  1. In case anyone here still has an extra invite with no one to give it to, I really want a key My contact details are in my profile, or you can PM me stuff also. I get back to the States on the 23rd, I'm at a conference with my wife until then (in Riva del Garda, Italy...which sounds great until you realize that it's too cold to swim, I can't afford windsurfing, and I don't speak Italian.)
  2. The Madcatz fightsticks are amazing. Newt, zircon, and myself have the SE version (the one you're probably looking at) and are very happy with them (newt and I have modded/upgraded our sticks with the TE Sanwa parts, not hard to do). Bahamut has the more expensive TE stick. If you're into fighting games at all, I highly recommend one. My SF2 game has been especially helped by it. The only thing is that there's definitely a learning curve -- all four of us mentioned above went through this phase of sucking while we adjusted to things like the difference between a fireball and a dragon punch again. Sounds really basic, but your control will improve IMMENSELY after you make the adjustment.
  3. Despite the fact that there's an OCR panel, I'm still probably not going, as a theme of April is going to be "Don't spend money, you just went to Italy in March". That being said, I'll need some quality beer after all of this Italian wine, and OA's preferred Surly will look amazing after getting back to the States.
  4. Totally not true -- I've answered the door midbattle and nothing happens. It's compeltely turn based...which isn't a bad thing IMO. About the plot, they tend to be hit-or-miss: FF12 was terrible, FFX was good, FFIX was purposely more light-hearted and not comparable to the others, FFVIII was an emo trainwreck trying to be FFVII again. With the first 6 they tend to alternate between "good gameplay" and "good plot". Only FFVI really has both -- FFIV has super-simple level-based gameplay, and FFV has the awesome job system but a lackluster plot. I want to go back to FF12 for a second. It was the best battle system ever conceived easily. It made grinding simple (which was good, because there was a fuckton of grinding to do) and streamlined the game in a GOOD way. From what I have heard, FF13 is streamlining the game in what I consider a BAD way. Completely super-linear the first 30 hours? That was the big criticism of FFX (best plot of the series IMO). I really hope that the game isn't "hold up, win fights" as much as people say. Luckily, I'm off to Italy for two weeks tomorrow, so I'll be able to read the reviews from everyone else here before I decide to buy it.

  6. Am I the only person who enjoyed the English voice acting? While the French is better for sure, the English is still better than most games -- I think we just notice the flaws more because the plot is such a big part (all) of the game. There is one minor character who really stood out as over the top in English, but that's not a big deal to me.
  7. Checked the website, and you're right -- the _demo_ featured ten key scenes from the game, and eventually they were hoping to remake the whole thing. SE must hate money or something -- I'd pay a ton for 3-d console remakes of FFVI and Chrono Trigger. Similarly, localize Seiken Densetsu 3 and release it for the Virtual Console. Despite having downloaded the unofficial English version long ago, I'd pay to support it.
  8. Works for me on Win7 64-bit. This is MUCH harder than MM7 8-bit...am I getting rusty?
  9. Nah. Maybe if they were planning to remake the whole game, but all they wanted to accomplish were four key moments from CT. Surely that doesn't make video game history! Though I'm very impressed with how good everything looks in 3d. Square take note: If a group of fans can make this, surely it won't take you multiple years to give FF7 (or FF6, or CT) a new coat of paint. Oh, and other rom-hackers that actually have the means to complete your projects: Don't release "teaser" videos, don't tell us anything about your project until it's been released to torrent and you can't get rid of it.
  10. The best demake I can think of atm is MM7 8-bit, which is incredible. As far as rom hacks go, here's a list of what's best out there -- I play a TON of them. NES: Mario Adventure Zelda 2005 (replaces all graphics with Link's Awakening stuff and others) Zelda: Outlands Metroid X Megaman 2 Ultra Megaman 4: Minus Infinity (holy crap wtf amazing, though it's only 60% complete) Dragoon X Omega II Castlevania: Chorus of Mysteries Extra Super Mario Bros. Metroid Genocide SNES: Super Demo World: TLC (probably the best hack made to date) Super Metroid Redesign (new physics even! amazing) The Legend of Zelda: Parallel Worlds FFVI Bug Fixes (Vanish --> Doom, Evade bug, a TON of other smaller things) Seiken Densetsu 3 Three-Player mode FFV Bug Fixes (agility weapon stats) Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes (probably never going to be finished, but what's out there is really solid) Yoshi's Island -- Kamek's Revenge Super Mario World 2+ FFVI Hardtype (haven't tried this yet, but looked pretty good) Genesis: Sonic Megamix Knuckles in Sonic 1
  11. The bonus bosses from Ninja Gaiden Black's Mission mode are certainly candidates. Especially when you have to fight more than one of them at once...
  12. Sorry I wasn't around for friday gaming -- my wife was sick, and I decided it'd be better to take care of her. Hope everyone else enjoyed it!
  13. That's really sweet -- if only they'd come up to the twin cities afterwards, haha.
  14. I'd like to play sometime, this Friday looks open.
  15. I know it's older than you usually play, prophet, but IMO TIE Fighter is the best space game ever made easily. The gameplay still feels fresh and modern even if the graphics aren't all that great. I highly recommend giving it a shot if you have access to a copy somewhere. (Note: the re-release DOES work on modern Windows systems)
  16. This was surprisingly fun when me and DS tried it a few days ago -- anyone feel free to hit me up on Steam/IRC and ask if I'm up for it.
  17. My only problem with the "heal after battle" idea is that I feel that Chrono Cross was damn near the easiest RPG ever as a result of it. I want _some_ challenge, and am hoping that the mechanic is used to make normal battles a worthwhile use of my time, instead of just allowing me to steamroll the game without thinking about how to use the (awesome) battle system like in Chrono Cross.
  18. nope Hopefully some of us get in for the 2nd wave though!
  19. BattleForge is now free to play for PC. DarkeSword and I had a blast trying the quickplay mode today, and it'd be even better with more players -- go get it!
  20. ITT zircon hates on good ideas from Capcom -- They've done large casts well before. I sincerely doubt we'll see it become Marvel 2 where only four characters see use (storm, sentinel, magneto, psylocke).
  21. Nice! Glad to hear that Sega didn't drop the ball -- a good sign of things to come?
  22. If the info doesn't include lockon info, it probably does NOT. The technology behind it was effectively a hardware based rom patcher, which is why those of us who emulate it have to load separate roms to get Knuckles into Sonic 2/3.
  23. looks fun as hell -- too bad the version in the video isn't publicly available.
