  1. Thanks for everyone's comments. I'm *totally* surprised that everyone knew which one was mine. Also, thanks Hale, for hosting this!
  2. I think the harp is a pretty cool idea. Had a good drive to it. Beyond that everything is decent. Choir sample is sketchy at best, but it serves a purpose, I guess. To me it doesn't seem like too much happens, I would like to see more go on with the melody. More variation overall would have been nice. Worth a listen, I think.
  3. What a cute little mix. Nothing jaw-dropping going on, but the mix has a really nice feel to it. I had this dorky smile on my face the whole time. Nice job.
  4. Bass-line's pretty cool. Keeps the track moving. Nothing really grabbed me in this one. The synthy thing was cool at first, but I didn't find it really enough to keep me interested. From the sounds of the other reviews this is more of an 'upgrade', and there's nothing wrong with that. Just not the track for me.
  5. Heard the second one more than a few times, but never played whatever game it was from. Someone on the site knows what it is though, because it's appeared here before. The one that ends in 90 is from FF7. The play or something. What's this for, a contest?
  6. Wow, not sure what to say about this one. The drums are...wow. They got pretty annoying quickly. The melody is alright, though it gets repetitive fast. Not a fan, sorry to say.
  7. Slick combination of instruments. Wasn't expecting the bigger guitar section in the middle, but it fits nicely, sly work there.
  8. Don't know the sorce, but I'm loving this track. Mazedude always brings good stuff to the table, and this doesn't dissapoint. Love the opening (vibraphone?), and a great lead in with the percussion. Great use of echoing, and a nice blend of instruments. Really great work, everyone should take a listen to this one.
  9. Very cool concept. Love the jazzy feel, really fits nice with the melody. My favorite part starts at 2:20, that part is really awesome. I'm not sure if I like the processing. I feel like the piece is supposed to be set in a small cafe, but the performance is in a huge hall. I think that's personal opinion, though. The timing doesn't bother me, but the intonation does. It's off enough that it draws my attention to it, distracting me. If that were fixed the mix would be golden. Also, as a side note, I don't think the Judges Decision thread is visible. It's telling me I don't have access to view.
  10. Last day to vote people! Come take a listen to all the entries and drop a line to HB!
  11. I've gotten to hear a lot of OA's WIP's lately, and I have to say I'm hearing a huge improvement since I first heard his Radical Dreamers works. Very nice piece that brings a nice melody along with some powerful guitar work. Production's pretty good, from what my amatuer ears can tell. Definately some nice work, and worth more than a few listens.
  12. Next time I see you, be prepared for an OCR hug of great proportions! Happy Birthday!
  13. I'm pretty sure that's NOT current. I don't know if there is a current list on there, though.
  14. I have lyrics written up to this, and have wanted to get a good track for it so I have a solid track to sing to. The track I have doesn't fit the lyrics or my voice well, there's a thread in WIPland if you'd like to hear. Just throwing out a thread to see if anyone's interesting in collaborating with me. Feel free to respond here or PM. Thanks, Deia
  15. Wow, talk about back from the dead! Honestly, this piece is pretty much dead. It's not good how it is, needs a different style. I'd have to rerecord the vocals. No one's interested it seems. Maybe someday, but until I get a better backing, nothing's happening to it. Sorry to dissapoint.
  16. I don't think it's as bad as OA's making out, but without even playing the game I recognize this song, and can't hear too much original going on. I would have liked to see more arrangement. Overall, I'm not totally crazy about the drums, but they serve their purpose here and there. I feel the same could have been done with orchestral percussion, however. Overall, not really feeling this one.
  17. Definately nice work on the drums. Sitar really works for this piece, setting the style and mood. The guitar is fakey, but alright. It would definately be better with a liver performance. I was left wondering and wanting more at the end, could have stood to be a bit longer, perhaps a recap of the beginning, or something. Overall, nicely done.
  18. Hey contestants, entries are due TOMORROW!!! I hope we get a good turnout this time around. It would be great to have a really good competition here.
  19. Good, epic feel to the mix. While the sounds aren't terribly realistic, they don't really pull down my opinion of the mix. Nice snare work; they help keep the mix going. Ending is sudden, but I don't mind it as it is. Overall, a nice song worth keeping.
  20. Very atmospheric, which works well with the piece. Panning at 1:30 is very cool sounding. Around 2:30 sounds like you're about to fight some sort of boss, then cue rock. At 3:00 everything sounds like it's faded in the background a bit too much for the strings to reenter. It's very sudden, I'm not crazy about it. Overall, lots of good things going for it, but I couldn't keep focused. Worth a listen, and some nice work, just not a fan.
  21. Transition from the moody beginning to the super-happiness works well, and everything flows nicely. I agree with OA, drums are a little lacking in power compared to the rest of the mix. I can see the charm of this song, but it's not working for me. Not really my style, to be honest.
  22. Definately a fan of this mix. Very smooth, everything fits together, even though you might not expect the set of instruments used to work well. Nice melody, good sounds. Ending is a bit ubrupt, and I might have liked a little more expansion overall, but defiantely a keeper.
  23. How creepy that I just reviewed the sole Jazz Jackrabbit song on this site (posted way after this comment was posted, also). Weird. The song is a bit too...buzzy for me. I feel like there's a coin on my desk that's being rattled by the bass, the entire time. It's annoying, honestly, after too long. From previous reviews, the mix is apparently an improvement from the original, but it's nothing that I would go out of my way to listen to. Improving on a source can only go so far. Nothing it really bad that I can pinpoint, it just doesn't hold my attention overall.
  24. From the start I can say I don't like the trumpet sound, but it seems to take too little time for me to really worry about it. Very epic, I like the combination of the stately snare and the electronica. Good stuff from Mazedude, as per usual.
