  3. Again, I put some feedback on the PRC218 thread!

  4. I didn't manage to even listen to each of the tracks in time, but here's a little something about each track: Hoboka - Disputed Perspectives: Creative and interpretive, successful! Very nice slowdown. I also like the use of the fake sax. DjMokram - Spontaneous Combustion: Impressive variety of variations, and also very good, varied sound and production. Sir NutS - Agressive Parasite: Hard-hitting beat, and good sound throughout the track. Some of the rhythms of the keyboard part in just after the midpoint of the piece isn't as groovy as it could be, but it's a good idea and close! Overall it's a solid dance piece, with good additional lead writing. Trism - Lost Sight: Impressive PRC debut! Like many others in their votes, I too took notice of the ambient qualities this piece had and enjoyed it greatly. Those first place votes were not undeserved! Meccaneer - Temporal Perspective: I loved the beat! Overall it's a bit too long, and the piano sound gets a little grating. Good ideas in there in any case, could stands some editing! Obtuse - Hidden Identity: Nice piece of electronica, with an excellent sonic palette. The lead that enters has around 00:18 or so has a problem with its slow attack I think, which makes it sound messy rhythmically. The clap sound is a bit exposed, mixed a bit high and, I guess it's a bit cheap to carry the beat completely. The basic idea of the beat works however, I could stand to hear more variation and sophistication in the writing. The bird sounds fit in so well I didn't even notice them the first time I listened to it! I like also how it builds up, a little slowly, and it's a little long perhaps, but there are a lot of ideas. Mitochondrial Groove - Chickenwarlord: The faster pace does stand out. The "midi default" piano in the beginning is pretty stiff, but there's much more attention to sound overall. There are some interesting explorations especially in the middle. Though they don't fully fit together with the source in my opinion, they have enjoyable stuff in there and could fit better with some work. Parasitic Reave - sggod89: The guitar and rock/metal drums make this piece stand out. The synth compartment is also very well done, starting with the slightly distorted bell/electric piano in the beginning. Very moody! The tempo picks up in just the right moment. Really good change-up! The organ lead is also very fitting for the part. Good structure too. If I had made a track this round, I would probably called it Adjective Substantive. I mean seriously, look at all the track names of this round. edit: Oh, and looks like my vote - 1st: Dj Morkam, 2nd: Trism and 3rd: Hoboka - wouldn't have affected the outcome. --Eino
  5. Due to lack of time/not getting it going, we drop the claim on A Second Truth to the Left. I've left a PM to Bahamut, but he's probably busy, so I thought I'd leave note here as well, hoping this would spark interest to the track. --Eino
  6. Awesome turnout, hope I manage to throw in a vote. --Eino
  7. I tried to send you a PM, not sure if it went through - it's not in my sent messages. Let me know!

  8. A highly consistent (duhhh) and enjoyable album. Good work! My daughter (16 months) likes it too. --Eino
  9. Hi, wanted to make sure my PRC217 feedback reaches you: http://ocremix.org/forums/showpost.php?p=858487&postcount=7

  10. That's been discussed a couple of times in the thread already, though I don't recall what Archangel thought. In my opinion a tribute to PC game music on OCR, the mix should be from a game that gets posted as a DOS or Windows game. That'd make sense (again IMO) if the game was first released on PC, or the soundtrack was distinct for the PC version. Not that posting on OCR always worked like that, there was a Prelude mix early on that got posted as a FF5 ReMix to get a first FF5 ReMix on the site, and recently a Fallout 3 ReMix was marked as a PS3 game to get a first PS3 ReMix. I personallt think ports should not count. There's a lot that I've played on PC that I'd like to remix some day (Pinball Dreams/Fantasies/Illusions, Zeliard, Slipheed) but are originally from Amiga or PC8001 or arcades or something. That wouldn't really feel like a tribute to PC games for me. --Eino
  11. Pretty cool piece sggod89, I always enjoy hearing your submissions. One crit that I would have is that the mix seems pretty heavy on the low end or lower mids or something, it's somewhat muddy because of that. Not so muddy that I couldn't hear everything, but a little stuffy regardless. But overall a very good combination of synths/guitar textures, good lead work.. nice atmosphere, good balance of aggressive rhythms, atmospheric synth pads and gliding leads. --Eino
  12. Looking at the video description, it's an Atari ST game. I'm hoping to get to render & wip-threadize my updated Deus Ex track from PRC199 soon, ish. --Eino
  13. Ooomph.. I still haven't caught the NES Jams album! Too much goodness! --Eino
  14. Unfortunately, the initiative has a time restriction of up to year 2000. But freeware games, definitely cool! Nothing says they can't have awesome music. And be awesome games. --Eino
  15. Wow, beautiful source. Lots of material to work with, nice melodies, passages, riffs, switching between 6/8 and 4/4 time signatures.. there's a lot you can do with this. Nice pick Chickenwarlord! --Eino
  16. Definitely still enjoying this one. Not doing a side-by-side comparison to see what's changed, but, sounds good to me. I also didn't notice any off notes last time around (hangs head in shame). --Eino
  17. I agree! Even if it was four years ago. --Eino
  18. I suppose the main thing is that, when the mix hits the front page, it would be listed under either DOS or Windows games in the database. Depends on djpretzel/site staff, but I would guess this would require that the DOS version would have a distinct version of the soundtrack. --Eino
  19. I wasn't able to participate, but I have to say it's awesome to see another successful round! --Eino
  20. A ReMix from Quest for Glory, by jrm, just got posted. From djp's writeup: "DOS/PC games are still, even after 12+ years, underrepresented on OCR, relative to the amount of amazing music that was written for them." You know what to do! --Eino
  21. Quite enjoyable stuff, and I'm listening to othe Prognos videos now. Sounds you brought this material to the band, I'd have loved to hear the trumpet refer to the original at some point I'm not quite sure, but I also thought that the harmonic liberties that the trumpet took sounded awkward at points. At other times it sounded quite wonderful, which made the CoT sound new again. Most of the time the source really wasn't very dominant. If I was at a gig and heard this, I'd probably would've caught the cello melody as a really cool shout out/reference to the original, but not heard the piece as a ReMix. Of course, that doesn't detract from the enjoyability! --Eino
  22. Enjoyed this a ton. Really fascinating stuff. I tend to like this sort of layered/delay loop thing. I like how much you could get out of the cello: riffs, long legato lines, bass lines, many percussive effects.. I especially was appreciative of the percussive layers you started adding around one minute mark. (As a minor nitpick, there was a bit of boomy bass, like air hitting microphone.) I would be a bit critical of the length and structure: when you drop the beat after 3 minutes, this part could well serve as the outro - in my opinion the piece would be complete. It builds up to that point so well. When the beat comes back in, there's not that much that we haven't heard before until 4:32, I think this soloing was adding something new again. Don't get me wrong, the variations you added in the between were good too, but I couldn't get over the "ah, this is the same part again" feeling. One thought that came to mind was that the piece could go from the peaceful part to harder riffing/soloing more aprubtly. Like going from 3:38 to 4:28 directly. That's a chunk of critizism on a piece that's already excellent in my opinion, but in my mind there's room to make it even better. In any case I get really a lot, lot out of it, one of the most refreshing things I've heard in a while! Thank you! --Eino
  23. I like how this is progressing. I keep enjoying the piece. The tuned percussion you've added that comes in about 2/3 is mixed too loud. The sfx around the same spot that you added earlier are still a bit loud, I notice you've turned the volume down but could turn them down a little more. I've got to agree with Rozo, I except the piece to go on for more, perhaps kicking up a gear. In any case, looking forward to the next update! --Eino
  24. Yay, Star Control! I'll have to agree with Rozo, good and bad. The atmosphere is very promising, it's omnious enough to fit the Kzer-Za, but also quite chill. But the source isn't there dominatingly enough I think. It sort of reminds me of the source, but I don't get "this is the Kzer-Za theme!" feeling. I also think that adding the new bass thing in the third version also added some bad-sounding dissonance. I kind of liked the second version better, although the feel that the new bass added sounded different from the second version (more omnious and less "nice" chill), and may be just what you're going for. I've also tried to make this (really rather sparse) source to 4/4 (combining it with the intro theme), and I couldn't do it, at the time at least, so that it would have sounded good *and* familiar. This adaptation sounds good arrangement-wise and the basic idea (although production needs work to be on OCR level), but it's not familiar enough. Good start though I think, and it was fun to listen to! --Eino
