  1. Just like everyone else, I dig the acoustic intro. Good arrangement, very nice guitar playing, smooth production. It all comes together to form a very enjoyable remix. Well done.
  2. When I read "psytrance" in the write-up, I thought of something like the Goa I used to listen to in the late 90s, but the remix at hand is much, much "softer" than the old stuff. Once the resulting confusion was gone, though, I enjoyed the remix. Very strong ethnic feel, good use of vocals, lots of variation. Hakan's voice sample though...I can understand wanting to use it, as it (and the whole trailer) is awesome, but it sounds so incredibly low-fi compared to the rest of the mix. Probably would've been better if it weren't in the remix.
  3. Nice expansion on the original theme. The guitar playing is top-notch. and the solo rocks hard. I do wish the remix had a breakdown, though. Despite being only 2:22, it's sometimes too much due to the relentless pace of the song. A few seconds to take breath would've been nice.
  4. I was very pleasantly surprised with how absolutely effortlessly the remix changes genres. Whether it's orchestra, guitar or solo piano, it always flows into each other almost seemlessly, i.e. the transitions are just beautiful. Also, drumrolls. Love 'em.
  5. This is glorious; another (IMO) very good example for the right balance between staying true to the source and making the remix your own thing. The awesome synth gives it that certain "old Konami game" feeling. If I had to criticise one thing, I'd say that the breakdown at 2:08 sounds kinda generic and dull.
  6. This probably sounds more negative than intended, but this remix sounds like OCR anno ~2002. The arrangement, the choice of sounds/instruments, the production...all of it reminds me of OCR of yonder. Which, as far as I am concerned, isn't necessarily a bad thing, seeing as how I listen to the old trance remix rather often.
  7. Generally speaking, I don't like autotune, and this remix is not an exception. Especially the beginning, where the voice is quite exposed, is just not my cup of tea. It becomes less of an issue past 1:20, when the female voice joins now and then. And then 2:42 onwards happens and the whole remix becomes fuckawesome. It's layered so beautifully. Also, the female vocals are very nice. To sum it up, the beginning of the song made me think "Nope, I won't like this" when I listened to it for the first time, but once I heard the whole thing, I couldn't stop listening to it anymore.
  8. 0:34 onwards gives me quite a strong FF7 vibe, though I'm too lazy to go through the game's soundtrack and figure out which song this remix reminds me of (probably the place where Spoiler Spoilsborough dies). Other than that, nice ambience (birds!), good choice of synths/effects on them.
  9. Shiiiiiiiiiit, new stuff by Overcoat. Been a while.
  10. Beckett007 delivers another quality orchestra/OST-like arrangement with high production values. While there's nothing wrong with that, I do wish that the artist would step out of his comfort zone and try something new for future remixes.
  11. Definitely hearing the Castlevania connection once the organ comes in at 0:32. Nice synth following up, and the guitar adds that delicious extra-layer of 80's cheese. My only complaint is that everything until 1:36 sounds like an intro; I guess it's because the song just doesn't get a beat going; in my opinion, the beat in the background sounds like it's holding back the remix from starting for real.
  12. Incredibly fat low end: the bass is awesome. I can see where zircon is coming from on the topic of variation in arrangement. Many electronica songs are quite repetitive if you listen actively, i.e. they're much better used as background music that you don't pay that much attention to. Obviously, this remix does not suffer from repetition.
  13. Very relaxed remix, even after it picks up a bit past 1:40. I like the pan flute, but I agree about the low end; hardly anything to do for the subwoofer in the first one and a half minutes, and even after that, the low end's not filled-out enough IMO. Still, I enjoyed the remix overall.
  14. Fun romp through a variety of styles. The beginning almost sounds like something you'd find in a movie about the roman empire, while the next part definitely screams "western". Mix in some medieval, 16-bit RPG-sounding tunes, a bunch of fun vocals, some asian flavor, and you have quite an enjoyable remix. Nice work.
  15. As far as arrangement goes, this hits the sweet spot for me, right between staying true to the original and adding own ideas. Performance is really good, too.
  16. This remix evokes all kinds of feelings of nostalgia, though strangely enough, none of them are related to the Sonic games themsevles. Overall, it reminds me of some of GeckoYamori's stuff (e.g. Mellow Tempest), and the part from 1:45 onwards makes me think of the early PS1 days, in particular the very first Tekken game. Good stuff.
  17. This. I enjoy this remix. Granted, the gated synth is cheesy, but it doesn't bother me that much.
  18. My reaction when I listened to this: "Nice beat. Oh hey, slap bass, awesome. Hey, this is getting even better. Nice little breakdown. Hey this synth OMGWHATISTHISAAAAAAAAGHPLEASEMAKEITSTOPITHURTSSOBAD." Yeah, the synth coming in at 1:10 is way, way too loud IMO. It's the most piercing thing I have heard in a long time; I absolutely have to turn the volume down. Don't get me wrong, the synth's sound is nice, but it's so loud, it hurts my ears. In other words, this is an awesome mix with a fatal flaw.
  19. Just like djp, I expected something more ambient when I saw Uru on the frontpage. And while this remix is certainly more lively than I expected, it's not bad or anything like that; quite the opposite. It flows beautifully, the lead synth (which I just typed as "lynth" before I corrected it) is awesome, and 3:40 onwards is, as previous posters pointed out, the high-point of this remix. Well done, and I hope to hear more from you (again).
  20. Loads of variation, all of it awesome. Nice to see that you can have that many different styles and guitars in a 6 minute song without it ever sounding slapped together. I particularly liked the slower sections/breakdowns, though 4:25 onwards was pretty awesome, too.
  21. Liked your ReMix, so I'll take a listen to this stuff, too.
  22. I see what you did there. "Cute" is the word that immediately came to mind when I first listened to this remix, and reading through the comments, I'm obviously not the only one to think that, as is the case with "airy". Also, nice use of sfx from the game. Good stuff.
  23. Definitely hearing the "Don't fear the reaper" connection djp made in his write-up. Overall a very enjoyable remix with nice guitars and synths, particularly 2:10 onwards. The following breakdown is pretty sweet, too.
  24. Rock solid dance tune. Has enough variation that it never becomes boring. Very enjoyable.
  25. When I read djp's write-up, particularly "Combines hip-hop with the narrative sensibilities & transitions of rock opera/musical theater", I thought to myself What on earth is he on about? The end result is surprisingly awesome, though. Nice use of samples from the game and good vocals. The lyrics are cheesy, but they're also a lot of fun. Nice one; looking forward to hearing more from you guys.
