  1. Seeing the picture gave me an idea: Imagine a 3D game filled with large levels and open areas (think N64 Rare games), where you can run really fast, and jump pretty high too. Except you're carrying a giant sword, so it takes you a while to build up momentum, and once you get going, there's no slowing down. And the sword weighs twice as much as the speedy hedgehog who's holding it, resulting in insanely fun spinning physics. And you control this sword by moving the Wii remote, and watching as the massive blade slowly changes its course. Basically all you'd do is run around in an attempt to pick up as much speed as possible, start your hedgehog spinning until he's a speeding Helicopter of Death, and then jump and SMAAAAASH into any number of targets: small robots, giant robots, breakable walls that reveal hidden areas, load-bearing walls that hold up Robotnic's secret underground laboratory (cue epic HOLY CRAP THE CEILINGS ARE COLLAPSING RIGHT BEHIND ME ultra-high-speed escape sequence!) Wow, I want that game. Right now My prediction: Controlling Sonic in "Sonic and the Black Knight" will feel almost as fun and liberating as controlling this "Black Knight".
  2. Lots to say: Singing started out great, but off-sounding notes start appearing, and then dominate during the chorus. I'm not a fan of the big volume fluctuations in the voice either... The synth at the beginning sounded quite out of place to me. Firstly because its timing is different than the rest of the instruments. Secondly because it didn't really fit with the Nature theme. Don't get rid of it though!! Don't know if it's just me, but I find it's really noticeable when stuff plays with slightly off timing. There's a HUUUGE delay between the drums and the tinkly instrument that starts at 1:43. In the beginning section, it's the drums that are delayed. There are other imperfections too, but they're more forgivable. Doesn't help that the singing's timing is off in some places too And finally: when the "music box" at the end starts, it's giving off a serious "Haunted Hell" vibe. The quietening right at the end sounds a little anti-climactic too. I think it'd sound a lot better if the music box started out quieter, and then ended louder. But this song really grows on you... each time I listen to it, it sounds better XD Might not mean much after all my criticism, but, everything else is superb
  3. Egad, irony (or something of the sort)! I've seen maybe 2.5 episodes of each of those shows, and they happened to include those two episodes! Improbable Reference Getter, AWAAAAAAAAYYY...! ...unless my memory is fuzzy and it's just one TV show reference you're talking about...
  4. I'd like to see a program that shows the Wii remote's tracked position with/without this new 1:1 attachment, so we can see how crappy the old accelerometer tracking really was in comparison. The gesture recognition in some Wii games is just... so horrid.
  5. Slightly inappropriate given the situation, but: watch DrumUltimA's sig while you listen to this song. It's guaranteed to make you smile =) Holy #$%@, permission to turn it into a YTMND?!!?? =D Just kidding, I'm far too lazy...
  6. My thoughts as I enter this thread: "It can't be THAT bad, can it? .... wha huh?? no, NO, NOOOOOOO!!!"
  7. The way I see it, it needs to involve a weapon from a videogame. Though it could also involve a lot of original design. In my opinion, these examples would be acceptable: - A re-imagination of the Biggoron Sword that looks little like the original, but is recognizable because it's huge and Link is holding it, or he's using it against an enemy from Ocarina of Time. - An original weapon design (alone), but with certain elements that make it CLEAR that it's from a certain game (e.g. you can tell it's Ivy's sword because it's a freaking whip sword. Or you can tell it's the Master Sword because it has a purple handle with the triforce symbol.) - A character/unit/creature from the Warcraft universe holding a completely original weapon design. - A drawing of Samus pointing her smoking arm cannon at a big-ass explosion in the background. (But that's not quite something a weapon designer would want to draw most, is it?) - A weapon in a place/setting that makes it clear what game it's from. - A weapon of a certain style that's drawn in an art style that makes it clear what game it's from (e.g. drawn in Okami's style, or Killer 7's style). Things that I think would NOT be acceptable: - An original weapon design where you can't tell what game it's from at all (e.g. no clues in the background or on the weapon or anywhere), even if the weapon design was inspired by a certain game. I haven't started yet, but my entry's gonna be a little less "weapon-y" than most of those things I listed... or rather, a big portion will involve drawing non-weapons. [Edit] With what I said there, I should add that you should really have a game in mind when you design/draw your weapon(s).
  8. You have no idea how much the stylus + variable-width brush helps for me - I avoid colouring with the mouse if I can help it.
  9. Another 1.5 years, and it won't be 200X anymore!! =O Also, it would be kind of fitting to see 9 lead into X, considering X is the Roman numeral for 10... but I still hope there'll be a Mega Man 10
  10. But those lines, they're drawn with so much tenderness and perfection, round and delicate like the first drops of dew on a September octopus. Seriously, when I first opened it I thought there was water shooting straight at me out of the monitor, but after the initial shock I began to wonder what would compel you to enter such a startling photograph. After realizing that it was in fact a drawing, it took me a week to convince myself that you hadn't stolen original FF6 artwork from the instruction manual, and had in fact drawn it with your own hand, or at least your right foot.
  11. Hmm... do you have your tablet set to the "mouse" mode, or "pen" mode? I find it extremely hard to use pen mode (where parts of the pad map 1-to-1 with parts of the screen), it's pretty much impossible for me to get used to. If it's the same problem you're having, set it to Mouse mode and set the Acceleration to zero, then adjust the Mouse Speed to your liking. As for progress on our entries... I have a funny idea, but I have that feeling everyone else has thought of it already (or, part of it at least). Well, I'm bound to have a lot of fun with this one =D Also: Anyone have any tips (physical, software, or otherwise) for making crisp lines of varying thickness? I have a pretty shaky grasp when it comes to drawing soft lines with the stylus... and I'm not quite perfect with a real pen either (I always make at least one mistake that ends up really bugging me )... Bummerdude? Linkjing? ...Dhsu??
  12. I can't wait! *goes forwards in time to Monday night and comes back* Oooh, nice! I love the part where Sweet Tooth- nah, I'll try not to spoil it for everyone else
  13. Even after drawing that wicked scythe?? Aww... =( Just draw a pic of Death USING the scythe, and you've satisfied the theme =D
  14. Alright, after about 2 seconds of contemplation: I'm doing either Soul Calibur or Metroid. Or Mega Man. Or Pac-man. ... Or Castlevania. Back when the FAC theme was Castlevania, I partially finished a drawing of Death getting hit in the face with a book.... "smacking Death in the face" as it were... oh dang, those books are SUB-weapons! Better stick to Metroid then.
  15. Congrats! Haha, you're not going to choose "MS Paint" for next month's theme, are you? ..... And to those who got relatively low scores *coughmecough*, this voting system is more or less designed to choose a single winner, rather than to rank each piece. Sucks for Cobalt =/ If only the instructions were to vote for the best game...
  16. Oh yeah, I was thinking of 7 I can't remember if 8 had a good shop system or not, but I didn't like that game nearly as much as the classics... especially in terms of art and sound design - even the kids' drawings in the credits were better than the in-game boss designs!! Back on topic: yay 9!!
  17. I won't deny the usefulness of the items - just the method collecting money, I thought it involved a little too much "grinding".
  18. Ack, I remember that tedious gameplay element! Yes, let's focus gameplay on collecting nuts! As if 8 weapons that you barely ever use isn't enough... sorry, nothing against you personally, it's just not my thing Anyway... there's pretty much no way I'm not getting this game. As long as they don't channel stupidity from the Megaman Anniversary Collection and make menus, saving systems, and controls that are horribly designed and buggy. yeesh....
  19. SPOILERS ahoy: I loved their vision of humanity, and how they portrayed it in a consistent manner. And details galore... before that "Confidential" video from the president, I think I saw the words "For auto-pilot eyes only" =P And I absolutely loved the physical battle between the captain and the ship's autopilot. There's this intricate system in place to be all-knowing, all-powerful and in complete control - but not if the captain can physically overpower the silly wheel! One thing that was really incredible for me though: We've all seen movies with a romantic flying scene (Superman 2, Superman Returns, Aladdin), where it tries to be to be all beautiful and awe-inspiring. This was the first movie I've seen where it actually succeeded, for me. Stunning space-scape, and the ship's massive thrusters were incredible. And I'm pretty sure I've never heard such frequent and widespread laughter from the audience at a movie before. What's sort of ironic though is that I went there to see a different movie (which was sold out).
  20. I don't have any PlayStation systems.... Would you recommend acquiring it by illegal means??? =O Heh, don't answer that. Well, looks like I'm gonna go... place....... *doesn't download any illegal ROMs at all*
  21. Would you recommend this movie to someone who's never heard of Twisted Metal before? I'm pretty curious to see how it'll turn out, but I don't want to be bored because I know nothing about the games...
  22. The best part is the fact that he tripped. And that it's only 17 seconds long. [Edit] (You might want to turn the volume down for this one...) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SND8G-I4XR4&NR=1 [Edit]
  23. Amazing stuff! This will be the toughest time I've ever had voting in this contest... Also, re-re-re-submitted: http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/3644/startropicsfinished3gt2.png Update the first post if you want, Atma; but I won't blame you if you don't Damn, I like this version SO much better though!
