  1. Really it doesn't matter what style of music you make as long as you can use the tools you have at your disposal, but there are quite a few DnB artists that use FLStudio (Namely Concord Dawn and Spor off the top of my head, and Spor has some of the best production values in the game). Does that mean its better? Not necessarily, but some differences I've noted: Reason: - Self contained (both a pro and a con) - Easier on the CPU - Unique layout and routing (The combinator is heavenly) - Quality synths included (Namely Thor and Maelstrom) FLStudio: - More flexible - More robust MIDI - Can use audio (Reason can too with Record now but I haven't used record so I don't know how well they integrate) That said, none of this matters because it all boils down to your personal style and workflow. I used to use Reason and FLStudio (still occasionally use Reason if I'm on the go and want to get ideas down) but I've since switched to Ableton simply because I felt like it fit my style the best. Its too easy (especially when you're starting) to get caught in the "what" as opposed to the "how" when making music, don't worry about what a spreadsheet says or what you're favorite artists use and focus more on how well each program works for you, then choose accordingly.
  2. I don't use Reason very often but this looks nice, and at the very least more practical than an 18 band compressor.
  3. I started sometime in 2004 (2003 possibly even?) with FLStudio, but didn't actually fully get into it until about 2006, before then it was something I just had and never did anything with. I like to think I'm continuously getting better, and at the very least I feel like I'm finding a unique niche to work in. Probably the biggest help to my production of electronic music oddly enough was joining a punk band; I can't really play piano but I was their keyboardist and being in a genre you're completely unfamiliar with playing an instrument you've never really played was really a great learning experience and was a great way for me to get into rock music in general.
  4. Not bad at all, but not really my style either; well produced and nice melodies but something about it feels...plastic, like the music has a giant neon sign around it saying "This is the emotion you should be feeling right now" as opposed to just properly nailing a vibe. That said it does seem to work much better for his cheesier 80s electro-house stuff ("Computer Music" is rather impressive and sick at points) and he's definitely an impressive producer all-around.
  5. Do you really need to review the review thread of his video reviews?
  6. Exactly, its basically phone sex for video games, except the price might be cheaper? Iono, never paid for phone sex.
  7. Kinda meh review aside from the mortar-run bit, possibly because I personally love the game and also possibly because he only reviewed the single-player portion so the review reads off like pretty much every other review he's done of war shooters.
  8. This is about as DnB as it gets, actually, and very well done at that. Definitely one of the fatter reeses I've heard on here and the drums sound really well done. Big up DOA crew.
  9. Thanks, although I don't think I'm going to add nature sounds but thanks for the suggestion anyway. Also, possibly final version is up now. It hasn't really changed much at all since the last version except an outro now exists, prolonging your (dis)enjoyment of the mix for another 20 or 30 seconds or so.
  10. Thanks for the comments. Yeah Tread Lightly is definitely something I need to man up and finish because I've got people at my Uni riding me for that one as well.
  11. Oh yeah, Spor's been killing it super hard recently, I don't think I've heard the man produce a bad track and the Conquerors & Commoners EP (which Halogen is on) may be his best yet. And yeah there are a lot of similarities between Dubstep and DnB, a large part probably due to how many DnB producers also make dubstep (Black Sun Empire, Calibre, Chasing Shadows, Phace, a lot of others).
  12. Seriously sad news, guy was a sick producer and I was looking forward to hearing more music from him. My condolences to his friends and family.
  13. Except the connectivity with iTunes was another brilliant move, along with, yes, the marketing, which cannot be discounted at all. The "Get a Mac" commercials to which most people are referring to only started in 2006, 5 years after the original iPod launched and right around the peak of its popularity. Sony is not in the same position, people haven't been talking about the great Sony line of products, Sony hasn't created an entire design aesthetic based on the colour of their products. The Sony Move may still be a legitimately good product, but I'd like to see it in action, and not in a commercial that focused more on tech demos and appealing to its own customers as opposed to real-world usage and pricing. At the moment it looks like an HD Wii, which may sound good in theory but will suck without the games.
  14. Pretty much, although the mere existence of an Xbox 360 version is keeping the universe aligned with hate.
  15. Except Sony didn't make a device pretty much ubiquitous with 21st century music, or a smartphone that still a couple years later has other manufacturers playing catch-up (very debatable, granted, but still the impact must be noted). Yes the whole Mac vs. PC thing was overplayed but the commercials were generally funny and had their own very distinct style to them that was fresh and was also a kick back to some of their earlier ad campaigns. I agree completely with The Damned when he said that the "Kevin Butler" series of ads was the best thing they had going for them recently. I mean, the crazy weird ones were cool but obviously not going to convert a lot of people. That said this commercial (which I hope is a web-only thing) just feels so childish and unnecessary, it looks like a visualization of a fanboy on a forum ranting about how great the Playstation Move is. But then again I'm a slight 360 fanboy, in the sense that I own a 360 and don't really have any immediate plans to get a PS3 (although I did think about it when my out-of-warranty Xbox RROD'd). Also, I need to take a shower because I think I just defended both Microsoft and Apple in the same forum post.
  16. I feel its worth mentioning Fem-Shepard from the ME universe, primarily because of how little gender (aside from the romantic pursuits, at least) seems to affect how the game is played, yet still the character does end up having a strong personality based on your choices but never is it the typical female video game stereotype. Hell, pretty much all of the women in the ME series apply, and even though Miranda is obviously meant to be an attractive woman its less of a sex symbol thing and more of a woman who is simply rigidly confident in herself.
  17. Hey Emu you may want to put in the title that only the crappy tracks aren't taken
  18. Fuuuuck you smashed it, good work, and way to represent the US DnB scene. I followed you on soundcloud, definitely digging this. EDIT: Ok, that is a bit of a long silence before the second drop, is it supposed to be like that?
  19. Its not a DKC2 thing, but a Drum and Bass thing. In actuality the reese is based off of a house track ( IIRC, hence the name "reese") but has since evolved from ( ) to ( ). Basically its anything based off of two detuned saw waves, but obviously in the Spor track a significantly larger amount of processes has been applied and in this day and age it pretty much applies to any warped and squelchy bassline like that in DnB.EDIT: I just realized he could be referring to the original bassline from the source, in which case I took out and wouldn't really call a reese, just a filtered saw wave.
  20. I don't want a reese in this track because it would kill the vibe I'm going for. And also there is a fair amount of sub on this track, inaudible on iPod headphones and such but its definitely there.
  21. Jesus Christ why is Giga Bowser getting such a beating? People are allowed to say negative things about the album too, don't take it so personally or feel the need to defend the album. Not exactly the best welcome to the site he's (she's?) had. Anyway, checked out the album, dug some tracks, not so much others, but overall the production was nice and the remixers who took part did a great job.
  22. POTENTIAL MASS EFFECT 2 SPOILERS: On my renegade playthrough I *barely* didn't have enough renegade points to keep both Legion and Tali loyal, and when I say barely, I mean my renegade gauge appears to be full. I've also done all of the sidequests so its either wait for the DLC to come out, or play through the game again (or both) END SPOILERS
  23. I haven't had a chance to listen yet but I'd like to thank whoever is hosting the .zip, makes things SO much easier considering my Uni doesn't allow Bittorrent.
  24. Well I'm loving your recent output for what its worth, especially the SF remix. Keep it up.

  25. I don't mind the saving at all, and I feel it exists to hook in those "15-30 minutes at a time" gamers that seem to be more and more common.
