  1. Wait wait wait. There are people who didn't like Crisis Core?
  2. I wouldn't put it past them to release some kind of director's cut edition on the PS3 only later down the road.
  3. Star Ocean First Evolution & Second Departure Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Patapon Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles Jeanne d'Arc Daxter God Of War: Chains of Olympus Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War Disgaea Afternoon of Darkness Upcoming: Resistance: Retribution Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Fantasy Dissidia Final Fantasy Agito XIII Parasite Eve 3 Patapon 2 I'm probably missing a bunch more, but those are my recommendations anyway.
  4. I guess I'm a fan of flawed games because every single negative thing I see for IU just indicates that it's "flawed" and "could have been so much more". What kind of subjective crap is that? Resident Evil 5 is considered "flawed" already and the game hasn't even come out yet, and every game out there "could have been so much more". I'm not really seeing anything substantive that clearly indicates that Infinite Undiscovery is a terrible game(aside from the title). People need to stop seeing reviews as the end all be all to things and get off their bums and try stuff out for themselves. Also interesting facts about tri-crescendo. Didn't know any of that.
  5. Tri-Crescendo made Eternal Sonata. I think they're a bunch of guys that broke from Tri-Ace. The game is pretty great, especially once you hit party level 6. The reason it's mentioned here is because Motoi Sakuraba also composed the music for Eternal Sonata. You can tell by the instrumentation and musical themes. He has a very light style. Also, we must stop perpetuating the stereotype that Infinite Undiscovery was a bad game. It was in fact a great game.
  6. I've found two problems with Star Ocean The First Departure since I played it. The first one being that the pacing is just goofy. Seriously, I get about 2 hours worth of great plot and then after that it's like I'm thrown into the world with no clear cut goal other than to kill a demon fellow by the name of Asmodeus. This is probably just a relic issue from the time period when the game was first created, but it's still a pain. I feel like I'm playing through Final Fantasy 1 - 3 again. Second, why the hell do I make different things with the same ingredients in the crafting system!? I want to make more salads, not _insert random thing here_! I like having a bit more control over my crafting systems. Once I finish The Last Remnant I'll probably keep going given that I'm still a huge fan of the game even with those two glaring issues.
  7. I hate this forum now.
  8. Oh my god. Did you actually just write all that? You could have just said you didn't like RE4 and left it at that.
  9. There's a reason why Beatdrop gets his work in DDR. It's creative, and it has staying power. I think I turn this track on at least once when ever I sift through my OC Remix folder. Every section has a pretty awesome sound and I especially love the part when the intro lands into the first section at 0:43 and has that "reactor build up" feel to it. This track doesn't disappoint. Nice job.
  10. This piece is definitely creative and I enjoy it a lot. I don't know what's the best word to describe the feeling it evokes, so I'll just go with "dystopian" if that makes any sense. I think the real hook is the intro with its guitar riffs that kind of spell out how the song is going to flow. Very nice job.
  11. This thread has motivated me to contribute more by listening to WIPs and do more song reviews. Get ready for me to hate on all o' ya'll suckas.
  12. I didn't see a thread up for it, so I thought I'd take the initiative and beat those suckas to the punch. Anyway yeah, Resident Evil 5 ladies and gentlemen. The demo just came out on Xbox Live earlier today and the PS3 demo is scheduled for release next week. The controls have been changed as we all know to a more "shooter-esque" type of setting while still preserving the RE4 configuration for those who prefer it. As for me? Well I should first mention that I'm a lefty, and a lefty who CANNOT do much righty at all, so when I saw that there was no lefty stick flip available, I was a bit miffed. Fortunately, the game feels a lot like Gears of War in it's camera perspective and I found myself very comfortable with the new control scheme. I dare say that I can't go back to the older style of controls, although I guess after being spoiled by Left 4 Dead on the 360, I was kind of hoping for a quick 180 turn button. This can be taken care of though by raising the aim sensitivity I guess. The demo is short but sweet, containing the same levels we've seen before like the shanty town and such. Also, damn is this game pretty. People can keep saying that it's just RE4.5 or "RE4 on steroids" all they want. I think more of a good thing is a great thing, especially if it's tweaked to such a high degree. The game isn't as tense as before, although that might have something to do with me playing in a fully lit room, and I can imagine having a serious blast with the co op play. Anyway, enough of me rambling. Go try this sucker out.
  13. Well I think we're gonna have to wait until around mid-year to really see what's on the horizon, as we're still in the early year slump. We'll be getting out of it around mid to late February starting with high profile stuff like Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5, and Star Ocean: The last Hope. In terms of console installation rate, I imagine that the Wii and the DS are still going to produce strong numbers, and didn't Reggie state that "they didn't need to bring out the DSi stateside just yet" due to the DS selling like hotcakes? I think there's potential to see more PSPs being bought up with a few releases like Resistance: Retribution, Loco Roco 2, Patapon 2, and the flurry of Square-Enix stuff like Dissidia, Star Ocean Second Evolution, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep(if that is in fact coming our way this year). I think Sony is going to have to keep tooling their idea of what kind of games/gamers the PSP is going to be catering to in order to put up some kind of fight against the DS though. They could start by adding more functionality with the PSP right out of the box as opposed to limiting the good stuff to those tech-savy enough to mod 'em. The PS3... Well, I hate to sound like a buzz kill, but the way I'm seeing it, I'll have to echo what several news outlets have said and say that it's a sinking ship without a price cut here and there this year. As a tech device it's great, but as far as gaming goes I'd rather get my fix elsewhere. It still stands as one of the best Bluray players out there, but with inexpensive players coming out now, that point now seems irrelevant. I probably agree with the idea that this year won't be AS big as last, and it's funny how after listening to an episode of Retronauts a few weeks ago that it seems that most years ending in 8 have been big in gaming, but I don't think we'll be seeing THAT big of a loss in momentum, unless all the mothers and children in this nation decide to outgrow gaming altogether, which is another point that Nintendo has already understood and Microsoft is trying to get: Do not underestimate the spending power of mothers with children. I personally believe that this is one thing that has put Nintendo on the gravy train with the Wii thus far. Family friendly and casual gaming. They might be black-listed words to us, but to the big 3 those 2 words mean big bucks. Anyway as I said before, it's probably too early to tell, but I'm excited about this year in gaming to be sure.
  14. That's all I need to hear. Will be buying post haste.
  15. So... Is the game fun?
  16. I enjoyed the hell out of FEAR, and I was disappointed as all hell when the ports were done terribly. That said, I just tried out the 360 demo and I keep coming back to it. The game is beautiful, and it manages to enhance the feel of the original quite well. It just feels very solid and fun. If the full version manages to deliver this much, then do want.
  17. Ninja Gaiden is for masochists who enjoy getting their balls crushed on a regular basis. I am one of these people.
  18. I agree that The Spirits Within was a bad representation of what Final Fantasy is. I saw it again after years of not doing so, and I was able to enjoy it again for what it was. A nice little sci-fi story with great visuals, a cool concept, and Steve Buscemi. I also enjoyed Advent Children. I think there was a summer when I must have watched it(or at least had it playing) at least once a day. I agree that most of the characters save Cloud had a serious case of failuritis, but then again Cloud has always sucked. Zack was the real hero.
  19. Man... There are too many to mention here, and as many here they all involved the SNES or the N64. I guess the single biggest video game memory I have is beating my older brother at ANYTHING for the first time in my life, which was Super Street Fighter 2. We had a gang of his friends and mine over, and I was about 6 or 7 at the time. So he's playing as Ken or Dhalsim or somethin', and I'm playing as Guile. I must have spammed the hell out of the jump, low strong roundhouse along with the flash kick, 'cause I cleaned his clock out, publicly. Sure, it doesn't seem like much now, but at the time, for a 6 year old to beat his 13 year old brother at ANYTHING was huge. Another big memory would be pulling off my first fatality ever in a Mortal Kombat game. Once again, 6 or 7 years old, went to the bowling alley that had a MK2 cabinet with a gang of my bro's friends, I used Reptile, won the match, and against everyone's expectations, ripped his head off. Go me! I guess another big memory would be in Rebel Assault 2 for the PC in which I did a perfect run of that level where you fly a Tie Fighter through a canyon in training without hitting a single wall, and while that sounds like nothing, keep in mind that pretty much the entire right side of my body is fucked up and has nowhere near as much dexterity or stability as my left(seriously, it's like I have another person there) and at the time, I didn't know that you could map controls for lefties, so I used the damn joystick with my right hand and made it even with the jeering of people around me(again my bro's friends ). It was great. The rest of my memories usually involved me watching my sis go through Mario 2 in it's entirety, playing games with my older sibs(my sister had road rage playing Mario Kart 64), and playing a Super Nintendo for the first time in my life and being totally blown away by everything about it. Graphics, sound, games like Castlevania 4, Mario World, the Star Wars games, Zelda, etc.
  20. I probably still flip through Game Informer anyway just to see what IS coming out and to, you know, be informed about games. I believe that there CAN be a bias because Gamestop MIGHT want a hand in something... I guess... But I think if you just look at reviews and previews objectively and focus on what you're looking for in a game, I don't think GI is THAT bad. Of course I feel like a douche talking about EGM since I never read a single issue, although I was a huge fan of OPM back when I had a subscription to it, and I know that a lot of people there either worked on EGM at the same time or migrated there when OPM was done, so there's definitely a lot of talent that will be missed.
  21. How do you fire Shane "Cooter" Bettenhausen anyway? I thought that was something only the powers of Jeff Green could accomplish, and he's off with EA now. If Garnett Lee loses his goddamn show, then Ima be mighty pissed.
  22. I have provided.
  23. Which is why I don't like gaming on my laptop on anything this generation. Besides, as long as I play with my buddies online, the game is great. I'd play with random people on Xbox Live, but I have a bad habit of leaving stupid people who keep running off like they were some one man army to die or leaving them to rot in a closet somewhere. I'm sick of running through hordes of zombies just to save some stupid fucks' ass.
  24. This lappy is a Core Duo 1.6 ghz, 1 gig of ram, and a radeon mobility x1400. Yeah, there won't be any L4D on this thing any time soon.
