  1. **2019 UPDATE** As of today I am officially taking over as director for this awesome project. Huzzah! I've contacted everyone who was previously involved with the album to gauge their interest in returning to their tracks and continuing their excellent work. However if people are no longer interested in taking part then their source tracks will become available for claiming, so if you're not currently involved and are interested in signing up watch this space! On that note; we do still have 3 tracks that are unclaimed: Dr. Beruga Freedom Call at a Port If you want to claim any of these tracks drop me a message and we'll go from there. I've given everyone two weeks to reply to my messages, so I'll be creating a new 'state of play' post similar to Odai's original one once that time has elapsed. Watch this space, people!

  2. Results time Bundeslang got 6 points and the last place wooden spoon. Silverpool gets the 3rd place with 7 points. Dudley Ghost received 12 points and 2nd place And the winner of PRC385 is TheVideoGamer with 14 points TheVideoGamer congratulations. You got the most points and your song has the most minutes of this round. With such a long entry, it's well deserved. You may pick the source for PRC387. Send the source to me (with a MID/MP3 file, otherwise send a second source with a MID file) by PM, other options are PM me @ ThaSauce or by e-mailing to bambombim@gmail.com (I prefer a PM @Ocremix). Send your sources as fast as you can, but before next Wednesday (16 January 2019), 10:59 AM ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT). Dudley Ghost, as winner of PRC384 you also may select a source for this round (didn't receive it yet). PRC386 already started: You may select any source from any game, but not a source with an OverClocked remix or a source which has been used in PRC before. An overview of the past PRC's can be found in the following links (I recently updated this site): http://sites.google.com/site/bambombim/prc http://bambombim.googlepages.com/PRCRemixList.doc (also downloadable via the link above).

  3. I took my 4-year-old daughter to MagFest this last weekend and gave her the chance to play a bunch of different games. The clear winner, surprising me, was Spyro, which she spent almost 2 hours playing. I had to help her a lot, but she did much better at it than at other games she tried. In retrospect, I shouldn't have been surprised. The platforming is generally very forgiving. Spyro has only two attacks, both of which have very generous hitboxes. And his glide means that he'll go forward if you hit the jump button in midair, which makes simple jumps onto higher platforms easier. Compared to something like Mario games (which I tried her on), there's a lot less coordination required. Anyone have any other suggestions along those lines? Cute aesthetics, low precision requirements, minimal reading required, nothing that really requires explanation? I have the Spyro trilogy (just have to install a PSX emulator), but some more options would be nice.

  4. Hello all and welcome to the second edition of Spin the Wheel! A fun way to showcase appreciation of soundtrack based music in Video Games! Today's video game to remix is here! Be sure to read the rules here! This is to help brush your knowledge about the compo! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Mob5N8UXluhNAUol5mZVyX5yAwUYuAY6KDaPpFzh5Oo/edit?usp=sharing Current games in the wheel: Last weeks winners was a tie from Hoboka, and Ronald Poe! The ones Highlighted in Red are Hoboka's choices that he sent me. The ones Highlighted in Green are Ronald Poe's entries that he sent me. Sadly Ronald only sent me 4 games from 4 systems, so i had to fill in the rest, which are highlighted in Blue. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Mob5N8UXluhNAUol5mZVyX5yAwUYuAY6KDaPpFzh5Oo/edit?usp=sharing The Wheel in Action! https://imgur.com/a/yctFa0t Lets SPIN THE WHEEL! It landed on PS1! The random game that was chosen is....... Driver 2! Download available MIDI files here! https://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/sony/ps1/ Look under Driver 2. Ctrl + F is a great way to search for things you need. Listen to the Soundtrack: Information about the Game and Soundtrack: Driver 2: Back on the Streets (Or if you are from America. It's called Driver 2: The Wheelman is Back) Is a video game released in 2000 by Reflections Interactive, published by Infogrames. It is a sequal to the first game released in 1999 The game involves you driving in cars and completing missions to progress within the story. This involves running from the police, and mobs, doing damage to other cars, and looking for suspects and witnesses. The plot involves searching a dead man after 2 men shot him during a shootout in a bar. They believe this leads to more clues and they recruit 2 officers to help with the investigation. The music was done by 2 guys. Allistair Brimble (Who at this point was an already established composer from the UK) and Richard Narco. The soundtrack follows in the vein of Funk, particularly from the 70's, like Car Movies. The music at times can be energetic, or slow and....er...funky. There isn't much difference in some tracks, and more or less most follow this style. Some tracks though take a more modern approach, especially within the drum programming. It's not the most innovative soundtrack, but there are some gems to be found on here. Compo starts Today at 6th January 2019! and finishes at 20th January 2019! Voting begins on the 20th January 2019 and finishes on the 27th January 2019. I will inform you who has won on the thread! Please submit a valid mp3 file, in decent quality that is less than 20mb. It must be easy to access and download. A ThaSauce page will be set up soon, so if you can then submissions. It's been an on/off situation with ThaSauce, so SoundCloud is a good choice if ThaSauce isn't working for you. Right now nothing is set up, so submissions will have to be external from this thread, via download links, or streaming services. I recommend using SoundCloud as a choice of service! Add a link here on this thread, if you can. You have 2 weeks to mix! Let's see what you have come up with! Good Luck! Since Ronald Poe and Hoboka already won last time, and contributed some games, they can only participate with a Bonus Mix! You cannot vote for Bonus Mix's, but for the people who won, they get a vote that Counts Twice!

  5. Entry submitted! Trism - This was an excellent pick (I hadn't even heard of this game until now)! It definitely is like an 80's action movie ending - victorious and uplifting! Also, thanks, TheVideoGamer, for the additional MIDI! I really appreciate it! I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's entries!

  7. Just checked the ThaSauce page and realized that (as mentioned by Ramaniscence) ThaSauce changed the dates from 2018 to 2019 (as always, ThaSauce only has this and next year as option so if a round is edited in the beginning of january the dates from last year (2018) change to this year (2019)). I edited the dates to a past date so that the songs are visible and downloadable again. Also, if you need something edited at ThaSauce feel free to send me a PM. If you send a PM I get an email notification.

  9. I just realized that I didn't respond to your comment like I had done for everyone else. Thank you so much for listening to my arrangement, and for such thorough feedback. - I originally played the chord progression on a grand piano software instrument, but felt that doing so made my arrangement too similar to the original work. I wanted a tone that retained the same feel as the original piece, but just a tad more mellow so as to allow for more freedom to explore the overall groove. - At first I was reluctant to include the siren as I thought it would muddy the polyphony, but later felt it was a necessary addition in order to thematically link my arrangement to the original version of Jazzy NYC rather than its much more popular remix, Jazzy NYC '99. - Interestingly enough, my initial take did include the James Brown and Lyn Collins "Woo! Yeah" sample, as it is arguably the most defining aspect of the original composition. However, like you, I found the sample too repetitive. I tried separating the sample so that the "yeah" would appear once in a measure, followed by the "woo" once in the next measure, but the result seemed atonal rather than melodic. I wound up scrapping the sample in favor of incorporating the aforementioned siren. - I'm drawn to syncopation, and often try to employ it in my arrangements to varying degrees of success (or at times with no success at all lol). In my college years, I was a huge fan of The Fall of Troy, and their lead guitarist, Thomas Erak, routinely composed songs that had multiple shifts in time signature. Though I don't personally do prog rock arrangements, I still took inspiration from Thomas' composition style. I love the way syncopation makes a short piece seem like several songs played over the space of a much longer period of time, all while still sounding like one cohesive performance. - I've had no reply from the judges yet, by e-mail or here on the forums. I assume that the judges are either really swamped, or that my remix has been lost in the shuffle. Here is hoping for the best. Thank you again!

  10. I'm not a judge, but to my ears this version has plenty of personalization, with its emphasis on leads and arps over groove in the original. Apart from the ending, I don't feel like it's missing anything arrangement-wise, I was plenty of interested throughout and there was a lot of variety in small and large scale (again, if you ask me). Mix/sound is pleasant and e.g. the leads are decidedly on top of the mix, easily listenable like they should be. There's a bit of harmony clashing here and there, for instance at 1:49 the backing is in different key than the descending arpeggio thing. I'll try to find time to timestamp these. I saw I said this already a couple of years ago, oops.. Now back to the ending, it definitely sort of peters out. I've had a couple of arrangements myself where I got feedback that the piece just ends, for a couple I made little codas that resolved properly and that seems to have worked well enough. You could work what you have here into a more assertive coda that ends with a nice resolving chord, instead of things kind of fading out, I feel like there's at least the seed of that there. Or perhaps you could try to make a build-up into a climax at the end there. For my money, once the harmony clashes are sorted out, this is really great listening (and makes me want to re-play the game ...), and definitely making the ending more confident is also worth working on. Again can't speak for evaluation, but this is very close to a fine VGM rearrangement and very close what I'd feel comfortable submitting.
