  1. Yeah wow. You sure screwed me over by submitting that fast. Boy, that I'm right now convulsing on the ground from your spiting. Good job man. Seriously, the only thing you did is give yourself another rejection, and now you have to wait 3 weeks before you can submit something else. Idjit. (YOU KNOW I'M KIDDING RIGHT :D:D JK JOKE'S ON YOU)
  2. Define inspiration. Don't you need musical ideas to create music? Do you honestly think most music is created by trying random sequences of notes and listening if they sound good? What if you're tone-deaf, what if you don't hear musical ideas in your head all the time? Don't assume that it's easy for everyone just because you might have a certain degree of musicality. I beg to differ. It takes time to learn to create music if you're starting from scratch and it's naive to think you can take a few years off and start again with making music of the same quality/quantity as before.
  3. Aside from the issues you addressed yourself, this sounds like a pretty obvious Rob Dougan - Clubbed to Death rip-off. Can't say I like it much in terms of production either, but you've pointed out a lot of the stuff that's wrong with it yourself. Strings are manageable, percussion needs to be way tighter.
  4. Well, first of all, welcome to the forums. What you're talking about is a Sequencer, it allows you to input notes and if it's connected to a virtual instrument you can let it play back the notes you've put in. Sequencers come in different shapes and forms. I believe the most common one is where you put in notes through a piano roll (Most popular programs, like FL Studio and Reason use this), but there are other ways, such as through notation (with a program like Sibelius or Finale). Anyway, I'd like to redirect you to the remixing forums, where you can find a lot of help to get started and a lot of answers to your questions. Good luck getting started =)
  5. Why did you go and submit it? I'm pretty sure it could have been a lot better yet, and now it'll just get rejected in a few months. Learn to be more patient in terms of feedback, PM people privately, ask in #ocrwip. Also, compare yourself to OCRemixes that get accepted and rejected (The more recent, the better), how is your mix holding up in comparison? Let's say you have to at least be above me (mostly in terms of production, though arrangement has to be close as well) before you can even think of getting accepted.
  6. Might want to try another torrent, seems like some files were missing from your download.
  7. Besides, if ANYTHING, the next project will be an F-zero GX character theme remix album. I STAND BY THAT. >=|
  8. The hell, this sounds like something I'd record in one afternoon. Where's the incredible guitar solos a la Maybe I'm a Lion =( I agree with Fishy, the rest of this album better make up for this.
  9. Haha, I don't know how Rozovian can draw a comparison between this and Hoboka's stuff. No offense to Hoboka, but this is WAY better in terms of concept, arrangement, melodies, execution, sequencing and sample quality. The arrangement on Burning Star is TIGHT, the orchestral intro reminds me of the Super Mario Galaxy OST, which is AWESOME. The transition to the electronica part could be better, but still, it works. The downside is the mixing on the whole is lacking quite a bit. It's bearable during the orchestral section, but when the electronica beats drop, they seem to overpower just about everything. The left-panned electronic beeping seems to distract from the lead instrument as well. ALL the leads need to be WAY LOUDER and more center-panned. It's just sad that the piano plays such a beautiful melody but I have to strain to hear it over the beeping and drums. Overall, I'd say this is nearly up to standard, just needs better balancing and you're golden. Go for it!
  10. I think my finned british buddy has been working on an FF8 medley that incorporates this song, very good stuff.
  11. source, and yeah, I've been interpretative.
  12. Don't really have the time to comment this, but it's usually advisable to use a tad of reverb on the cymbals so they don't sound so dry and up-close.
  13. Or the LFO-filtered version! " Weeeeeoooooeeeooooeeeooooooeeeoooooeeeooooo" (In before Darkesword!)
  14. This has some awesome energy and drive going on, I'm definitely digging the Pendulum-style Drums and Bass. My only problem with this is the cluttering in the leads, there's just so much going on! A good example is when the lead starts playing during the intro, there's so much delay/ other stuff going on that the melody is hard to make out, and this happens during the other sections quite a lot as well. The Reese bass is doing a good job, the drums could use a bit more sidechaining to get the whole thing pumping. I don't like the samples used for the kick and snare very much though, the kick is way too clicky, and the snare could stand to have a fatter lower-end (make sure it peaks around 200 Hz). A good idea would be to listen to some Pendulum (or whoever your inspiration for this mix was) and try to mimic their drum sounds as good as you can. Great stuff for the rest
  15. Haha, I'm loving the intro, it's VERY Banjo-Kazooie-ish, with the chromatic percussion. Samples sound very nice, though the dulcimer (or whatever the instrument during the faster section after the intro is) sounds kind of fake on the repeated notes. The sitar during the second half is probably meant to sound like it's slightly out of tune, but it is quite distracting nonetheless. Overall there's some good ideas, a lovely soundscape and some tight instrumentation and sequencing throughout the whole piece, but I can't help but feel that the whole thing needs more cohesion. Especially during the first half it just sounds like you're jumping from section to section with almost no overlapping stuff, sort of weak transitions and a quickly changing tempo. Try to work on that and this will turn out great, I'm sure
  16. Yeah, I figured as much, I don't like the tone at all either, I think I'll just re-record with my standard setup for the next update.
  17. Also, don't quote me on this, but I think there's a surprisingly large amount of work connected to actually posting a mix. What with uploading it to all the mirrors, making a good and witty write-up, opening a review thread, and making sure all the links work. The people involved in this have lives outside of OCR as well, so they can't keep posting remixes around the clock.
  18. I make a really phat Contra 4 arrangement (Harbor), turns out they only want very conservative (near-covers) in the project. Anyway; made in two days, and yes, that is in fact BooBass, and yes, I will replace it, Also, production tipz please D: . Enjoy. http://www.tindeck.com/audio/files/n/nlqp-Contra.mp3
  19. I'm REALLY sorry, I didn't write the wip with any saxophone part in mind, but have a listen to it on the Xenogears boards and tell me if you can come up with a suitable sax part for it, we'll see if/how we can shoehorn it in.
  20. Big Hugz You Swede!!1` =* Guess there's no big AnSo-posting spree today after all
  21. If I was able to make money with my musical skills, I sure as hell wouldn't be whoring myself out on here . Yes, I collaborate for free, so if you think you can come up with a good arrangement I'd be happy to do the lion's share of the production, recording and the sequencing.
  22. To you, and actually any other people participating, I'll say I'll be more than happy to lay down guitars and other collabish stuff. My demo for Harbor got rejected for being too liberal (THOUGH AWESOME!) so my arrangement style is a bit too out there for this project, but I'm still up for collabs. I'm pretty good at guitar (decent recording setup as well), and have some serious sequencing chops when it comes to drums and synth solos So anyone who needs me, PM me.
  23. Thanks for signing up just to give us this thread! Also, narrator from Bard's tale remake. Thread over.
  24. If you can get the aria without vocals (from the link Moseph gave), don't even bother with audio editing software, the results are usually less than stellar anyway.
