  1. Quick update time: First off, I'd like to formally announce that my good friend Cody Wedel who's been going by the username Donkey Kong Slippa here on the forums, is going to be taking on the role of Assistant Director for the project. I was initially planning on handling the project alone, but the more I talked to him and bounced ideas off of him, the more I realized that he's as passionate about the project and DKC3 in general as I am, and that his insight is going to be very valuable as the project goes on. So welcome to him! Next off, I also wanted to let you all know that we've decided on an official title for the project, but we're gonna hold off on unveiling it until it comes time for the 2nd preview track. In addition, the plan is to simultaneously release some artwork that TheMaverickk has been cooking up that, if the product turns out anywhere near as good as the concept, is going to be AMAZING. So basically, there's lots of stuff on the horizon - official project name, audio preview, and a visual preview should be coming in the next few weeks if all goes well! We just need to get those last 4 WAVs in for it to happen Cheers everybody, thanks for the continued support and enthusiasm!
  2. Brandon's mostly right, actually - halc's mix is actually titled "Northern K-ReMisphere" But yeah, I love that clever little wordplay you did there, OCRE! And good news for those of you eagerly anticipating the next preview, GSlicer went and took a solid chunk out of the countdown by turning in not one, but TWO final WAVs tonight! If you're a fan of fluid beats and insane electronic production, these should resonate nicely with you. Expect to hear some of GSlicer's work in the preview, it shouldn't be much longer now!
  3. Yeah, Theophany. Control yourself goddammit! Then you'd better have another WAV in veerrry soon!
  4. I'll leave the bulk of this for Nutritious because he's unequivocally better at orchestral production and arrangement than myself or halc. However, I'll throw you a few criticisms that I noticed this time around: The start of the song is really abrupt, I wish it would start with a second of silence so the first brass note isn't cut off on the front end. The main brass lead you used is, unfortunately, a pretty weak sample. There's a significant lack of articulation to it, which further exposes the thin-sounding sample. It ultimately feels like every note is being played exactly the same way. Once you get more of an ensemble brass section going and there's several instruments playing the lead melody, it's better. The piano is still a sore spot, and I think part of the problem is in the delay effect you're using, which combined with the sample makes it sound doubly-unrealistic. More velocity tweaking (especially on the arpeggios) is definitely necessary here, and even then I still think you could benefit from a better sample. There's instances with your leads (both piano and brass) where they'll start off at a perfectly acceptable volume, but then as more and more instruments are layered on, it ends up getting drowned out and the lead no longer cuts through the soundscape like it should. Watch your levels when you start introducing lots of instruments and make sure your proper sounds are making it through to the forefront. The transition into a more electronic beat is nice (though there's some high-end percussion in the electronic beat that sound shrill and piercing, I personally wish there was more punch in your kick drum and less high-frequency percussive elements.) In general I liked the mixing of those two genres, I think you handled it nicely. This is a very solid arrangement and definitely does justice to the source. A lot of these issues alone might not be enough to stop it from passing the panel, but I don't think it's above the bar once all the issues are compounded together :\ I really hope Nutritious chimes in his two cents on this, I think he could be a lot more specific and helpful than me and halc, but hopefully this sets you in the right direction when you go to make touchups. Best of luck!
  5. biyatch, you need to rehost your wordpress-themed halc9bit.com site so I can show it to Stevo :-P

  6. I'm still leaning towards something that integrates either "Double Trouble!" or "Northern ReMixphere" somehow in the title. No amazing ideas have really jumped forward at me, maybe I'll play the game again and see if that helps spark my imagination. And yeah, The Vagrance is right, the next preview is gonna be bomb It's just a matter of getting those 6 WAVs in and I can whip it up and unleash it on the world!
  7. Oh thaaaaaat's right. Memory lapse. -pulls out sharpie- Theere. I think I got it right... right?
  8. Heh, believe it or not, I actually do. My recall memory has kind of sucked lately, I've had a harder time remembering basic facts that I should normally know. It's probably unrelated though ;-)

  9. Just updated the first post a bit more with some bonus mixers that have recently joined on or that I neglected to add in the first place. Say hello to Some generic random user you've never heard of before, Dafydd, and veteran remixer mv, who's coming on to the project to make his first remix in 5 years! Yay! And please also welcome Monkey Kong the group known for the amazing "Dolphin Ride" remix, who's gonna be covering a handful of sources from the GBA soundtrack to create an epic prog rock medley for the album! Very excited to have these guys!!
  10. Actually, he's got a point. I'd appreciate it if you could refrain from double/triple/quintuple posting and just edit new information into your previous posts for the most part. Gracias!
  11. Hey, I do what I can to plug up-and-comers on the site and let everyone know how awesome they are :-) It's entirely my pleasure!

  12. Arrright! Theophany just gave me the final version of the GBA Intro Tune (which, for those of you that don't know, is essentially Aquatic Ambiance from DKC1) making it his first completed project mix ever The remix is incredibly ambient, chilling, and intense, and probably the most professional-sounding song I've gotten so far. Fans of chillout/ambient should love what Theophany's come up with!
  13. I'm holding up alright, it's not as painful as I was told it would be (as long as I'm on my painkillers.) they kinda seem to be losing their effectiveness over time though, which is gonna suck eventually.

But thanks for the concern though, that means a lot! :-D

  14. Hey dude, thanks for checking in :-) I'm actually doing pretty damn good, all things considered. As long as I'm on the pain meds, I can eat and do pretty much whatever I want, i just gotta make sure they don't wear off ;-)

This is lots less painful than I expected.

  15. So, I'm going out of commission for a day or two on account of getting my wisdom teeth taken out and I don't think I'll want to be on the computer, or do anything other than sleep and watch TV. I doubt anything urgent will come up regarding the project, but if it does, talk to halc or Bahamut - they can find my phone number If anyone surprises me with a WIP or final WAV by the time I get back, though, I'll love you forever
  16. As far as samples go, I have to side with halc on this. The string samples are a bit weak at times. I'll go a bit further and say that the bass could probably be a little bit stronger, but except for the intro when you're playing high notes with the bass, it's not really an issue and I think the judges would probably be willing to let it slide. But the synthy strings definitely don't fit in here and that sample issue definitely needs to be fixed. Cello notes sound good though The mix reminds me a lot of zyko's work - very personalized and human, very organic, rough-around-the-edges performance and production. It sounds like I'm bashing on your mix but really, I think these qualities serve to enhance it, not detract. I enjoyed your remix very much but there's a chance that, even if you fixed the strings issue, it might be a bit too rough for the judges. I hope not, but there's a chance. If I were you, I'd fix the strings, then submit it and see how it goes. If it passes the panel, then cool! If not, you can cross the resub bridge when you come to it. Good luck! Awesome remix
  17. Well, I've gotta say that, despite the pretty competent arrangement here, you're going to have a tough time scraping by with those samples There's a very weak and thin quality about them that leaves the mix feeling rather empty, despite the fact that your arrangement has a lot of dynamic range. Especially when you hit the high notes, they take a noticeable hit in volume that might be due to a limiter, or just a shoddy piano sample. Either way, with some better samples I'm sure this would have no problem passing the panel. I really like the arrangement and the articulation/humanization is actually pretty well done for a sequenced mix. Nice work on that!
  18. Yeeaaaaahhh, Josh Whelchel just marathon-completed his Credits mix (which clocks in at over 5 minutes) almost all in one night! And yes, it's incredible, taking a pretty simple source and going absolutely crazy with it. Electro-dance with some madman solos... should be a great way to end out the album!! Thanks man! Also received silver updates from The Vagrance and Theophany, and updates from zircon & tefnek as well. You guys are finally coming around, thanks for the crazy amount of WIPs I've been receiving as of late!
  19. Yeah, that was painfully obvious. Should teach me not to try to exercise subtlety at 6 AM So I'll just come out and say that Dave Wise is interested in the project to some degree. After Serious Monkey Business, I don't think that really even qualifies as a secret and wasn't specifically what I was referring to in my post. The really cool part(s) about that, though, I'm gonna keep under wrap for now since it hasn't all been set in stone yet, but you'll all probably hear about it as soon as it's ready to be revealed. Like Brandon said, I'm not one for keeping secrets very well Oh, and @Electrolisystem, there was a misunderstanding. The song you're talking about is up for grabs. I updated the front page so there's no confusion.
  20. You already changed this one from Mod Review, but I just wanted to say that this is awesome and should have no problem passing the panel. If I had to nitpick, the drumloop that you repeatedly use during the breakdown and again after that with the the snare hits gets a little grating, and I wouldn't mind seeing that change up a bit (I can get you a timestamp if you don't know which one I'm talking about) but ehh, if you've already called it finished I don't think it's a dealbreaker by any means Nice work bro!
  21. I'm on pretty much all the time, if I'm not then shoot me a PM :-)

  22. I don't discriminate based on who's remixing - it's all about the quality of the mix itself. If you're a beginning remixer, it's unlikely that you'll be able to make something up to the quality bar (just listen to the songs that get posted everyday on OCRemix to get an idea for what I'm going for) but it's worth a shot
  23. It's just a placeholder so I can just fill in the artist name when someone DOES claim them. The links you see are for Youtube videos.
  24. Ok, so, halc's got 2 WAVs and a WIP, GSlicer's got a WAV and 2 silver WIPs, and Theophany's got 3 silver WIPs. Where the rest of you at? Actually, I've been getting a fair amount of updates lately. I've gotten songs from: - Theophany - halc & Another Soundscape - The Vagrance - OA - ilp0 - Josh Whelchel You guys are cool <3 Much love. As for the rest of the project, I wanted to let you all know that The Maverickk has something INSANELY awesome and unique lined up for that. Some of you know what it is, but soon he should be making a post on the private forums soon enough to put it all into detail. And thanks for those of you still expressing your interest in the project, I thrive off of that stuff and I think the project as a whole does better when everyone's excited to hear the outcome. So, here's the deal - when I get 20 WAVs in total, I'll throw out an extended preview twice as long as the last one! So, bug whoever you need to to make this happen - if all the people who are currently sitting at Silver status turned their songs in, we'd only need 1 more WAV to reach that goal. In addition, if the time is right, I might reveal another secret I've been keeping up my sleeve about the project, but no promises there. We'll just have to wait and see on that one
  25. I'm Emunator and I approve this message! Happy birthday you crazy limey bastard! You fill my heart with ANIMOOOOOSSSIIITTTYYYYYY!!
