  1. Baron Knoxburry - Explosions of an Esper Half Breed remix of Final Fantasy VI - Metamorphosis i included a screenshot i found on teh interwebs with Terra in 'morph' mode i used to be aneurySm but now I am Baron Knoxburry ---------------------------------------------------------------- Hey, cool to hear from aneurySm/Baron again. He had a cool FF4 mix that Prot absolutely hated. http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=ff6 - "Metamorphosis" (ff6-125.spc) Never played FF6, so I never even realized this "Terra" variation was in there. Cool stuff done here to change the feel with some crunk bass and beats, although the melodic treatment and structure was nonetheless near-verbatim. Add more interpretation and variation with the source melodies and this would be in a lot better shape related to the current standards. The arrangement also needed to be developed further; 2:09 is pretty short. At that length, there shouldn't have been any repetition. Still a fun track and a cool genre adaptation; I enjoyed it. NO
  2. Game: Sins of a Solar Empire Pieces Remixed: The Return/Emerging Empire. Source URL: (My net is shaped so I cut the file size down and shortened the track to focus on the parts I remixed) Title: Spread Dat Culture For this one I took the main string melody from The Return to shape the majority of the song. The rhodes mainly focus on this, with the rest of the instruments built around it. Changed the key to C Minor. I also incorporated some parts of the Emerging Empire into the melody. It's a short piece, but I was happy where it ended and didn't want to extend it any further for fear of diluting the effects. ~TO --------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks to Lee of course for hooking up some clips of the source tunes. Time to bust out the stopwatch. Sins of a Solar Empire Original Soundtrack - (22) "The Return" & (17) "The Emerging Empire" Loved the production and execution the whole way, so I'm just left making sure the source usage passes the sniff test. This needed more than 91.5 seconds of source usage for >50% and my YES. "The Return": :11-:25, :38-:43, :50-1:09, 1:50-1:52, 2:12-2:29; also used very quietly throughout :25-:50 "The Emerging Empire": 1:24-1:27, 1:34-1:42, 1:44-1:47, 2:32-2:40, 2:42-2:49; also used very quietly from 2:03-2:05 That's about as best as I can pick it up, which is about 86 seconds of overt stuff and 22 seconds of extremely quiet usage. For me, that's enough to call it barely over the line. I could be missing some connections, but it's a moot point for me. YES
  3. Hey David, It's been a while. Life has taken me on quite a trip since I left the vg arrangement community. I never thought i'd come back and do another arrangement. The one thing that always draws me back is the music. I was listening to the secret of mana soundtrack recently and these three tracks caught my attention, "Phantom and a Rose", "A Wish" and "I Won't Forget".they are flowing ethereal songs. Little bit more calm. I love this soundtrack, it's so vibrant on the snes, I'm amazed at how Kikuta was able to get these songs sounding so great. So anyways, here's the scoop. It turned out to be more of a simple orchestral tune medley. I did it all live, just me, my keyboard, sound module synthesizer and "audacity". I don't have all the tools I once had, but I had a ton of fun making it. I didn't want to stray from the original too much. I love the sound and feel of the original. It's more like chill background stuff, not like the more epic orchestral medleys. Here it is. Game: Secret of Mana Original Titles: "Phantom and a Rose", "A Wish" and "I Won't Forget" Arrangement Title: Time Flows Like a River Remixer: JAXX Website: http://feelingthroughsound.org Link: (final) -Patrick Jacks -------------------------------------------------------------- http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=sd2 - "A Wish" (sd2-16.spc), "Rose and Ghost" (sd2-03.spc) & "I Won't Forget" (sd2-03.spc) The solo string used from :40-:49 wasn't executed well; the articulations didn't sound natural, and the unnatural decay was exposed at :49 in the transition to "Rose and Ghost." Just being a devil for the details, as the rest of this mix was put together reasonably well. I liked the little personalized, interpretive touch of 2:28-2:33, but that was basically it on that level. Overall, there's nothing wrong with the performance or overall execution, beside a lack of developed transitions. I didn't mind the fadeout ending. (In this case, it stuck out as more of a negative due to the lack of interpretation, but there's notion inherently wrong with a fadeout.) I've got Secret of Mana bias, so I enjoyed this cover. Regardless, the structure was just too similar, so the arrangement approach was too conservative, something Pat was pretty aware of anyway. I know from your history that you can get more interpretive when you want to, Pat, so if you feel compelled in the future to make any more game arrangements that show off more interpretation, I'd love to hear 'em! Glad to see (and hear) you revisiting VGM. NO
  4. Remixer - jinn Real Name - Bryan deLeon E-mail - shinkoshiraigaa@hotmail.com Game - Chrono Trigger Song - Undersea Palace Comment - There's a static sound @ 1:57. That was intentional [its an old record player] The title 'Undersea Vibes' comes from the vibraphone that I used in the song, but when I recorded them I didn't turn them on so there's no vibrato effect. My bad. ------------------------------------------------------ http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=ct - "Undersea Palace" (ct-308.spc) The recording quality was a little too much on the lo-fi side, and parts ended up bleeding into each other too much, particularly during the triple guitars from 1:38-1:57. I liked the instrumentation choices, but the execution here was too sloppy, particularly on the guitar soloing. I don't mind a loose playing style, but at times it was arguably too loose. Badass effects from 1:10-1:19 though. The acoustic stuff at 1:57 with the vinyl sounds was a cool concept but not explored at all. The backing patterns were also too repetitive, and I wasn't feeling some of them being lifted wholesale from the original; I would have rearranged those a bit just to add some personalization to this. More interpretation and fleshing out the arrangement further is what the doctor ordered. NO
  5. Nutritious Justin Medford NutritiousMultimedia@gmail.com http://nutritiousmultimedia.googlepages.com 16520 Final Fantasy IV Red Wings, Main Theme This song is part of the FFIV Project. This is actually the first song that I created using my new Orchestral setup (EWQLSO). It originally started out with my free samples/soundfont setup, but I upgraded halfway through and ended up starting this from scratch. It wasn't my original intent to move from Red Wings to the FFIV Main Theme, but it seemed to be a nice progression during the quieter sections of the piece (there's a bit of me playing the flute for the first round of the Main Theme). I also touch on FF7 Anxious Heart on the intro a bit to create some tension, with a couple other really small allusions to other songs as well. This song has been a blast to create since the FF4 soundtrack is one of my favorites and played a big role in getting me into music in general. The Red Wings theme at the beginning of the game has stuck with me in particular, so I'm glad to have a chance to remix it. Enjoy. -Justin ------------------------------------------------------------ http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=ff4 - "Red Wings" (ff4-02.spc) & "Main Theme" (ff4-07.spc) Nice intro, including a cameo of the Prelude. Good accenting of the Red Wings melody with the supporting writing. The string articulations from 1:19-1:21 sounded unnatural, but it was covered up reasonably enough. Wish the drums had a bit more presence, as they had a good sound. The dropoff at 1:54 felt awkward, and the brass was more exposed until 2:15. Nice woodwind stuff at 2:15 moving over to the "Main Theme". From that point on, the samples had some more noticeable & persistent articulation issues (worst offender, 3:20). But they weren't major to me and the overall execution was reasonable, bolstered by a strong, creative arrangement. Once Justin refines the articulations of his sounds, his work will sound that much stronger. The was a pop in the left channel at 3:32 that needs to be fixed. The resolution at 4:28 also sounded unintentionally meandering; it kind of lost sense of the "Main Theme" melody and didn't end strongly. Aside from that, pretty smooth sailing. Keep improving, bro. YES
  6. Dear OCRemix, I would like you to consider my next remix…..with care Contact Information § DarkMessenger § Niels van der Leest § info@nielsvanderleest.nl § www.nielsvanderleest.nl § Forum user ID: 19586 Submission Information § Song Titel: “Have Mercy” § Link to song: § Game: Command & Conquer Renegade § Remixed song: “No Mercy” § Composer: Frank Klepacki § Publisher: EA § System: PC I made this remix for a MOD of Unreal tournament 3….”UT3 ?” I hear you think…yes J Renegade X is a C&C Renegade based mod for Unreal Tournament 3. Summary: Renegade X (formerly known as Renegade 2007) is a mod dedicated to recreating C&C Renegade in the new generation engine, the Unreal Engine 3. We all believe the Command and Conquer series is a very special one, and its fans have been following its games for over a decade now. C&C has been one of the most successful videogame series in the RTS Genre. Our modding team believes that C&C Renegade is truly a hidden gem in the FPS genre. Anyway, just last week I decided to make myself an account on MODDB. After a few days I got in touch with the person behind this mod asking me if I could do a remix of “No Mercy” for their media release….and so I did The original sounded very 80’s (which isn’t bad off course) but I wanted it to be a bit more boombastic. I choose for an orchestra remix with additional guitars and all. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. Sincerely, Niels van der Leest info@nielsvanderleest.nl www.nielsvanderleest.nl www.myspace.com/nielsvanderleest --------------------------------------------------------------- I could only find "No Mercy" on the Tiberian Dawn soundtrack (the original C&C), so I grabbed that one. Not even sure it was on the other versions, but I don't know the series well enough. The Music of Command & Conquer - (02) "No Mercy" The changes here sounded cool, including the new instrumentation for the melody. Nice new orchestral writing at :41. I also didn't like the melodic content of "No Mercy" being used so verbatim (e.g. compare :48-1:12 of the source to :50-1:14 of the mix) There were original sections added, and a lot of the writing under the verbatim melody section was modified, but the overall interpretation of the source melodies wasn't creative enough. The drumwork sounded bland and thin, so the background didn't feel particularly fleshed out. It really undermined the bombastic energy you were going for (and achieved) with the arrangement in the foreground. This is a good base, but the background writing needs to be improved to mesh with the energy of the orchestration, and the melody needs more interpretation and personalization. NO (resubmit)
  7. Yeah, obviously avoiding any covers in this new soundtrack. Hope Kyle finds some good ones!
  8. I got to finalize the filenaming and tagging on these, so I got to check things out early. I love it!
  9. Yeah. He has too many good ideas that'll never get done at this rate. Aztec Adventure, Victory Run, Kid Icarus, Metroid, LocoRoco, and YES, I'm blowing up your spot Dave, otherwise they'll never get done. But yeah, djp's versatility is probably the best in the community, whether or not he started this place. He's tried a ton of genres and styles, so a lot of pieces, like "Red Waltz" here, end up sounding unique within his discog. Excellent stuff, this one; it added a lot more substance to the original. Looking forward to "Running from Evil Horde" going up next!
  10. Download a BitTorrent client. I use Vuze myself. Install whatever program you choose, then open/click on the torrent link like any other URL on the net. It should prompt that link being opened by the BT client and will proceed to download the files from that torrent.
  11. Brining this idea back: Are any contributors willing to try and arrange a track from the Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk Original Soundtrack. We can attempt to procure said soundtrack. ReMixing from this would specifically be in anticipation of the game coming out soon in North America. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World comes out in the States on 11/18, like I mentioned before. Plenty of time to do something by that date, plus that doesn't have to be the release date. Kyle/Lea, up for it?
  12. Oh yeah, definitely. Take away the breakthrough graphics, awesome soundtrack, great game mechanics that thematically fit well with each of the animal characters, and multi-faceted levels, and there's nothing left. The game is clearly shitty, I agree with you all the way. And because the game involved animals of some sort (it doesn't matter what), it's Disney-like, I agree with you 102%.
  13. The lyrics were there ever since it was posted. Check the page for the lyrics tab: http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01134/ Thanks a lot! I've even gone and refined the transcription a bit. Feel free to copy what's up on OCR now if you'd like.
  14. Everything mentioned so far should be set. Keep 'em coming.
  15. Nah, because most ReMixes don't have lyrics, hence no tab. If there was something in place in the database that marked a track as having vocals yet also missing a lyrics tab, we could do that. Also noting, I've mailed Dale and Mustin on "Team Gato."
  16. Not a dumb question. Any track with lyrics will have a "lyrics" tab visible on its writeup page. Example with lyrics tab: http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01665/ Example missing lyrics tab: http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00313/ Thanks, Jon. Mailed Shael about an hour ago, looking for confirmation of the lyrics I slapped together. Keep the tracks coming, people.
  17. Yeah, definitely agreed here. Dunno why I never posted on this one. I liked stuff like "Lobby Static" and "mode serpent" a bit more, but this one was still excellent. If the volume had been louder, that would have helped. Otherwise, excellent arrangement, and nice sound choices contributing to a beautiful texture.
  18. Nigga, plz. Say it with me, "THIS IS HERE TO STAY."
  19. I knew that already. To clarify, "I thought the Rusty Ruin and Diamond Dust themes of Richard Jacques absolutely killed the Genesis soundtrack [in comparison], but some people disagree." Damon chose well!
  20. Help a brother out and let me know which ReMixes with vocals lack info on the lyrics. Initially, I am not looking for transcriptions of lyrics. I plan on contacting the ReMixers for lyrics if none are available elsewhere. Thanks. NEED: none Awaiting confirmation: none
  21. Red Hot Chili Peppers? Nah, though I see the resemblance there too. And yes, it was a cover. Anyway, I think Jeremy's saying it sounds similar to the intro of "Magical Sound Shower" from OutRun.
  22. Yep, http://www.ocremix.org/song/id/409/.
  23. OC ReMix Posts First Live Orchestral VGM Arrangement from University of Manitoba By: Larry Oji, larryoji@ocremix.org August 4, 2008 Fairfax, VA -- OverClocked ReMix today announced the release of its first live orchestral video game fan arrangement, by University of Manitoba graduate Paul Levasseur. The ReMix arranges a piece from Michiko Naruke's score to Wild Arms, published in 1997 by Sony for the PlayStation console. Levasseur's 'A Symphonic Tale' was performed by the University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jackie Dawson; the piece was approved for performance by Orchestra director Earl Stafford after being asked to critique Levasseur's arrangement. OverClocked ReMix is a community centered around fan arrangements of video game music, with over 1500 such mixes freely available for download. OC ReMix founder David W. Lloyd praised Levasseur's skill for composition alongside the stirring performance of the orchestra: "I find that in the vast spectrum of music, there is a certain range of emotions, power, and impact that only a live symphony orchestra can capture... When done right, of course. Paul's done it right, without doubt, and the University of Manitoba has given him all he could have asked for - an awesome performance of his arrangement." The ReMix is freely available online at http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01737/. Since submitting his piece to OverClocked ReMix, Levasseur has completed his studies in Music Composition, with a minor in Cello. He now moves onto the University of British Columbia, where he will pursue a graduate degree in Music Composition. Levasseur expressed his desire to continue his work with orchestras: "If you are lucky, this won't be the last from me. Hopefully a professional orchestra takes notice so that I don't have to keep forking out money for recordings." About OverClocked ReMix Founded in 1999, OverClocked ReMix is an organization dedicated to the appreciation, preservation, and interpretation of video game music. Its primary focus is www.ocremix.org, a website featuring hundreds of free fan arrangements, information on game music and composers, resources for aspiring artists, and a thriving community of video game music fans.
