  1. Considering how repetative the source is, I was a bit nervous listening, but this mix really creates the perfect mood and keeps it fresh. The percussion is fantastic, and the strings sound perfectly smooth. Just when the piano theme gets to be too much, it drops out and we are treated to a little sitar solo. Overall its a good mix, but repeated listens are completely out of the question because of the source. It just starts grating after 2-3 listens in a row. :/
  2. Awesome and creative synth sounds, this mix features some great beats and a frantic synth rhythm. It does have a pretty strong "halloween" vibe, which fits the ghouls and ghosts feeling perfectly. Especially nice is the organ solo, and afterwards is a spooky sounding, not-quite-on-time piano, adding to the mood. Very well done, and highly recommended.
  3. Mechanical and not terribly creative. I really like the source, and that's pretty much what this is.
  4. A pretty driving song, it seems a lot of the EQ is somewhat narrow, but overall it's an enjoyable listen. I like the lead synth and the saws at the beginning, but the drums seem a little too lo-fi for my personal taste. The transitions were really nice and the fills were unique and interesting. Overall I think this could benefit greatly from better samples, but the rest is pretty solid.
  5. Total victory lap music! Nice and laid back, it evokes the memories of a hard won race, with the future ahead. The synths are well used, and everything is clean. I actually prefer this mix to the original quite a bit. The mood you've created is great, though there are a few very minor production issues. The repeated crash cymbals need a bit of variation, and sometimes the strings are a bit bright. Otherwise, a fantastic mix.
  6. The mix starts out nicely with some strings, but then a pretty weak synth bass comes in and brings it down a bit. The piano playing the melody is nice, and the the panned delay is a nice touch. I'm not digging the brass sample much either. It gets the job done, and only is in a few parts, however. The ending is completely strange, however, and not effective at all. Adding the strings from beginning underneath the current ending would have been much better and would have required little effort. Decent but not for me.
  7. Plays it really safe and comes across as mostly a sound upgrade. It's a good song, but I would have wished that more had been done besides add the drums. I like the bass drum sound, but am not terribly fond of the snare.
  8. Awesome panning all around. I love the exposed feeling throughout, and the complete transformation of the track. It's very different from the original, and I didnt recognize it for a long time. The samples are great all around, and you use them to their strengths. Very reflective. I am digging it.
  9. I like the drums and the synths, but am not really digging the bass sound. Actually, the production is really nice on this, but the song itself seems 'meh' to me. I think it's just the source tune. After listening to the original, I am appreciating this mix a lot more, as it improves greatly upon the source, though it still isn't a favorite.
  10. Overall a nice piece, though the synth guitars detract a bit from the overall feeling. The softer sections are spot on however. The delay on the acoustic guitar and piano creates an incredible texture, and elements fade in and out very smoothly, and the balance is really good. If the guitars sounded better, this would be great, but as is, it's simply very good.
  11. Very high quality work, but I feel that it didn't really go anywhere. There were a lot of great moments, but I never felt like there was a whole to the piece. The sound quality is fantastic, however, very nice job making everything sound so natural. I guess my take on it is that it never becomes more than a sum of it's parts, no matter how fantastic the individual parts are. Maybe this style is just too subtle for me to properly appreciate?
  12. Some catchy syncopation for sure, and well interpreted material; No one in their right mind could call this a cover. I think the synths are fine for an old school mix, though the analogue sound would mesh well with some other instrumentation, maybe brass and fretless bass?
  13. Nice and full strings. I agree with everyone (including Wingless) about the fact that the stopping is totally messing with the song's flow. The strings are a little dry and grainy, but at least the attack is strong. I think upgrading the samples would have helped a good deal.
  14. Simply beautiful. I am quickly becoming a big Kaijin fan, and this mix easily stands with his others. The piano and bass together are superb and really carry the mix, and the soft chimes, drums and strings help as well. The only thing that brings down the mix slightly is the synthetic quality of the guitar lead. The mix doesn't suffer from it at all, but it could be better. I also think it could be a little longer, either with some variation, or with a bit more original material. Regardless, this is a great mix and I strongly recommend it.
  15. Very interesting take. The trance part is obvious, but it includes some christmas-sounding chimes and piano in the breakdown, which is easily my favorite part. The synths are nice, and there is a really good sounding synth choir. It is clearly synthetic, but the sample is tailored to it's strengths rather than attempting to sound realistic. While i'd prefer a more substantial ending, the shift to just drums is part of the trance genre, and in this case, forgivable. I thought the synth acoustic guitar was a little too dry, but that's picking nits. I wish there was more of the breakdown sprinkled throughout though. Enjoyable and uplifting.
  16. I am super digging that flute at the beginning, and the synth line that cuts in about halfway. The percussion is great as well, and the sitar is good. There is definitely a lot going on in this mix, and it lends it self well to repeated listenings. Though I never thought much about the original track, this brings out it's strengths well, and adds a newer flavor (lol food pun) in the form of some sweet synths. A unique, standout track.
  17. After hearing a lot of old school and cheap midi mixes, the high quality samples in this one are pretty striking. The choir and string sections mesh very well with the drums and oscillating synth, and the only issue has been mentioned, that later on, when the main theme comes in strong, the attack on the strings is a bit weak, and needs a bit more bite. The choir sounds fantastic, though the attack on them is a bit slow as well. Regardless, a very good mix, and one I recommend.
  18. NP dude, cool idea. It's been uber slow at work this week, and I've had the chance to find a lot of gems i've previously skipped over. Win-win IMO. I know a few guys have been helping out, but please do some more everyone. Nothing makes me feel like a bigger nerd than seeing the reviews forum spammed with my handle. Please, for my sake, and the sake of my potentially unborn children, review a track or two. Barring the removed mixes, the last 2 pages (28 and 29) are all in the double digits, and that's a decent start. Let's keep rocking, only a few days left!
  19. Very midi and without a lot of variation from the source. It's a pretty good song, but you can tell that it's a very early sub. The strings sound good when they are moving fast, and the part is pretty exciting, but it gets pretty repetitive pretty fast. I think mixing up the orchestral elements with some more pronounced electronica and improving the samples used would make this mix a lot more palatable. Decent, but not spectacular.
  20. Cheerful and bouncy, this mix is perfect for bopping back and forth to. The approach is simple, but the execution is sound. Especially nice is the organ runs throughout. It's probably the nostalgia talking, but this really does have a blaster master feel to it, even though i'm not sure how this happy sort of music could be related to going inside the earth's crust chasing after a frog. Actually, I suppose the complete exuberance of this track fits the completely absurd storyline of the game just fine.
  21. Very straightforward trance, but a song well suited to it. Build-release-build-release. If you like upbeat dance music, this is very good, with a bit of floating piano for variety. Some previous reviews are mentioning wrong notes, which I disagree with, everything here is in the right key.
  22. I have to say this is a surprisingly appealing mix, full of catchy synths, and a very cool bassline. The drums are pretty weak/forgettable, but the real attention-getter is the way the piano adds some beautiful polychords on top of the pad progression. They are more subtle as it starts, but as the mix reaches it's end, the beat stops completely, leaving just the ethereal flow, and the chords on top. Very ambitious, and completely unexpected. For a straight-up dance track, it's stunning. Highly recommended.
  23. Super basic and midi-sounding, I can't say that this will win any awards for sound design. Though basic, it does have a certain charm, especially when the extra percussion comes in. When the extra material comes in, it starts getting really good. This mix would be really good with several changes, most notably a synth update, a little less repetition early on, and maybe an extra section. As is, it's a bit dated, however nice.
  24. Badass Posse is right! This is perfect music to listen to while wandering the tough streets, maybe with a burst of impromptu dancing, and snapping your fingers in time. The synths and acoustic guitars are nicely balanced on their respective left and right turfs, and when the acoustic makes a quick dash into enemy territory, the effect is startling and pretty cool. The drums are very nice, and the rhythms don't change a lot, but the fills are all very interesting. The best part is near the end though, with both the panning guitar and drum breakdown, and then comped piano solo. Awesome work, and highly recommended.
