  1. Oh shit you can drink now. Well, it was nice seeing you as a productive moderator for at least a little while... ;)

    Happy birthday, man.

  2. I'm sorry for the poor Gauntlet video - the one I previously used was taken down, for some reason, and I can't find anything better, right now.
  3. HA. I wanted to get a finished version of this track up, since the one in the compo was not as nice as I wanted it to be, production-wise. I tried to ninja the d/l link before Darkesword posted the zip, but I was a few hours too late for that. I'm a nice guy, so I'll share the much improved version for everyone to listen to, anyway - I didn't want to post this before voting was over, though, since I didn't want to skew the votes (it's only fair - I didn't finish it proper on time). Magnus Divinicus Chiptunicus For those wondering, the themes used are Mega Man 3 and , Magnet Man, , and from Chrono Trigger (because schala). No, not everything from every source is used, and I do borrow more heavily from some sources than others, as I did try to make this a coherent piece of music without it becoming a medley. I hope that doesn't turn too many people off to it. Alright, enjoy the sexy music.
  4. Kansas isn't a city, silly, it's a state. And no, I'm not near Kansas.
  5. Haha, I remember talking about this at length in this ol' thread. has a pretty nice quote of that track. FFIX's Ipsen Castle quotes it as well, iirc.Yeah, I'd like to find as many as these as possible, so keep them coming.
  6. Wow. Hey Darkesword, you have absolute power over how this match will end. This is easily the closest match in the competition, with nearly a three way tie. Not that it matters point-wise (as the first three places are awarded the same, this time), but it's still quite awesome how it turned out. Nice way to end the compo, everyone.
  7. Not going to lie, it took me by surprise, too. Sounded like they put in a remix in the middle of their soundtrack and just said 'Fuck it, let's just go with that'. A very good track, though.
  8. It's going to be structured similar to Darkesword's compos, so check one out here. Read the first page, and likely that's how this one will be set up.
  9. If you're still taking ideas, I'd like it to be a possibility to allow collaborations with other artists. In the last MM compo the team aspect allowed for some neat possibilities, and I'd like to see more of that. Not a rule, per se, but a removal of a possible restriction, if it came up.
  10. It might be fresh. I can't promise I'd participate unless I get situated with another job before this starts, but I think it's a great idea. I'm basically up for anything that requires people to smash a bunch of themes together. I'm just not sure if the timing would work out that well for me, is all. We'll see.
  11. Wow, that was very subtle. I loved the transitions to the different themes, and how certain elements held over from transition to transition. Great piece, man.
  12. I really like where you took this one, personally. Seeing that you said you'd push this to the J's about half a month ago, I suppose there's not much I can say except good luck, man. I liked it a lot, for what it's worth.
  13. Don't have to use that art, but I find the chibi somewhat enduring, actually. I don't normally like chibi that much, but it fits, for some reason.
  14. It's kind of sad that I actually fixed virtually all the production issues with the track and unsuccessfully tried to ninja that version into the compo. Urgh, oh well - I'll post it in the WIP forums after this round of voting is over.
  15. It's simply poorly sequenced + poor sample/synth choice for emulating a guitar. Painful = hard to listen to, in this case.
  16. Everyone is reminding me that I have laundry to do. Shit, I completely forgot...
  17. Ack, sorry for the lack of crits in here... It's probably Ice Cap Envy. Let's see if I can help break up the non-responsive pattern, here. Mod Review: Alright, from what I gather the arrangement consists of the theme playing pretty close to verbatim, then there's some improvisation over the harmonies with the hollow sounding synth. When that second breakdown comes in you bring in a little Green Hill zone, which is pretty cool, actually, but there's really not enough variation or change to reach the level of interpretation required for OCR, as it stands. If you stick with this, my suggestion would be to break from the repetitive harmonies that the source provides from time to time, and possibly explore more of the possibilities of Green Hill Zone merging with the piece (that was a highlight of the track, for me). The solos feel like they randomly meander - they need at least a little direction if they're going to work. The instrument that plays the little solo-esque sections is pretty weak. It's just hard to hear it play what it has to play, there. That guitar would've been more fitting for that sort of job, or at least another instrument that is more poignant. Overall, the sample quality is incredibly dry and bland. They sound like presets of some sort that have nothing done to them to make them fill the space. While synth design and such would help a lot, some easier solutions are available as well - reverb and delay, for example, help make the instruments sound more 'full', when used in moderation (too much just makes a mess of things). Again, better samples could help, too - the guitar is particular is painful to listen to. While I promise this will not pass OCR's panel, hopefully some of the things I said will help you out, regardless. Good luck.
  18. I called mine 'Magnus Divinicus Chiptunicus', if that gives you any idea what it'll sound like. Yeah, like it was going to be a surprise to anyone, here.
  19. Just from what I've looked at on the forums here, it seems that this soundtrack is pretty popular. While I'm not familiar with it, I recommend you message people and see if you can perk their interest in this. If you want it to work out well, be proactive with it and go out recruiting actively. If you bug people you might get a response where you wouldn't get any otherwise. I don't have much else to offer you other than a few words of wisdom, so I wish you luck on the re-re-revival of this project.
  20. Composers used to do this sort of thing all the time. Look up virtually all of Bach's Chorals, for example, and you'll see that they are almost all based on an older work, of some sort (as in, one of the lines takes an older melody verbatim and adds his own stuff above and below it to make something new). I would still call that his piece, as well as yours your own. If it's just harmonies, then no, there's nothing to worry about, at all. There are only so many combinations that work harmonically, so to say that any one song 'owns' that harmonic pattern would be downright silly. Give this guy a listen and you'll see that people use some harmonic patterns . It would be asinine for anyone to sue you for using chords and harmonies that were similar/the exact same as another song. Do what you want with your stuff.
  21. MOD Review: It looks like your instrument usage is greatly improved from when I first heard it (I recall there being a problem with instruments getting overused, which isn't apparent as in this version), so nice work on that. It still sounds like it meanders a little bit, but I don't think you'll be nailed for it - it kind of fits the style of the track. The arrangement is also pretty well done - enough source and a nice sassy jazz twist to it, overall. I'm going to have to say the instrument that comes in at 0:32 sounds needlessly thin, like you cut the lower and upper range entirely. It doesn't sound prominent, as it stands, when it's supposed to carry the main theme. When it's in the background it works fine, but when it's carrying important lines give it some more higher and lower mids (either by tweeking setting that you already made or adding an EQ to the instrument), since it just sounds empty, right now. Other than the thin instrument that's distracting me, I think the mixing is pretty well done. I would try to thicken out the lead I mentioned before if you can before subbing it, but other than that I believe you have a pretty good shot at the panel with this. Good luck.
  22. Awwww shiat, you're STEALIN' MAH IDAEAS!! EDIT: Did anyone else feel like the act of putting in a shitload of sources at once makes the song sound like an original piece of music? That's what my track feels like, to me - an original that pays homage to Mega Man and Schala. I'm very interested in hearing what everyone else did with their tracks.
  23. Mine up in a sec - uploading it noooowwwww... PH is tied with me, on sources - Dust, Blizzard, Magnet, Wily 3-1, Wily 3 boss and Schala's theme (I told y'all I'd put it in there).
  24. I remixed Schala's theme. Also, I'm subbing as soon as I fix the mixing up a bit.
  25. That's me - always thinkin' up ideas and shit to put into my mix and not putting them down until that last minute...
