MEETUP: Baltimore May '08 - pics page 19
The Pezman replied to DrumUltimA's topic in General Discussion
No no no no nonononononoNONONONONONONO!!!!!! I go to school in Carlisle, PA. Philly is maybe an hour and a half away by train. However, at the end of this month (i.e. next month), I am going to the University of South Carolina for two months. I return in August. A Philly meetup NEXT month is the worst possible time for me. Please have another one come the fall. -
Once I discovered he was The Joker (and IMO he was closer to the concept that Nicholson) I will believe anything about that man. My friend thinks he's trying to sound like Phil Hartman (old Troy McClure) as Zap. Thoughts?

What program do you guys use to remix?
The Pezman replied to newkeithmoon's topic in Music Composition & Production
Well this is a site where people remix. Not everyone here generally "makes music" since not everyone here is a composer. As such, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask what you remix with as opposed to what you compose with. If someone happens to do original stuff as well they can say so. -
What I don't understand is why he needs that many peripherals. I think that, once I learn everything I need to, I should be able to accomplish something similar with a new high-performance laptop (with a mouse peripheral), the VCI 300 and a single MIDI keyboard. Delegating most of the control to the laptopmeans I know what's coming out, and any sounds I want to add on top of that can be triggered by the keyboard, which can map to a separate program. It would be quite easy to incorporate video as well. Anyone know when the VCI 300 is due out?

Depends on whether you consider "fine" to be developing a single role very strongly or working on a variety of characters and contexts. If the former, sure. If the latter, not really (Dan Castellaneta and John DiMaggio are the only ones from that group who I would say fit that description).

Haha, yes! When you lend your voice to a Monkey Island 5 practical joke, your coolness goes up 200%. Jim Cummings is the fucking man. I think he's voiced at least one character in every cartoon show I've ever watched. I think I do a pretty good imitation of his Robotnik. Tara Strong has had a very good career, as well. P.S. That show hasn't been called "Grim & Evil" for years.

Opinion: Has the new generation been jilted?
The Pezman replied to Salluz's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, the best of past eras find their way to their gamers of today. I LOVED that MGS Subsistence came with MG1 and 2 and was all over that shit. -
Nintendo asking for Virtual Console suggestions
The Pezman replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
::shrug:: I've heard of it. I looked it up when Clock Tower 3 came out. That got some press. Then you'll love this. -
I've never actually heard of OneNote. I always took notes in Word (which I switched to from OpenOffice after 2007 came out). I looked it up, but it's not clear how it works as opposed to Word or Powerpoint.

Yes, yes. These are worlds better. Same question about Hidden Palace, though. Are we going to see that? And if so, what does this mean for Wood Zone and other such beta zones? I know you're going to for the traditional though updated look for all in-game graphics, but what about the ending FMV? I ask because I stumbled across this. You may want to contact the guy.

Mixing in virtualized Windows
The Pezman replied to The Pezman's topic in Music Composition & Production
None of my classmates or teachers here seem to have an with it, as I've never given a "holier than thou" impression when I do it. Even if people did have an issue, that's their problem, because my handwriting is horrible (motor coordination - actually have a disability service for it) and the benefits of being able to easily edit them later and keep them in one place are too good to give up. Given that I'm not getting the new machine until June, we'll have to see. I do know I will investigate getting Logic. Thanks for thinking of me. I'll definitely consider that. -

Let's not forget what always happen when an artistic medium matures: people will pretty much only remember the good ones. How many operas will you hear about which everyone thought were terrible? What English literature made it into the canon that just plain sucked? Yes, there were great games back then, but like the great games of today, they must be put in context, against the not-so-great games and complete garbage that are released alongside them. -
Mixing in virtualized Windows
The Pezman replied to The Pezman's topic in Music Composition & Production
Hmmm... I'll keep that in mind. Naturally, Dickinson's bookstore doesn't have Logic, but University of South Carolina very well might. Thanks for the tip. At any rate, I didn't mean to sound like I wanted to grip on to FL Studio with all my might. Just what options I had. And if I do decide to dual-boot at some point, I will have it. Do the low-latency core audio drivers carry over to Windows? ASIO4All hasn't panned out for me on this machine. -
Mixing in virtualized Windows

Even Logic Express seems like a fairly expensive program to sink my funds into at this point. If I go places with this, who knows? But unless and until that happens I'm pretty sure I'd want to start out with something a bit cheaper. Actually, it's more a matter of convenience. If I'm playing a game but then realize I need to run a program on OSX, all I have to do is quit the game and then the virtualization, as opposed to shutting down and rebooting. It may sound trivial, but in the moment it would keep my workflow/gameflow continuous. -
Songbird. Zoom Player. IMO, the best organizer is the Operating File Sytem. When I used iTunes I never knew where my music actually was.

Mixing in virtualized Windows
The Pezman replied to The Pezman's topic in Music Composition & Production
I'm certainly not unwilling. I'm still new enough in all this that I could go anywhere. I've experimented with Reason and Logic before. But people extoll the virtues of FL left and right, so I wanted to see whether I could still retain access to that program with a Mac. It's really a matter of what is best for a noob to focus his efforts on. As for the overhead, I hope that dynamic resource allocation, the absolute latest chipset, high speed dual core processing and restriction of intensive programs within OSX during virtualization will make running VMWare Windows a silky smooth experience. -
My clunker of a PC laptop has given me so many problems that I'm about ready to cleave it in half. I need a laptop (as opposed to a desktop) for purposes of notetaking in classes and easy portability. Fortunately, my 21st birthday just occurred (no thread ) and my parents have agreed to pay for part of a top-of-the-line Macbook Pro (which I'll get in June, when it's revised with the Montevina chipset). I've railed against Macs for years, but they are becoming harder and harder to ignore. I like to say I will be a self-hating Mac user. One of the many perks of owning the latest Mac is the ability to still use Windows and any programs in it. However, I don't want to bother with a drive partition, since I will try and keep all the utilities and files within OSX that I can. As such, I'll use VMWare Fusion to virtualize into Windows. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to play games no problem this way, but what about mixing? Does the low latency of OSX's core audio transfer to FL Studio in Windows? How easy will it be to transfer finished wav files back and forth? Should I focus on VSTs for Windows or Mac?

I don't mind the idea of MIDI rips for the purposes of this project, and I don't think most of the people posting here really do either. I just don't think the soundfonts assigned are all that good. Yes. P.S. There's a track for Hidden Palace there. Is that making it into the game?

I'll see what I can't come up with later. P.S. I have no idea how to read that interview.

Uber lameage. We could totally set up for an orchestral jam session. -
I've been told that keeping the comp parts exposed is actually worse for circulation. Truth?
