  1. This is just a fun mix. Not something I'm going to relax to, not something to dance to, actually...not sure what you do with it, but it's worth a smile or two. Seriously, fun. Listen to it.
  2. While this is pretty repetitive, it manages to stay same throughout the mix. The buzz itself starts to get to you after a while, but the actual pattern works because of the different stuff going on up top. That 'stuff' though, is a bit overshadowed volume-wise; I feel like it's being crowded out a little bit by the buzzing background. Drums do vary a bit themselves, but only through different loops, and they lack some personalization. They are also a bit on the weaker side, and could have used more presence. I'm not feeling this one, mostly by the lack of development. I would have liked more to happen, which unfortunately doesn't happen. Some breaks/volume changes/instrument changes would have been appreciated. A safe mix, but not the most interesting.
  3. I played Myst, and tried to play Riven, but I'm pretty awful at puzzle games, and don't have the best attention span for those sorts of things. Needless to say, I used the guide more often than I should have. Regardless, there is a lot of arrangement going on here, and I can agree with everyone that how the track(s) were approached was nicely done, but the sounds and production aren't quite there. Harmony pretty much summed up anything I might have said and more, so I won't be repeating all of that. Putting that aside, though, there is some good part writing here, and it's overall an enjoyable track.
  4. I would have liked this better without the guitars, but they are forgivable compared to how nice the rest of the mix sounds. The overall peaceful vibe that the track emits (sans a couple sections) really makes for a nice texture that I was really able to close my eyes to and take in. This has a similar feel to some of The Wingless' other tracks, so it's nice to see another link in the progression of his stuff. Nice listen, little short, but a mostly quiet and peaceful track.
  5. The strings and piano can feel a little stiff/mechanical at times, and I would have liked some more variation in general on their runs, but it is a cool set of runs, and I can't disagree with wanting to hear them a lot in the mix. It would have been cool to hear a change up in the middle to them though. Symphonic rock is cool, so you win points just for considering it. OA goes beyond that, though, and makes this really work well with the song. The parts play off of each other very well, so that it doesn't feel tacked on or anything. The guitar work is what really brings this together, and the wall of sound the produce at times is really good. I'm also liking the piano run in the background at 0:59. Cool stuff. I will say this isn't your strongest track (NOTHING compares to Fabul, sorry), but it's a great listen.
  6. Dave's right when he mentions that Gecko comes up with some interesting combinations of instruments that you wouldn't expect to hear, but manage to work quite well. I'm a fan of the over texture of the song, it's unique, has a good low and high range, and keeps my interest. The drums to end up forgettable towards the end. The beat used isn't bad, just overused. More change-ups throughout would have been appreciated by many, it seems. I don't know if this one 'collides' as much as I would have originally thought, but it is a nice listen with some goodtexture.
  7. How about you review 200 tracks and then request it from OA?
  8. There is some beautiful playing here, and I wish that Tamimi had submitted more mixes to the site. The emotion of his playing is very present in this track, and it's hard not to want to listen to this a few more times (not that anything is stopping me). I feel like the breaks without the nay could have been a little bit shorter, to focus on it a bit more and really let it shine as the lead instrument, but the interludes are very pretty too and stand on their own. Also, the ending is unfortunately a bit abrupt, it would have been great to have a ritardando to the last note. The texture of the nay is beautiful and it is very nice to listen to. Check this one out.
  9. Andrew refuses to let me call the podcast "OverClocked Remix Roulette Reviews" AKA "ORRR". I'll get over it, eventually. As always, I'm really hoping people join up on this campaign to give some nice quality reviews to the tracks on the site. OA and I have really found some awesome pieces of music that I know I would have never listened to on my own without going through as I have. Also, listen to our 'awesome' podcast, and give us some reviews! We certainly are new at this, but if you people like it, we'd like to possibly extend it beyond just December. Thanks to anyone who participates!
  10. Chill mix, chill vibes, nice sounds all through the mix. This mix brings out the flavor the the original and expands on it. The vibes really fit the tone, though I think they cut a tad too much compared to the rest of the soundscape. Just a tiny detail though that I can easily overlook. Love the opening, and I really think you should have gone with your first title . Nice work, more people should jump on reviewing this.
  11. Not something I'm going to jam out to on my iPod, but it's a nice ambient piece that has a lot of nice textures. Good for doing homework to, or in my case, correcting homework to. Everything is subtle, but tastefully done. Nice work.
  12. When this started, I would have NEVER guessed this was Ballad of the Wind Fish. The style change could have gone horribly wrong, but Willrock makes it work, and work well. To be honest, I'm not sure if I like the piano/strings combination when it is used for the first half of the mix. However, I think it sounds fine in the second half, especially the B section of the source. I will have to listen to it a bit more, but I think having the piano/strings/synth combo at the beginning just isn't sitting quite right with me. Soloing is fantastic, though. What's really good about is is that it knows when to take forefront, and also when to support the source melody. That is a subtle touch that Willrock has down, nice work on that. Get this, listen to it, it is great work.
  13. When I first joined this site and downloaded every CT mix, this one apparently never made my original cut, because it's not in my list of CT mixes. Listening to it now, though, I have a much better appreciation for it. The style is obviously (dur) focused on the drums and bass, which I'll get to in a bit, but the rest of the sounds are pretty good. I'm especially liking the marimba, it works super well in it's function, and the delay on it later sounds cool. Nice throw in of Crono's Theme, btw. The ethnic percussion really adds some flare to this, and fits in perfectly. Reminds me a little of 65 Million BC, which is a nice touch. Along with that, the variation of percussion throughout the mix is done well. One thing that's throwing me off is the snare roll, which sounds very fake compared to the rest of the percussion. Aside from that, nice work. I will agree with OA, the fade-out happens just as I wanted a little more variation, but rather a short visit than an overly long one. Nice work, glad I gave this one another chance.
  14. Lots of positives to say about this one. I love the 80's feel that is carrying through this, especially once the trance really kicks in. The melodies are rather catchy, which is great, and the bass really brings things together. Similarly, the drums work very well throughout, always a plus. Nice meld of styles, transitions are sweet too. Good work.
  15. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MDR7506?utm_source=pricegrabber&utm_medium=comparisonshopping Looks like I'll be getting those headphones for an extra 10% off, free shipping, no tax, and getting the free copy of Acid Music Studio 7. Not a bad deal imo.
  16. From the standpoint of not knowing the source, I'd have to say this one overall sounds a bit flat to me. It's throwing down a typical techno style with tons of vocal clips, and it is catchy for a while. As I listen on, though, the mix loses it's luster, because I've already heard the same thing before more than a few times. I think the lack of nostalgia on my part also does the mix in for me. Just not my thing.
  17. The quality of sound on this mix made me think this was over 1000. I am really impressed with the piano sound especially. Also, the panning throughout is very nicely done, and I definitely recommend listening to this with headphones. I'm not very familiar with the source, but while short, the melody is sweet and pleasant to listen to. This is a little gem I'm glad I found.
  18. I'd like to see a record number of reviews to commemorate. December is Reviews Month, anyways.
  19. I've been used to listening to this one for a while, so a lot of things that probably should bother me actually don't. That being said, I can see what other people are saying, especially about the bass and the drums overall. There are some times where the bass completely dominates the soundfield, and the percussion is lacking presence overall (except the hi hat). I like that the original arpeggio was used as a transition. It get's to be a bit much, but the idea behind it was pretty cool, and with a little work it would gel a lot better. Not something I'd dance to, but I did a little head movement to the beat, and as I said before, I've had this one in my collection for quite a while. Worth a listen.
  20. Has that feel of overcoming obstacles, like OA mentioned. I can say that what I imagined when listening to the opening isn't what I actually eneded up hearing, but I'm liking this all the same. Given it's age, this one's faired pretty well.
  21. That's flutter tonguing. It's like rolling your R's while playing.
  22. This is pretty much cover material. With drums. Not doing it for me, sorry.
  23. This has been a lucky night so far for reviews, I've found all good tracks that I'd easily listen to again. The sounds on this are deceptively good for the age of the mix. The 'ice' feeling is brought through well with the harp, flute, strings, and oboe. What I like most is the tension you feel through this despite having a 'first snow on the ground' sound to it. Cool stuff.
  24. Same, although I'm still looking for some help!
