  1. Love this. I love this track. When it kicks in at :52 seconds, that's what really gets me in the pit of my gut. I love the music here! Like others have mentioned, though, I would like to hear some reverb on this and some better mixing. It's just so in your face with no reverb. However, that's not going to stop me from immensley enjoying the piece. Fans of strings should definitely check this out. One of the more realistic string pieces on the site - and that is certain.
  2. When people talk about having high standards for tracks, I always think about this one. It's... pretty bad. I mean, there's nothing to it. But I think the reason I like it is because the source music is so good. It kinda makes me laugh, actually. I dunno why. But I just really like it. I implore you to give it a download and check it out. You'll see what I'm talking about in the "bad" sense. Nothing is inherently "bad," per se, but with this, you'll see it almost sounds like random wackiness attacking your skull. But for me, with this track, it works. That goofy, doubled-delayed guitar part really gets me, and with that off-the-cuff synth sound... I dunno. It's hard to put emotion into words sometimes. And that's why we have music So something about this represents a messed up portion of my head where, when I hear this, all is right with the world. Check it out!
  3. I've always loved the source tune on this one. I started my own really funky arrangement of it. I still need to finish it, but it's hard to when this track already exists and it's so perfect. I think this is one of Mazedude's finest arrangements, and just one of the best FFIV arrangements period. The atmosphere captured here is uncanny. It always envokes feeling from me. I imagine a lot of people listen to it and it immediately takes them to another place. Another moon, even. Great for Halloween and Horror CD mixes, too. If you don't have this, check out this fine piece of work.
  4. Ah, old-school Mazedude. This is a great one. The slap bass at the beginning is sick and I love it. I love the synth leads and the way it builds. Too bad they wouldn't put this in the new Smash for the Wii, 'cause it'd really be awesome for Pit. I barely remember playing the game at all, but with music this good, it really doesn't matter. As usual, this has that juicy tracker-meat Mazedude-ness to it, so if you like the Dude, you should love this. Get his old "Japanese Swamp" mix, too, if you like this one.
  5. You can always hear how much fun Mazedude is having when you listen to one of his arrangements. Plus I just love that it always sounds like it's a video game. Mazedude has an uncanny ability to create VGM remixes that sound like they should replace the game's original audio. Kinda like what the companies do when they put out arranged albums. It didn't used to be orchestral arrangements and stuff. There was a lot of simpler stuff like this on those arranged CDs - Chrono Trigger, Nintendo samplers, and so on. But anyway, if you played Plok! that makes it even better because the game was so damn weird that this music is the only thing that makes sense out of it. I personally wasn't too big of a fan of the game OR the music, but I do love this mix.
  6. Back in the day... Man, back in the day... I sure miss JAXX. His arrangement of virt's original Q*Bert music always got us so pumped. I love this arrangement so much that I learned how to play it, just like Necronomicon said. Guitar arrangements are a dime a dozen these days, so this one really has a lot of nostalgia for me. Overall, it's a good chip-ish sounding rock tune. I wish JAXX was still remixing, but at least we have stuff like this to remember him by.
  7. I think this one was removed or something, but if you can find it, check it out. This theme has always been one of my favourites from the Mario games and I arrange it any chance I get. McVaffe lays it down nice and simple here. Great percussion, good sounds, clean production and just typical McVaffe-goodness. A good arrangement of one of my favourites. If you liked the Super Mario Bros. 2 music, check this out.
  8. So funky. So, so funky. Great groove on this. And historically, this is what it all comes back to for po. So many of his tracks feature a snippit of this groove in some form or another. Sort of like Totaka's Song to Nintendo games, this track seems to have influenced po's work dramatically. That said, this is probably the weakest of his arrangements in that it's barely there, but I love it. I think if po were to do this now, there'd be madcat soloing over the thing, which would rock, because that's how the original was - a melody with a bunch of soloing. Either way, this piece is a great benchmark in po's repertoire. Definitely worth checking out.
  9. This is still one of my all-time favourite arrangements. Fantastic stuff. I love the groove, I love the samples, and I love that Rhodes break-down like nothing else. Great job, Marc. This is my favourite mix of yours. Definitely still gets played often after all of this time. Hope to hear more of your stuff sometime! Where've you been?
  10. Best shit I've ever heard. Also, just sign for it. I've been signing for packages since I was a child.
  11. Seems like there's a big nod to Silvestri here which I love. If that's the case, you did a great job. If it's not the case, you might listen to too much Silvestri? Anyway, awesome stuff! Great orchestral arrangement.
  12. Yes. and Yes (but not me). Watiress? I'll have a large order of a_rival, please?
  13. Cool. Nice presentation. I'll be keeping an eye on this and watching for a compo for arranging w/ vox. Rock.
  14. Wow, man, I was really impressed with this stuff. Do you have a gear list somewhere? What's your educational background? Got both albums and I really am enjoying every track I'm hearing. Excellent!
  15. Yeah, the sooner you make your plans the better. PLANE TICKETS DO NOT GET CHEAPER THE CLOSER YOU BUY THEM TO THE DATE OF THE FLIGHT! Some people have this misconception and it has prevented them from missing out on good times. Buy your plane tickets as soon as possible. Also, I'm not 100% going, but there are a lot of people like Ailsean, X-Strike Studios, etc. Check out the forums on VGMix to find a bigger list of attendees. Soap Box: If you want to go but don't think you can because of money, and if you have a driver's license and a little discipline, don't miss this. Really. Go get a job at a Mom 'n' Pop restaurant or something for a month. Part Time. Save all that money and you'll have enough for a plane ticket. And then from there keep the job (because working builds character - well, for most) and get at least $100 for food on your trip (and for merchandise if you want T-Shirts, band CDs, games, etc.). So you fly out from whatever airport and land in D.C. You can call the hotel and they'll send a shuttle for free to come and get you (but always tip your driver - it's a personal service). You can always crash out on someone's floor. And as long as you don't get belligerently drunk, you're going to have a good time. Video Game Music nerds are probably the absolute coolest, low-drama, fun loving people you can rock with it. Egos are tossed out the window (except for mine because it's so freakin' big) and everyone can hang out, have a blast, and the in-joke just start blowing up like a volcano. So don't have a "can't do" attitude. It's totally worth the experience of going and hanging out with these like-minded nerds if you want to do it in the slightest. Nevermind the fact that you'll be seeing ten bands(or at least musical acts) that are playing live video game music. And there's no video game music concert that has more to offer than MAGFest. /Soap Box Good times!
  16. Shit's good, bro! My favourite "Magus" remix. Awesome shit. You just keep getting better. rock.
  17. I've dilly-dallied on pieces for years. That's not a big deal.
  18. Wow. Not sure why there has to be so much controversy. I thought that being a girl got you a "no bullshit" pass. I guess those are the old days. pixietricks is more than capable. Larry's on the panel and everyone loves him. He doesn't know shit about music. But he's more than qualified to be a judge, no? I'm confident that pixietricks knows more about music than most considering her education. Just because she's small doesn't means she should be tossed aside. Afterall, she may loves this site and community more than anyone, and isn't that someone you'd want to be in charge of said site and community? Gotta stop the judge hate. However, feel free to keep hating the judge's panel. Who the fuck is BGC?!
  19. Not goat's best. Samples here are bad. Go to goat's site and get all of his other stuff - amazing stuff. This "Froggy Mosh" not so much. http://www.powergoat.com/
