  1. It's a pretty funny concept, and I cant get the Figaro scene with Kefka out of my head whenever I listen to this one. The percussion is one of the things that really pulls you in at first, though I would have liked the loop to have some variation in it. The sounds now aren't that great, but they fit the themes well and are more than forgivable. There are a few moments when things don't exactly match as well as they should, but I've listened to this enough to not really notice them as much anymore. Cool stuff, great concept, though not the best produced mix around.
  2. There certainly could have been a lot more added to this to really flesh things out, but what is here is a nice enhancement of the original. There isn't much in the way of stuff outside of the source; it would have been nice to see a solo or something fresh. The guitar sample has a ton of reverb on it, making it pretty muddy in the mix. Would be loads better with a live guitar. That and the fade out ending are what really bother me the most. Aside from that, some nice sound given the age of the mix, and an nice enhancement of the original.
  3. This one is short, and it has a pretty good atmosphere, which is expanding on the original. This is certainly better off as a background piece, as there is little melody or development in it, but that's ok. I do have to say this is the best 'Username as Track Name' mix I've ever seen
  4. No kidding. It starts almost exactly like that. I'm going to have to say that the drums completely overpower the mix, and I am in no way fond of them. I'm even having a hard time focusing on the melody over them. There are some badass moments, like the heavy breathing, and when it really breaks down right after that. It has an overall chip feel, maybe something out of a SNES game racing game. The melodies themselves are not bad, though they aren't really catching my interest. Balance is really the key here.
  5. I am not familiar with the source all that much, so from the standpoint of an outsider, this piece is very pretty, and it is an overall nice listen. DJP said it right that the timing is what really helps this out, with notes held, slower lines, etc. The dynamics aren't too varied, but they get the point across, and overall the writing is pretty fluid. Nice work.
  6. I'm very glad OA went back to this mix, and I'm glad that it made the frontpage where a lot of people will get to listen to it. Radical Dreamers had a pretty awesome soundtrack that influenced the (admittedly more awesome) Chrono Cross soundtrack. Being able to take a mix to it's roots and really give it treatment like this is way cool. This also gives a good comparison to how much OA has improved since the RD project when I first started talking to him. Very sneaky, very kick ass, and very awesome. I think the strings really bring out the tension with the lead guitar. Nice work.
  7. This is pretty cool. I like the effects that went into this, where everything starts to mesh together in a very atmospheric way. I'm don't know the source, but this one can easily stand on it's own. Cool stuff.
  8. This has some cute stuff going on, and it's a really fun mix. The samples don't hold up so well, but I think the writing makes up for it. It definitely brought a smile to my face. The ending is a little weird, but in a way it fits the quirkiness overall. Nice work.
  9. For the most part this is more of an enhancement of the original. The new material added in is really nice, but it's so separate from the source that it feels like two different but slightly related tracks. The drums are pretty much the same throughout as well, which isn't helping things out. Not for me.
  10. Gonna basically agree with OA on this one. The sounds are great, the groove is awesome, but I would have liked at least one super hardcore section to come in and blow me away. Regardless, this one has some pretty cool stuff going on, and it's a neat listen. Nice work.
  11. This is super quiet, especially after listening to such a loud mix a couple minutes ago. A volume boost would have helped the background come out a little bit more and support everything else going on. Aside from that, there's not much to say about this one. It's pretty close to the source, but in a much more laid back, hip hop style. Personally I'm not crazy about the style, the source, or the sounds, so this is a pass for me. Sorry.
  12. Really driving, really awesome. What really brings this out is how seamless everything is. It's hard to tell that this was a collab based on how well things are meshing together, and the balance overall is just right. Nothing feels drowned out or held back when it's in the spotlight. This also really emphasizes the source in a way that takes it up more than a few notches. Check this one out.
  13. While the sounds aren't the most realistic around, the orchestration of this and the arrangement really makes this sound really good, and there is little to no detraction from the lack of realism. A little shrill by the end, but it is forgivable. This also is one of Shna's more "accessible to the normal public" remixes, so don't feel put off to try this one out. I can see what OA is saying about the lack of movement throughout the mix, but I feel that there is more there than he is alluding too. I feel like the mix has a goal and achieves what it sets out to do by the end. The writing is what really brings this one out. Nice work.
  14. While this mix never stood out to me, it certainly has a decent number of good things going on for it. The writing is pretty solid for what it's done, though it does get repetitive after a while. The bass slides are pretty cool, easily what I think is the best part of the mix. For the most part the percussion does a decent job of backing up the mix (couple times where they are overwhelming, a bit). I would have liked some bigger changes throughout to keep my attention a little better, and things overall could have used some smoothing out, but this one is by no means a bad listen.
  15. The lack of low end seems to be throwing me off on this one. Because it's missing a strong base (the bass is the base, haha) the mix feels almost uncomfortable where it is. I think having the lower end would have really helped things out here. I also have to agree with everyone that as soon as the mix seems to settle in it cuts into the fade out. Having a fade isn't the worst thing ever, but this one feels like it's thrown in at an inopportune time. The mix just isn't working for me.
  16. The bass is making me think there's someone outside blasting some hip hop as they drive by, so the effect is certainly there and used well. Aside from that I'm not really feeling the real 'hip hop' in this, but the song is still a pretty chill mix that's overall a relaxing listen. Vibes take main stage for most of the mix, and they sound pretty good. Love the soloing going on. I'd have liked the balance of the volumes to be a little better, it feels like the vibes get overshadowed at times, but aside from that, not bad for a McDonald's remix.
  17. Very funky groove going on here, I like the synth used for the main melody. There are a lot of good effects used here, including the opening rain/storm, but also including various effects added to the sounds that change the textures. Pretty catchy overall, nice work.
  18. Hrmmm, I don't know if I'm happy that I don't have the only Besaid Island mix on the site....haha, just kidding. It's a really under-appreciated song, so I'm glad to hear a different take on it on the main page. It took me a few listens to appreciate the chipness of this, but it's grown on me, and it's a fun enjoyable listen. Nice work.
  19. Very pretty! Love the harmonies on the vocals, and how well this all fits. bliNd has a talent for really being able to back up vocals well. Ashliegh also has a very pure voice that works just right. This is also a wonderful gift, how adorable! Great job!
  20. DrumUltima and I were working out a skit for a convention (Specifically ConnectiCon, which we were attending at the time) for Rhymes with Elixer. We figured out most of the costumes (Pimp with a gold chocobo feather/bling, Trenchcoat for Tonberry, etc), but I think we both knew it wasn't going to happen. Maybe the OCR panel...
  21. Nobuo Uematsu now has a copy of EoBLoR along with a note explaining to him what it is (and how awesome he is) courtesy of my friend Fenix who attended the FF concert last Saturday Also....signed by the man himself.
  22. My friend Fenix went to this, and hopefully he was able to present Nobuo Uematsu with a physical copy of Echoes of Betrayal, Light of Redemption along with a short note (in Japanese, thank you Chipp!) explaining what it is and how awesome Uematsu-san is. I haven't gotten to talk to him yet, so I'm excited to hear if it was successful or not.
  23. This is some impressive work to a oft-remixed source. I'm glad that Khemael took the time to really get things the way he wanted, because all of the detail put into the arrangement and playing of this really adds up to a great piece. Great work.
  24. This site needs more live jazz. I love all the background stuff going on, and you feel like you're really in a club listening to this. Your recorder did a pretty kickin' job, I'm impressed. Props to the bari, he's got some nasty chops.
  25. I'm not feeling this one as much as others, but it's still a cool song. I feel like there isn't as good of a mesh between the orchestral elements, the synth elements, and the rock elements. They feel a bit too separate to me, which is a shame, because the arrangement itself is pretty nice. One example is the delay on the strings at 2:19 vs the rhythm guitar which has very little delay. The arrangement rocks, though, and there were more than a few moments that I was lost in some good sound. I think this one overall could have had some more tweaking to polish up and make it sound more awesome, but still a keeper for me.
