  1. I'm positive they're trying to ask whether the computers are complete dunces like in Melee, not how hard it is to beat them. For example in Melee the CPU's wouldn't recognize when, say, there's an opponent charging a smash right beside them, or there's a giant PK Flash heading their way, or a Kirby Air Ride star is about to crash down on them - a human in any of these conditions would either run the hell away or charge the attacker, do SOMETHING smart to avoid getting hit, but the CPUs don't know what's what and get hit every time - they simply CANNOT see it coming, whereas a human can CLEARLY see the attack coming seconds before it arrives. Are Brawl's CPUs smarter and more human in this respect? Does "cpug" mean CPU Gannondorf? Man, there's cryptic acronyms for EVERYTHING!! And what the heck is a "combo"?
  2. No kidding. Do we need an official "don't argue about skill required for using/not using items" rule for this thread? Or are we all mature enough to finally drop it? If anyone argues about items I'm going to start counting down from 5, and then keep going down until one sixteenth.... you do NOT want me to get to a sixteenth! I would also like to see more about Wario and Bowser. And WHERE'S THE SAMUS SPECIAL MOVES UPDATE???
  3. 175 billion people, eh? Well that argument IS interesting... I demand you produce the names of these 175 billion people! Or at least an explanation of where these people suddenly came from. Are you creating an army of mischievous clones... billions of clones who make uninteresting arguments about Smash Bros.??! If so, how did you make these clones, and on which continent are they hidden?
  4. Does this mean that boxes and barrels and capsules no longer randomly explode??? =D ...Or am I just getting my hopes up?
  5. I really hope they got rid of those "unpredictable and uncounterable" things, like exploding boxes and capsules appearing on you. I mean, they should at the very least have had an option to turn off explosive containers WITHOUT turning all items off. Is that what the yellow box is in this image? (top right corner) If you can turn those off (plus bomb-ombs, healing items, hammers, starman, and other more "unfair" items), then I think SOME items in tournament play could actually work. However I know absolutely nothing about tournament play, so... yeah. Items like Motion Sensor Bombs don't really favour the player who picks them up so much - a motion mines, banana peels, and paper fans only tourney sounds fun and pretty fair Also on Atma's comment on how Brawl's items are more powerful than Melee's: Melee's items were pretty useless, I'm happy Brawl's can actually change the direction of the fight like in SSB64 =D The items in Melee mostly just caused spontaneous combustion... But I'm really posting to ask about this: Can anyone tell me what stage this is? Or is it Subspace Emissary?
  6. So it turns out there's a guy who looks much more like the Nice Work Guy named Javier Villareal. He and Jose Luis Villareal (possibly that guy in that face comparison pic?) are in a band called Bronco. The Coop, I've sent you a PM with a link to a website containing a massive amount of images - personally I don't think he's the real NWG (his skin is too light for one thing). I think someone must have mistaken him for the NWG because he's SMILING ALL THE TIME, and his smile and moustache look exactly like the NWG's. Anyway, if the Coop posts a face comparison on the guy, we can finally put this rumour to rest
  7. I didn't mind the voice at all actually, and could hear everything clearly. My main complaint is that there were a few images that didn't stay on the screen long enough, and I had to rewind and even pause to actually see them. You can't rewind in a presentation, so that's a biggie. Here are all the slide issues I found: - The "Uncanny valley" slide was really short (lengthen only a bit, since it's not exactly a main point in the presentation.) - You say "The majority of games are poorly written. Now there are exceptions, and some offenders are worse than others". The "Resident Evil box" slide pops up - is Resident Evil showing Good story or Bad story?? (I know which one now, but at first I was confused, and it may confuse viewers as well, even if they're not familiar with the games. This confusion may continue when the RE box is shown later on). - In my opinion Pac-man Pie Chart is too awesome to display in such a short window; although it does show a pie chart and pac-man (which relates to your point and is video-game themed), you can barely finish reading the title. I'll admit though, it WAS literally a "quick look" - "Games with excellent writing" image is way too short IMO. Audience members may want to check out some of these superb titles afterwards. Also since Psychonauts already gets a decent chunk of presentation time, maybe move the "System Shock 2" box to the front so the title is visible Well, that's all I've gotta say, little nitpicky things like those. Although (and this is probably due to lack of sleep), my attention did start to wane about 5 minutes in - quite possibly because my brain realized "This is starting to become longer than a Yahtzee review!". If you get a lot of "I can't keep up!!" feedback, I'd suggest adding an intermission in the middle (a 2 to 5 second "Intermission" screen should do it - just make sure to choose another good song). Oh yes, I forgot to say that it was great and very enjoyable - 10/10 thumbs up!
  8. WOAH, since when did I have 1000 posts?! I already have almost one TENTH of The Coop's posts... that's a little scary. Time for me to slow down a little... Is this the "NWG is an evangelist" thing? Wow, it feels so strange to think of him as a person, rather than... a picture.
  9. I didn't read the interview, but I just watched the first two videos.... now all text looks extremely short and fat Very interesting by the way, definitely recommended to anyone on this site.
  10. So Luigi's final smash is called "Negative Zone".... what could that possibly refer to?? When I first saw it I assumed it had something to do with Luigi's Mansion or haunted/ghost stuff... it reminded me of a particular scene from Beetlejuice actually.
  11. Sorry, can't... I actually DID join the navy I'm heading out tomorrow... the Canadian navy allows cigarettes on their ships, right? Or at the very least, they occasionally confiscate boatloads of cigars, right??
  12. Well I just listened to 'aquacadence' and 'Thin Glow', and I certainly don't have the sudden urge to Join The Navy! I'd kill for a smoke right about now though... strange, considering I've never tasted the smooth, refreshing flavour of a cigarette before.
  13. Alright, we need to think of captions for this. "Back off dinosaur, or the Princess dies!" "Yoshi, do what she says!!" "In retrospect, styling her hair with Crazy Glue was one of Samus's worst ideas ever. While she's getting used to dragging Yoshi around on her thigh, Zelda hasn't yet forgiven her for putting glue on the toilet seat." And then there's the obvious: "Yoshi desperately attempts to prove he's not gay, but his aim is a little off..." By the way, if you look at Samus' hair... that could very well be the Havok Physics Engine in action. Ooooh, exciting !!
  14. Tonight's Dojo update has a whole bunch of little tricks and stuff, including: Why.. WHY does Gannondorf not have a projectile and a reflector move?!?!! That's ALL HE DOES!!!
  15. If four people who are good at Brawl play together in a random online matchup, none of them will die within 2 minutes... and eventually all the good players will stop playing that mode, leaving only newer players. So instead of multiple online tiers or skill levels, there's just one tier: beginners with 2-minute attention spans who don't care about lag. I've played a few PC games where the online mode is overrun by that denomination... it's not pretty.
  16. Reading Smashboards makes me laugh, and then cry.
  17. Here's one of the best Metroid remixes (and certainly THE best of this song) that I've heard: http://stuff.herograw.org/frustrating/neskimos+metroidnorfairtenementblues.mp3 Even the remix of that song in Zero Mission is one of the best songs in the game. The melody of the original is so bad, it leaves so much freedom for the remixer.
  18. Dude, ALL the characters are better than Melee Kirby and worse than SSB64 Kirby. I want some REAL answers! Also I agree with Cynical, it's silly to judge how good Brawl characters are based on what they could/couldn't do in Melee...
  19. How is Kirby? He's gotta be somewhere between SSB64 and Melee, but is he above or below average this time?
  20. Failure indeed. Suddenly the name "Landmaster" becomes invariably ironic. I listened to the MP2 track, turns out it's the rarely heard Super Metroid Brinstar green place remix from MP2's multiplayer mode!! Superb choice =D And does anyone else think that the intro voiceover for the Brinstar (Metroid 1) song sounds like a toy commercial? It's not the first thing I thought of, but after someone else noticed it and told me, to me it'll forever sound like an action figure commercial.
  21. Are you talking about "The last metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace"? Haha, I didn't think that was Samus either, just a nondescript narrator voice (and a male voice at that). But back in the day, text = speech, which means Samus does "talk" quite a bit in Super Metroid's intro. And let's not forget Metroid Fusion. All along I just assumed the lack of voice acting in Subspace Emissary was so they didn't have to record the voices, animate the mouths, and time the dialog to fit with the action and music for MULTIPLE LANGUAGES. I mean, adding voices to the cutscenes would have used a horrible amount of resources, if they were to do it right. Also it would have been totally weird if Fox, instead of gesturing to Diddy to follow him, says "I've had a lot of bad experiences with monkeys, but... come with me if you want to live!!" To which Diddy replies "How do you know my language?!! Aren't you supposed to be in the future or something? And what was that big lizard?" "It's a Pokemon, I don't have time to explain-" "What's Pokemon?" "It's a massive cash-grabbing franchise that- I said I don't have time to explain!!" I think it's a hoax so everyone who owns Brawl wears down the taunt buttons on their controllers JUST A LITTLE, and the worldwide profit on Gamecube controller sales goes up a couple grand. Either that or it only works if you start as ZSS, and you have to do the taunt thing REALLY fast. But seriously, it can't be that much harder than wave-dashing or ass-banging, can it?
  22. Shit, awesome Dojo update! For those too lazy to check it out: You can switch between Samus and Zero Suit Samus mid-fight by pressing your up/down/up taunt buttons really fast. Also there's a movie that I'm in the process of watching...
  23. So, crouching and walking at the same time (i.e. crawling) is still in the game, right? Is it actually useful for anything? What do Samus, Kirby, Metaknight, Dedede, and ROB look like when they crawl??
  24. Nice video - the fact that he got the camera to follow only one Mario shows it's some pretty impressive hacking, and not just a series of video recordings. Whoever wins advances to Round 2 against Super-Duper Sombrero's avatar, and then Round 3 with his sig.
