that's really left is some preparation stuff on OCR staff's side; trailer, comments, etc. Thanks for being patient.2 points -

For the record, unlike Gario, I don't like sound effects. This is a mess of sound effects. Surprisingly, I don't terribly mind them, once the track gets going. That's successful integration of sound effects into the track. The sound seems like a combination of sounds ripped from the game and simplistic synth design. It's not mixed well, both in terms of levels and frequency balance and placement. The sound design gets better as the track goes on. Sometimes I wonder if the ripped sounds were mapped to the right key, as parts like 1:25 and 2:13 seems to clash badly, but I can't tell to what extent that's a writing problem or a instrument tuning/mapping problem (either can be solved in the writing). A chiptune-y aesthetic is fine, but it still has to be mixed better. I suggest you work on creating some expression in the leads especially. The arrangement pretty cool. The beginning, in part because of the mixing problems, sounds newby, and the ending drags on for quite long. That aside, it develops well, and has some really nice moments, many in the intense 3:00-4:00 area. There's bits of the arrangement that bring to mind the tracker scene, little snippets of melody that does very tracker-y things. The writing is full of references to the source, and I think I heard some other Sonic sources as well in there. Arrangement-wise, I'm a little concerned about the beginning and the long end, but the middle is done well. Still, I wouldn't be comfortable passing this if I was a judge, mostly for the mixing. There's things about the arrangement and sound design to complain about, sure, but it's the mixing that's the big problem here. Get your track levels in order, and use EQ and reverb to give each track its own space in the mix.1 point

Speedrunvania - 1-Minute Metal Medley!
Ivan Hakštok reacted to Chernabogue for a topic
In one minute, you can hear parts of "Prologue", "Stalker", "Wicked Child", "Walking on the Edge", "Poison Mind", "Heart of Fire", "Nothing to Lose" and "Voyager" -- plus the "Death" jingle. Only "Vampire Killer", "Black Night", and "Game Over" were left over. Enjoy! \m/1 point -
@Polo Actually it was MOST of the system references to gamefaqs - they changed their link structure for systems - and we were missing some as well. THAT should be fixed. Should be fixed now; might require clearing cache.1 point

Mid Guitar Input Devices
Nabeel Ansari reacted to AngelCityOutlaw for a topic
You may want to update your post and title a bit since I was confused as to what "mid guitar input devices" meant at first. Anyway, regarding your question at the bottom - no. I actually am a guitarist foremost, but in my opinion, keyboards are the superior controllers for MIDI. It feels a lot more natural to strike keys to trigger sounds than to play what is usually a phony guitar, and it's easier to enter modwheel data in real-time and toggle keyswitches on the fly. With step-record input, you don't even have to be a great pianist to get the idea down and most sample libraries are designed around keyboard input.1 point -
Great album. I only wish I didn't have to take a break to go pee every other song.1 point

Oh man, I heard sixto's BZKR mix years ago and didn't know or at the very least did not remember that it was for this album. I think people will be in for a treat when this drop. Tracklist looks strong even with my little poot there I guess.1 point -

I have my remix arranged and everything. I honestly wanted to get mine done like 2 months ago, but I've been sooooo busy with work. Time flies man! Throwing drums together this week to be able to lay down a solid WIP1 point -
I think it'd be a lot of fun to do! Along with contributing to the art, I'd be happy to put the book together in InDesign.1 point

On the "forums" dropdown menu, the "Social Networking & RSS" icons are gone when browsing the actual forums (whether the Forums Home or any individual thread), although they appear everywhere else, like the front page, ReMix writeups, and lists of systems/albums/organizations/etc.1 point

Tuberz delivered like a badass on the Crystal Cave Room track. More than I asked for actually, like is usual for him. I just need to find the time to set it all in place soon so I can share it on the project forum.. !1 point -
On the system pages for the TurboGrafx-16 and TurboGrafx-CD, the GameFAQs reference links are broken. Here's an update for the former and latter respectively. Also, why is Akumajo Dracula X: Rondo of Blood half in English and half in Japanese title-wise? Why not Devil's Castle Dracula X: Rondo of Blood or Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo?1 point

Yeah those vocals though. Haha! Larry's right, they sound a bit stapled on, perhaps because they are dry. That "huh" is worse to me than the "hey heys." Some of the synth choices sound a bit generic to me, but you've written really well with them. The arrangement is dynamite. Really superduper personalization of this theme, while keeping it recognizable. Nice work, fun listen. YES1 point
